Chapter 438 I'm Really Sorry

Steven said, "I only found out later that thyroid cancer is the least severe type of cancer and can even be cured. Mine was even milder. I had surgery, get regular check-ups, and now there's no difference between me and a normal person."

Stuart remained silent for a moment before saying, "You really did harm yourself. So, you went to find her again?"

Steven smiled, "What else could I do? Laura is such a wonderful woman; how could I let her go?"

"No wonder Laura still hasn't forgiven you," Stuart said. "She must have been so heartbroken back then."

As they were talking, Josephine and Laura returned.

Josephine sat down and asked, "What are you guys talking about?"

Steven quickly said, "Business matters."

He didn't dare bring up old issues, or else he'd have to spend the night comforting Laura again.

Stuart also said, "Yeah. What about you two? How did your discussion go?"

Josephine smiled and said, "We've decided to have a triple wedding!"

Steven was overjoyed, "Really?"

Laura said, "If you have any objections, we won't do it!"

"How could I have any objections?" Steven laughed heartily. "Stuart, tell Jair that I'll cover all the costs for this wedding!"

Stuart said, "No way! It's not just your wedding; it's better to split the costs evenly."

Laura said, "We haven't even finalized it yet, and you're already discussing costs? Have you proposed? Bought the rings? Or are you planning to get married without any of that?"

Steven laughed, "Of course not. Don't worry, we'll prepare everything properly."

Stuart had created a group chat earlier, adding Steven and Jair to it.

Jair asked: [What's going on?]

Stuart replied: [You're so lucky. We're planning to get married alongside you.]

Steven also posted in the group: [That's right! The three couples will get married together!]

Jair sent a string of exclamation marks.

Then he asked: [Why are you guys stealing my thunder? Getting married with me? Can't you have your own weddings?]

Stuart: [You're not happy about it? If not, ask Claudia; she'll definitely be up for it!]

Jair: [But I don't want to get married with you guys!]

Steven: [Why not?]

Jair: [Because then I'll wonder if Claudia only agreed to my proposal because she wanted to get married with her friends.]

Stuart: [...]

Steven: [...]

Stuart: [Don't worry, no woman would be foolish enough to gamble her lifelong happiness just to get married with her friends.]

Steven: [She must have agreed to your proposal because she loves you! Hang in there!]

Jair: [So have you guys figured out how to propose yet?]

Stuart and Steven both fell silent. They had been so excited about the wedding that they had forgotten about the proposals.

Stuart: [Each of us will propose individually, but we'll coordinate the wedding to be held together.]

Jair replied: [That works. Has Josephine come up with any good ideas for me?]

Stuart replied: [We'll discuss it in detail later.]

The meeting had at least set some things in motion, and they had given Jair plenty of suggestions for his proposal. Steven and Stuart also asked a lot about their partners' preferences. They were all prepared for the proposals.

On the way back, Steven let Laura lie on his lap and massaged her head. "You know you can't drink, but you insisted. Feeling uncomfortable now?"

Laura said, "I was happy today. It's rare for Josephine to have a couple of drinks with me."

Steven asked her, "Are you drunk?"

Laura thought for a moment and said, "Just a little."

"Being a little drunk is the best state," Steven said. "I want to drink too."

"Go ahead and try." Laura's voice was soft.

Steven immediately said, "I'm just saying."

The driver took them home, and Steven carried Laura inside.

The villa's decor was all to Laura's taste. The villa was a bit old now; Steven had bought it in their first year together. He had intended it to be their marital home.

But who knew, after all these years, he still hadn't married Laura.

However, he had prepared a new villa, already decorated, to be their marital home.

Since Stuart and Jair were also getting married, it seemed his wedding with Laura was just around the corner.

Taking advantage of Laura's tipsiness, he laid her on the bed and asked, "Laura, you weren't lying about the triple wedding, were you?"

Laura smiled, "Even if I lied to you, I wouldn't lie to Josephine and the others."

"So, you really want to marry me, right?"

Laura said, "From the way you're talking, it sounds like you don't want to marry me?"

"Don't you know if I want to marry you or not?" Steven took her hand and placed it on his chest. "I want to marry you so badly it's driving me crazy."

Laura laughed, hooked her arms around his neck, and kissed his cheek. "I just want to see you go crazy for me. Steven, I want you to never leave me for the rest of your life."

"I already can't leave you." Steven's large hand slid down, gently caressing her delicate skin from her waist. "Laura, I love you."

At the same time, Josephine and Stuart were also discussing Laura.

Stuart asked her, "Do you know about Laura and Steven's past?"

"What about it?"

"Steven hired someone to act and deliberately made Laura misunderstand and break up with him."

Josephine was shocked, "How do you know that?"

Only a few people knew about this. Steven's career was at a critical point back then, and his illness was kept secret. Even the later treatment was known to very few people. So how did Stuart know?

"Steven told me tonight," Stuart said. "I was wondering why Laura treats him the way she does, and Steven just lets her."

"That's not entirely it," Josephine said. "They were sweet from the beginning. Laura has always been like this, and Steven has always been very accommodating to her."

"If I really, really liked someone, I would accommodate her too." Stuart hugged her. "So, Josephine, you can do whatever you want, and I'll accept it."

"Really?"

Stuart said, "Of course, really!"

"Then there's something I need to discuss with you."

"What is it?"

"The project we were working on has made new progress. I need to go abroad to work with my colleagues. It might take a few months."

Stuart was stunned. He had been dreaming about how to propose, when to hold the wedding, what kind of ring to get, and how big the bouquet should be. And then Josephine said she had to leave.

Stuart took a deep breath and asked, "When are you leaving?"

Josephine said, "I have a few things to follow up on here. Once they're handled, I'll probably leave in a week."

Stuart nodded.

Josephine said, "I'm sorry. My colleague just called me about this today."

"Why are you apologizing?" Stuart hugged her with a smile. "Wherever you go, I'll go."
