Chapter 312 How Far Have You Two Gotten?
"Oh man, Jeffery is such a looker."
"Check out that nose. And that cute little mouth!"
"And those eyes! They look like freaking gems!"
"And he's so well-behaved! So obedient!"
"What a good kid!"
Josephine and Stuart stood at the foot of the bed, watching as Andrew came in and grabbed Jeffery's hand, not letting go.
It was the first time Josephine saw Andrew so happy and chatty, clearly showing his fondness for Jeffery, which explained why he kept urging them to have children.
Halfway through, the doctor called Josephine over to sign some papers. Andrew shot Stuart a disdainful look. "You go out, I want to talk to Jeffery alone."
Stuart had no choice but to leave. He waited at the door, and soon enough, Josephine came back.
"Grandpa wants to talk to Jeffery alone, should we wait a bit?"
Josephine nodded, "Grandpa really seems to like Jeffery."
"He loves kids," Stuart said, looking at her. "He was always on our case about having children."
Josephine laughed, "Too bad you didn't want kids with me back then."
Stuart gave a wry smile, "Josephine, stop teasing me. You know I regret it deeply."
"What do you regret?" Josephine asked, playing along.
Stuart sighed, "I regret not having more kids with you, like three, four, five, so you couldn't leave."
Josephine's cheeks tinged with pink as she looked away. "You think I'm crazy, wanting so many kids."
"I love children. Let's have a few more."
Josephine glared at him, "If you love kids so much, go have them with someone else."
"I don't want to have kids with anyone else," Stuart looked deeply into her eyes, "Josephine, I only want to have them with you."
Josephine was flooded with emotions. She nervously tucked her hair behind her ear, trying to conceal her unease. Suddenly, Stuart reached for her hand.
"Josephine, will you forgive me?" Stuart looked down at her, "I know I messed up a lot in the past. I'll make it right. You can get back at me, boss me around, whatever you need."
Josephine withdrew her hand. "Why would I want to boss you around?"
"But I made so many mistakes back then, I can't forgive myself whenever I think about it."
"Don't talk about that," Josephine said, "Let the past be the past."
"Then we..." Before he could finish, his phone rang. He glanced at it and immediately looked at Josephine, "It's Jair."
Josephine's eyes widened, "Answer it quickly!"
Stuart hurriedly answered.
Jair spoke on the other end, "Stuart, you contacted me earlier?"
"Yeah," Stuart put it on speaker, "How are things over there? Why haven't we heard from you since you left?"
"There was a bit of an accident, but it's fine now," Jair said, "The job is done, and now it's my personal vacation time."
Stuart looked at Josephine, knowing what she was worried about.
He quickly asked, "Have you seen Claudia?"
"Not yet," Jair replied.
"Then hurry up," Stuart was anxious, "If you don't go soon, she'll be back."
"I might be a bit, inconvenient," Jair sighed, "Forget it, I'll talk about it when I get back."
"What's wrong with you?" Stuart asked, "Just tell me!"
Jair, unaware that Josephine was nearby, said, "I got a bit injured."
Stuart immediately became worried, "You're injured? Is it serious? Where are you hurt?"
"Just a minor thing," Jair chuckled. "No need to fret, just a bit tricky to get around."
"That's still a minor injury?" Stuart knew Jair's mission might be confidential, so he covered the phone and said to Josephine, "I'll go take this call."
Josephine understood and nodded.
Stuart walked to the stairwell and said, "What's going on? Where are you hurt?"
Hearing his different tone, Jair asked, "Was someone with you just now?"
"Josephine was with me."
"How are things between you two? Any progress?"
Talking about this, Stuart showed a silly smile, "Yeah."
"Share the details with me."
"Let me tell you, Josephine, she..."
"What about her?"
"She smiled at me."
Jair almost choked on his water. "That's it?"
"You don't get it," Stuart said seriously, "She used to smile, but it was always polite. This time, it felt different."
"I think you still have a long way to go. Josephine just smiled at you, when are you two getting back together?"
"I hurt her too deeply before. Asking for her forgiveness will definitely be a long process, and I'm prepared for that. Besides, I have some good news to tell you later."
"What good news?"
"I can't spill the beans just yet." Stuart's grin was infectious. "But let's shift the focus. What's your game plan? You still haven't visited Claudia, and Josephine is getting anxious."
"Do you think I'm not anxious?" Jair sounded frustrated, "I got stabbed during the mission, and now I'm lying in the hospital."
Stuart frowned. "Is it serious? Do you need me to come over?"
"It's nothing, just a minor injury, didn't hit any organs, just needed a dozen stitches. It's just a bit inconvenient to move."
"Is someone taking care of you?"
"Yeah. It's an older lady, quite humorous."
Stuart said, "How about I send someone to bring you back?"
"No," Jair said, "I plan to rest for a couple of days and then go see Claudia, give her a surprise."
"Take good care of yourself. You can pursue Claudia when you get back. Don't let the surprise turn into a shock."
"You've made progress, so I'm anxious too."
Josephine waited outside the hospital room for five or six minutes before Stuart returned.
He said, "Now I know, he didn't intentionally avoid seeing Claudia, he got injured."
"Okay." Josephine asked, "Did you find out if it's serious?"
"It's fine. Don't worry about him, he'll be better in a couple of days."
"But he's alone in a foreign country and injured."
Stuart looked at her with a face full of grievance.
Seeing him like this, Josephine couldn't help but ask, "What's with that look?"
"You're so concerned about him," Stuart said dejectedly, "I want you to care about me too."
Josephine couldn't help but laugh, "Jair is injured. I meant to tell Claudia and see if she has time to visit him."
Stuart quickly said, "Then I'll ask him which hospital he's in."
As they were talking, a nurse came over to change the medication, and the three of them went into the hospital room together.
After changing the IV, the nurse left, and Andrew was still holding Jeffery's hand, reluctant to let go.
Given Jeffery's current fragile state, Andrew had to depart despite his reluctance.
Before leaving, Andrew slipped a gift under Jeffery's pillow.
Josephine saw it and quickly said, "Grandpa, this isn't right."
"What's wrong with it?" Andrew said sternly, "It's Starlight Festival, can't I give Jeffery a gift?"
Josephine wanted to say more, but Stuart tugged at her, so she said, "Then Jeffery, thank your great-grandfather."
Jeffery obediently said, "Thank you, great-grandfather."
Andrew immediately smiled, "When Jeffery gets better, come see me, okay?"
"Okay."
Josephine escorted Andrew out, and at the door of the hospital room, Andrew told her to go back. "Go take care of Jeffery, let Stuart come down with me."
Josephine had to go back, and Stuart helped Andrew walk, then got into the elevator. Andrew met his gaze and snorted disdainfully.
Stuart definitely had to tell Andrew the fact. When Andrew arrived, Stuart went down to meet him and had already been scolded by him.
Although they hadn't done a paternity test, since Josephine wanted to change Jeffery's eye color, it meant there was definitely a problem.
Stuart got Andrew into the car, and Andrew finally scolded him without reservation. "Are you blind? If you don't need your eyes, donate them to someone who does! I can tell just by looking that Jeffery is a child of the Haustia Family, how can you be so stupid?"
Stuart felt deeply offended. "How did you figure that out?"
