Chapter 218 There's a Fight Here
Josephine took the elevator to the meeting spot, met her partner, and then headed straight back to her room.
With Rex and Stuart around, she decided to stay in her room.
She planned to leave after signing the contract.
While in her room, she got a call from Laura.
Laura said, "Watch out, Rex is after you too."
Josephine replied, "I know. I'm staying in and leaving after I sign the contract."
Laura sighed. "You're too amazing, Josephine. Rex may not have much else, but he has good taste."
Josephine chuckled. "If I were that amazing, I wouldn't be divorced."
"Come on, you divorced Stuart because you didn't want him. He's still chasing you, isn't he? That proves you're special. Rich people are canny!"
"I get it. But with Rex's status, he could find a younger girl. Plenty of single women like him."
Laura said, "He's close with Steven. I knew of him before, but I've learned more recently."
If it weren't for Josephine, Laura wouldn't have looked into Rex.
If Rex were a good guy, his interest in Josephine might be a good thing.
But he had a high school daughter, which was a big issue.
Teenage girls were sensitive and hard to deal with.
Plus, Laura heard his daughter was spoiled.
Since Rex's wife passed, he always had women around.
How could a man like that be good enough for Josephine?
"He's not good enough for you," Laura said. "That estate is his, so be careful. I'll come over this afternoon."
Josephine laughed. "No need. I'll sign the contract this afternoon and head back if there's nothing else."
Laura said, "Alright, take care."
After hanging up, Josephine thought she might as well enjoy the hot springs while staying in her room.
She wanted to take a quick shower but found the showerhead wasn't working.
After trying a few times, she called the front desk.
They said they'd send someone to check it out.
Two minutes later, the doorbell rang.
Josephine opened the door to find Rex in work clothes with a toolbox.
"Is the showerhead broken?" he asked.
Josephine held the door, not letting him in. "Mr. Armstrong, what's this about?"
She looked annoyed, with a hint of anger in her voice.
Rex dropped his teasing look and said seriously, "I sometimes work part-time as a repairman."
"No need," Josephine said. "I'll just change rooms."
She started to close the door.
Rex, looking helpless, held the door open. "Josephine."
Josephine said coldly, "We're not that close, Mr. Armstrong. Don't call me that."
"Alright, Dr. Kalmien," Rex said. "You know what I mean. We're not young, and I don't like hiding my feelings. At my age, saying I like someone is embarrassing, but I do admire you. Can you give me a chance?"
Rex had a certain charm, even in his worn-out denim work clothes. He didn't look down and out; he had a rugged appeal.
Josephine said, "Mr. Armstrong, you're honest, so I'll be straight too. I have no feelings for you. Let's keep it professional."
Rex asked, "Dr. Kalmien, you really won't give me a chance?"
Josephine replied, "No."
Rex laughed in frustration. She was the first woman to talk to him like that.
"Alright then," Rex said, raising his toolbox. "Can we at least be friends? Or let me fix the showerhead?"
"Not interested," Josephine said firmly. "I've made myself clear. Please leave, Mr. Armstrong."
Rex had never been humiliated like this. As a child, people flattered him because of his family's power. As an adult, he earned his own respect. Today, Josephine had humiliated him.
He smiled and nodded. "Alright, Josephine, you really are different. I didn't misjudge you."
Josephine slammed the door shut with all her strength. Rex laughed heartily outside.
At his age, with power and status, life often felt dull. Josephine had sparked his competitive spirit. So, there was no rush.
Josephine packed her things and changed rooms. She stayed in, enjoyed the hot springs, did a face mask, video chatted with her son, Jeffery Kalmien, and was about to nap when her phone rang.
She answered and heard Laura shouting, "Josephine! Come quickly! Stuart and Rex are fighting!"
Josephine was stunned. She grabbed her phone and ran out after putting on some clothes.
She saw a crowd not far away. The room's soundproofing was so good she hadn't heard a thing. Before she got close, she heard the sounds of fighting.
She ran over and saw Stuart and Rex fighting.
"Stop it!" Josephine shouted.
Stuart paused, and Rex took the chance to punch him in the face. Stuart, still looking at Josephine, kicked accurately.
They didn't like each other and were now fighting over the same woman, going all out.
After kicking, Stuart turned to Josephine. "Are you okay?"
Josephine shook off his hand. "You're the one fighting; why are you asking if I'm okay?"
Stuart said, "Was he trying to get into your room? Despicable and shameless, shouldn't such a person be beaten?"
Rex cursed, "Stuart, don't project your filthy thoughts onto me!"
"What kind of gentleman are you?" Stuart retorted. "Hypocrite!"
Seeing they were about to fight again, Josephine took out her phone. "There are people fighting here, and the address is..."
Rex quickly glanced at Stuart. Stuart snatched Josephine's phone and put it to his ear. "Sorry, just kidding."
They didn't expect her to call the police. If the police came and they both ended up at the station, people would laugh at them!
Anything else could be dealt with, but losing face was something they couldn't afford!
"Not fighting anymore?" Josephine smiled. "Good, saving public resources."
She turned and walked away. Back in her room, it wasn't long before the doorbell rang again.
