Chapter 416 Why Are You So Nervous?
It was soon the day for Stuart to visit The Clarence Family.
The night before, Stuart sent a video request.
Josephine answered and saw Stuart place his phone somewhere, then step back and ask, "Josephine, can you help me decide which outfit looks better?"
Josephine then realized he was in his walk-in closet.
From their last visit, Josephine knew Stuart had a massive walk-in closet. But his clothes only took up a small portion of it. Now, he was standing next to his clothes.
"Which one?" Josephine looked and said, "They all look pretty similar to me."
His clothes were mostly business suits, custom-made, with slight variations in style and mostly in black or gray.
"Which one do you like best?" Stuart asked. "Patterned or plain? Is black too old-fashioned? How about this one? Is it too young?"
Josephine laughed and asked, "Are you nervous?"
Stuart admitted, "Yes, thinking about meeting your mom makes me a bit scared."
"What are you afraid of? My mom is really nice." To boost his confidence, Josephine said, "It was my mom's idea to invite you over this time."
Stuart was surprised. "Really?"
"Really. My mom has changed her opinion of you a bit, so you don't need to be nervous."
"That's great." Stuart sighed in relief. "But to make a good impression, I still need to be careful. How about this one?"
Seeing him so conflicted, Josephine finally said, "The third one from the left at the back looks good."
"You like this one?" Stuart took it down. "Should I try it on for you?"
"No need to try it on, it will definitely look good."
With Stuart's physique—broad shoulders, narrow waist, V-shaped torso, perfect proportions—what wouldn't look good on him? But Stuart started taking off his loungewear right in front of the camera.
Josephine was caught off guard and saw his well-defined muscles. She stared at him for a few seconds, then felt a bit shy.
She lowered her eyes and adjusted her hair. When she looked up again, Stuart was already buttoning his shirt. Even the way he buttoned his shirt was incredibly sexy.
Josephine thought, the word "handsome" was tailor-made for Stuart at this moment.
Stuart finished dressing and looked at the camera, "How is it?"
Josephine was just glad he didn't change his pants. Only his upper body was visible in the camera.
"Very good," she sincerely praised. "Great!"
"Okay, then this is the one." Stuart sat down and asked, "What does your mom usually like?"
Josephine said, "Don't prepare too many gifts, just some tea will do."
"I've already prepared tea and some embroidery works."
"That's enough."
"It's not enough," Stuart said. "For the first visit, it has to be grand."
"The tea and embroidery works you bought aren't cheap, right? That's already grand enough."
Josephine remembered when she and Stuart got married, the first time Stuart visited the Kalmien Family, he also brought a lot of things. But back then, it was obvious that his assistant had helped him buy those things. They were all health supplements, expensive but somewhat perfunctory.
"Josephine?"
Josephine snapped back to reality and smiled, "It's really enough. If you bring too much, my mom will be unhappy. She'll think you're here to take me away."
"I wish I could," Stuart sighed. "Alright, I'll just prepare a few more things casually."
Josephine didn't expect that Stuart's "casual" preparation would almost fill up her living room.
The embroidery work looked very expensive. Nicole glanced at it and quickly looked away. But from what Josephine knew about her, she was very satisfied.
Stuart was sitting on the sofa, tense, with his hands on his knees, not daring to move.
Josephine thought of the time when Stuart met Todd. Back then, it was Todd who seemed nervous. And Stuart was all cold and aloof, exuding a domineering aura. Compared to now, he was like a completely different person. Josephine couldn't help but smile.
Nicole was asking Stuart about his family, and when she heard Josephine laugh, everyone looked over.
It wasn't just Nicole and Stuart who looked, but also Ulysses and Jeffrey, who were sitting nearby.
"What are you laughing at?" Nicole asked.
Josephine felt a bit uneasy and quickly said, "Nothing, I just thought about the delicious food we'll have for lunch and got a bit happy."
Nicole thought Josephine was great in every way, except she was a bit unambitious. Was it really necessary to be so happy just because Stuart was visiting?
Stuart also smiled at her. The affection in their eyes was obvious to anyone who wasn't blind.
Ulysses nudged Jeffery and said, "See how your dad is acting? You'll be like this in the future."
Jeffery whispered, "You should worry about yourself first, you're much older than me."
Ulysses said, "Don't worry, I'll definitely be more confident in the future."
Jeffery slightly curled his lips, "Remember what you said today."
Nicole chatted with Stuart for a while and was quite satisfied with him. If it weren't for his previous divorce with Josephine, Nicole would think Stuart was a man worth entrusting.
But he had made mistakes before, so now he had to be cautious.
Nicole asked someone to put away the gifts and went to arrange where to place them.
Once Nicole left the living room, Stuart visibly relaxed.
Josephine handed him some water, "It's okay now."
Stuart looked at her pitifully, "I've never been this nervous before." He leaned in and whispered, "My shirt is soaked."
Josephine wanted to laugh, "Is it really that bad? Why don't you go back and change?"
"No way," Stuart said. "Nicole just invited me to stay for dinner."
"Isn't it uncomfortable to wear wet clothes?"
"What's a little discomfort?" Stuart said. "It's fine, I definitely want to stay for dinner."
Stuart had a look of "you can't make me leave." Josephine had no choice but to let him be.
Just before dinner, Gerald came back. In the past, Stuart would dare to confront him. Now, he could only lower his head.
He took the initiative to shake hands, "Gerald, long time no see."
Gerald, for Josephine's sake, smiled and shook his hand. "Long time no see."
Gerald knew Stuart was coming today and came back specifically for dinner. As Josephine's brother, he had to support her in her important life decisions.
However, Gerald's next words were, "I heard you got into a fight at a party?"
