Chapter 378 What Good Does It Do to Betray Me?
Robin spilled the beans on the big secret he'd been keeping, feeling relieved despite receiving no rescue. He saw Angela and cracked a smile.
Angela was about to lose it. "You can still smile? Did you spill the beans about that thing?"
"Which thing?" Robin shot back. "You've done so many shady things, how am I supposed to know which one you're talking about?"
"Robin!"
Seeing Angela's frustration, Robin said, "What did I tell you before? I told you to find a way to turn things around. And what did you do? You tried to snatch that project and then cut ties with Stuart? You really thought that would work?"
Angela snapped, "You're an idiot! If I don't make more money, how can I get you out? Only money in your own hands is real; everything else is just an illusion!"
"Yeah, everything's an illusion, so your promises are too, right? So why should I believe you?"
Angela was fuming. "So you betrayed me? What good does it do you to betray me? Don't forget, it was you who told me to pretend to be Stuart's savior!"
"Was it me? Do you think anyone would believe that? They'd just think you were greedy enough to steal someone else's credit. Angela, you're pathetic. Even if you were his savior, he wouldn't give you a second glance!"
"Robin, how are you any better? Did Josephine give you a second glance? She hates and despises you the most!"
"You're the one who's hated and despised!" Robin couldn't take it anymore. "Stuart hates you too!"
Angela took a deep breath. "Fine, let's stop attacking each other. Who did you tell?"
Robin said, "I told Laura."
Angela was silent, then suddenly furious! "Why did you tell her?"
Robin said, "Because she already knew the truth. Whether I told her or not didn't matter much."
Angela was shocked. "How did she know?"
"How would I know?" Robin said. "I'm already in this mess. Offending them further won't do me any good."
"How could this happen?"
Seeing Angela in despair, Robin said, "It's come to this. Getting angry won't help. You might as well think about how to get Josephine's forgiveness."
Angela shook her head, full of resentment. "Wishful thinking! I will never apologize to her in my life!"
"But the fact is, you did wrong. You took Josephine's identity."
"No!" Angela couldn't accept this fact. Something she had believed for over a decade had long become indistinguishable from the truth to her.
The more lies she told, the more she started to believe them herself.
Robin said, "The reason you came to me is because Stuart did something to you, right? I dare say, if you don't seek Josephine's forgiveness, Stuart's retaliation will be something you don't want to see."
"No way!" Angela shook her head, looking disheveled. "He wouldn't."
Robin looked at her pitifully. "Why deceive yourself? Stuart never had any real feelings for you. He only helped you because he thought you saved his life. Now that he knows you took credit for someone else's actions, how do you think he'll react?"
Angela's tears fell uncontrollably. "This is all your fault!"
"This is your own doing," Robin said. "Alright, there's no use in you coming to me. Just leave; I don't want to see you either!"
Angela left feeling totally crushed. Once outside, she looked up at the sky, completely lost. Wait! If she couldn't get to Josephine, maybe she could try Todd and his wife!
She couldn't do much with Josephine, but Todd was greedy. Throw him some benefits, and he'd definitely vouch for her!
But Angela had no clue that an even bigger blow was coming her way.
Todd agreed to meet her without knowing Angela's lies had been exposed. Since Stuart treated her well, he didn't dare to offend Angela.
Todd was unaware of Stuart's actions against the Lopez Family. Compared to The Lopez Family, the Kalmien Family's status was even lower, so they were out of the loop.
Todd was quite flattered by her request. "I can put in a good word with Josephine. But why are you and Stuart having such a big fight? I heard you saved his life."
Angela wasn't about to spill the truth, so she just asked Todd to help smooth things over with Josephine.
"There are some misunderstandings, so I'm asking for your help," Angela said.
Todd loved being flattered, especially by someone who was once considered Stuart's savior. He felt even more honored.
He agreed to help, and after Angela left, he called Josephine.
No answer. After two calls, Todd got impatient.
He called Gerald directly. "Gerald, I can't reach Josephine. Even though she's now your biological sister, she can't just ignore my calls, right?"
Gerald hadn't had the chance to deal with him yet. Hearing this, he laughed, "Josephine has been very busy these days. What do you need her for, Todd?"
For someone as important as Gerald to speak so kindly, Todd felt very pleased. "It's just a small matter, a little conflict between girls. Gerald, you should talk to Josephine. Now that she's part of The Clarence Family, she can't be so unruly."
Gerald laughed and chatted with him for a bit before hanging up. He thought the Kalmien Family should take a break.
Although Gerald wasn't the company president, his power was much greater.
Soon, Todd found himself too preoccupied with his company's dire situation to address Angela's issues.
When Angela called again, Todd didn't have time to answer.
Angela was frantic. She witnessed The Lopez Family's assets halving in a day, risking bankruptcy in under three days. With no alternatives, she had to seek out Josephine herself.
Josephine had just finished her work and was thinking of visiting Jeffery. As she walked out, someone called her. "Josephine!" She saw Angela.
To be honest, Josephine now felt almost nothing towards Angela. She didn't want to waste any extra emotions on someone like Angela.
Hating Angela would only mess with her own mood. Josephine just thought Angela looked pitiful and pathetic.
Once, she thought she was the pathetic one. But now it seemed, as long as a woman had self-respect, self-love, and self-reliance, she could escape a tragic fate. Clearly, Angela still didn't get it.
Josephine looked at her. "You're looking for me? What's up?"
