Chapter 236 What If He Insists on a Paternity Test?
Even if Robin kicked the bucket, Josephine wouldn't bat an eye.
She just said, "Really?"
Laura nodded. "Yep! I heard his company's a mess! Steven told me Robin's probably toast, and the Bailey Family won't let him do anything anymore."
Josephine just went, "Oh."
Laura kept going, "Why aren't you reacting? This has to be Stuart's doing. They were at each other's throats, serves them right! But Robin wasn't that tough; Stuart took him down easy."
Josephine shrugged, "Whether he's dead or alive doesn't matter to me. But, will Steven be affected?"
Laura scoffed, "Whether he is or not, it's none of my business!"
"Laura," Josephine sighed, "Even if Steven messed up before, you've been giving him a hard time for years. Aren't you over it yet?"
"Can you forgive Stuart?"
Josephine shook her head. "Their mistakes are different. No matter what, Steven really loves you and has always treated you well."
"Alright, don't worry about me. I won't let myself be wronged. But you, Stuart took care of Robin for you, don't get all sentimental."
Josephine smiled. "How is it for me? That's their business, nothing to do with me."
Laura asked, "Did you tell them about Jeffery?"
"Yeah, and Jeffery's become a key player against them," Josephine said, "I mentioned it yesterday morning, and no one's bothered me since. It's been so peaceful."
"Don't get too comfy. Make sure Jeffery's birthday and everything are set up right, so Stuart doesn't get suspicious."
"Everything's set," Josephine said, "Don't worry, he won't suspect a thing."
"Why?" Laura asked, "What if he insists on a paternity test?"
Josephine replied, "He won't."
Laura, curious, asked, "What exactly did you do?"
Josephine responded, "You'll know when Jeffery and Roy come back."
Laura inquired, "You're saying Jeffery is Roy's kid? That doesn't seem right."
Josephine made a shushing gesture.
Laura's curiosity only grew.
But since Josephine wouldn't spill, she had to wait eagerly for Jeffery to show up.
Just as Josephine hung up, her phone rang again.
She looked at it and saw it was Andrew calling.
"Grandpa," she answered quickly, "Have you eaten?"
Andrew laughed. "Yes. Josephine, do you have time? Come over to my place."
"Is there something you need?" Josephine glanced at the documents in her hand. "If it's not urgent, I might need another two hours to finish up."
"No rush! Come over when you're done!"
After hanging up, Josephine focused on her work. By the time she finished, more than two hours had passed.
She gave some instructions to her staff and left the research institute.
Once in the car, Otis asked where she was headed, and she gave him the address.
"In a while, Jeffery will be back," Josephine said, "Once I settle down, I won't need to trouble you anymore."
"Where else would you find such a dedicated driver and bodyguard like me?" Otis said, "Besides, doesn't Jeffery need to go to school? Do you have time to pick him up?"
Josephine said, "You have your own things to do."
"Not at the moment," Otis said. "I've made enough money, now I just want to rest."
Josephine replied, "Then find a place to have fun. Following me around all day isn't exactly resting."
"Everyone has their own way of relaxing," Otis said, "I think these days are pretty good. Just cut me some slack, will you?"
Josephine didn't say anything more.
Otis wasn't the type to force himself. If one day he wanted to leave, no one could stop him.
When they pulled up to the Haustia Manor, Otis asked, "Want me to go in with you?"
Josephine shook her head, "No need, I'm just visiting an elder."
She grabbed the fruits and snacks she bought on the way and headed inside.
But then, she saw someone she never wanted to see.
It was Robin.
She had seen him just a few days ago. Even though she had completely ignored him, seeing him today still caught her off guard.
Robin looked rough—unshaven, haggard, with dark circles and bloodshot eyes, like he had aged ten years overnight.
Josephine had always looked down on Robin, but he used to be a handsome guy.
Today, he looked like a wreck.
"Josephine." Andrew waved her over. "Come here, I need to talk to you."
"Grandpa." Josephine put down the stuff and sat next to Andrew. "What's up?"
Robin, standing nearby, stared at Josephine with obsessive and cold eyes.
He had always hoped his feelings for Josephine would stay hidden.
When the truth came out, he hadn't expected Stuart to push him to such a miserable state!
If he had succeeded in his career, the Bailey Family would have valued him.
But if he brought disaster to the Bailey Family, they would undoubtedly push him out to bear Stuart's wrath.
Now, the Bailey Family still held onto a sliver of hope, so they bailed him out and gave him one last chance.
He came to Andrew, knelt, repented, and tearfully begged for Andrew's forgiveness.
The Haustia Family and the Bailey Family had a long-standing relationship, and Andrew had been close to Robin's grandparents.
Robin only mentioned that he had a bad relationship with Josephine before. But now Stuart, in an effort to win Josephine back, had broken ties with him.
Andrew sighed and said, "I've heard about your situation. Josephine, Stuart and Robin both made mistakes before. Today, I'm in charge here, and I want Robin to apologize to you. Let's put the past behind us, okay?"
Robin quickly said, "Yes, I was wrong before. I'm sorry. I won't make the same mistakes again. I hope you can forgive me."
Josephine looked at Andrew. "Grandpa, did you call me back just for this?"
Andrew said, "Yes, he is sincerely remorseful. Can you forgive him this once and see how he behaves in the future?"
Josephine said, "Grandpa, if I were upset or angry, I would want him to admit his mistakes. But to me, he's just a stranger. Who cares if a stranger is right or wrong?"
Andrew glanced at Robin. "How did your relationship become so strained?"
Josephine stood up. "Grandpa, if there's nothing else, I'll be leaving."
"Josephine!" Seeing her about to leave, Robin panicked. "Yes, I did some things wrong, but your relationship with Stuart had problems from the start. Your divorce couldn't have been because of me, right?"
Josephine shook her head. "Not because of you."
Robin retorted, "Then why did Stuart go crazy and retaliate against me?"
"Why?" Stuart's voice suddenly rang out, "You still have the nerve to ask why?"
Everyone turned to the door.
Stuart, exuding an icy aura, walked in.
