Chapter 496 Give Him a Surprise
"Mom, does she fall asleep again?" asleep again?" Stuart called out to Nicole and asked her softly.
Nicole nodded and also spoke softly, "Yes, she did. Have you eaten?"
Stuart had originally planned to come back and eat with Josephine, but since Josephine went to the Clarence Mansion, he ate at the office.
He gently sat down on the sofa next to Josephine. "Mom, I've already eaten."
"Not going back this afternoon?"
"No," Stuart said, "I came back to take a nap with her. She seems to be very sleepy these days."
"Always sleepy?" Nicole glanced at Josephine, "Any other discomfort?"
Stuart was puzzled, "Discomfort? No."
There were some things Nicole found hard to ask, after all, Stuart was her son-in-law.
She said, "It's not comfortable to sleep here. Wake her up, and you two go rest in the bedroom."
"Okay."
Nicole, not wanting to make him uncomfortable, got up and went back to her room.
The living room was left with just the couple.
Seeing Josephine sleeping so soundly, Stuart was reluctant to wake her.
He thought for a moment and then bent down to pick her up.
Josephine woke up groggily, smelled the familiar scent, opened her eyes, and then closed them again, snuggling into his arms, "You're back."
"Yes," Stuart walked steadily, "Go back to sleep."
Josephine, still drowsy, fell back asleep.
When she woke up, she found herself in the bedroom, alone.
She left the room and went downstairs, seeing Stuart chatting with Nicole.
She didn't know what Stuart said, but Nicole was laughing happily.
Josephine felt a warm feeling in her heart.
Hearing footsteps, they both looked up.
Stuart stood up, "You're awake? What would you like to drink?"
"Just some warm water," Josephine said as she sat down next to Nicole, leaning on her shoulder like she had no bones.
Stuart brought her a glass of water, and she drank half of it.
Nicole glanced at Stuart and said, "Stuart, don't you have work to do? Why don't you go ahead and get busy?"
Stuart said, "Okay, I need to reply to an email."
He went to the study.
Nicole looked at Josephine, "Still sleepy?"
Josephine's voice was soft, "I feel like I can't get enough sleep these days."
Nicole asked, "Are you two using contraception?"
Josephine was stunned for a moment, then realized what Nicole was worried about.
She straightened up, thought for a moment, and shook her head, "I don't think I'm pregnant."
Nicole said, "If you're not using contraception, then it's possible you're pregnant. Any other unusual symptoms?"
"No, I'm just sleepy. Everything else is normal, so I didn't think much of it."
"Look at you," Nicole tapped her forehead, "You're a doctor, and you don't know this? Don't you know if your period has come?"
"I usually have a few days' delay, my cycle is generally thirty-five days, and it hasn't come yet."
"Then you should take a test," Nicole said, "Let Stuart buy a pregnancy test."
"No need," Josephine said, "I'll buy it myself."
"Why?"
"He's quite looking forward to it. If we buy it and it's not positive, he'll be disappointed. I'll buy it secretly, and if I'm pregnant, I'll surprise him."
Nicole laughed, "Okay, I'll go with you. We can take a walk."
The pharmacy wasn't far from home, so they treated it as a walk.
Josephine linked arms with her, thinking about her unusual symptoms these past few days, "I've really been sleepy these days, can't wake up in the morning."
"What about when you were pregnant with Jeffery?"
"It was fine then," Josephine said, "Jeffery was very well-behaved, I didn't have any symptoms."
"It would be great if you're really pregnant this time," Nicole said with concern, "This time, we're all here to take care of you."
"Mom, I didn't suffer back then either," Josephine said, "I had a lot of neighbors taking care of me and helping me."
"When we get a chance, I'll go back with you to visit them."
"Okay."
They soon arrived at the pharmacy, and Josephine bought a few more tests, just in case it wasn't positive this time, she could use them later.
When they got back, Stuart had already come out of the study.
"Where did you go?" He asked.
Josephine quickly said, "Just went for a walk. Are you done with your work?"
"I need to go to the office," Stuart said, "There's a document I need to sign."
"Okay," Josephine said, "I'll go home later and have dinner with Grandpa tonight."
"Alright. Mom, I'm leaving now."
After Stuart left, Nicole asked Josephine, "I remember this needs to be done with morning urine. Is it accurate to test now?"
Josephine said, "It's accurate. If I'm really pregnant, it should show."
"Then go quickly."
Josephine went into the bathroom.
She hadn't used this thing in a long time, so she studied it for a bit.
Nicole waited anxiously outside.
The family was well-off, and they could afford to raise several children.
Gerald couldn't be relied on, and Bodhi was focused on research, which involved radiation, so he probably couldn't have children.
They could only hope Josephine would have more children.
It would be best to have a daughter, so they would have both a son and a daughter with Jeffery.
But it wasn't a requirement; having a boy or a girl would be good.
Nicole paced outside, and finally, the bathroom door opened.
Nicole quickly asked, "How is it? Are you pregnant?"
Josephine looked a bit confused and incredulous.
She held the pregnancy test, her voice light, "It shows positive."
"That means you're pregnant!" Nicole said, "Oh, that's great!"
Josephine was still a bit dazed.
She hadn't expected the surprise to come so quickly.
When she took the test, the result appeared quickly, no need to wait.
It was like it couldn't wait to tell her a baby was coming.
Nicole pulled Josephine to sit down. "What now? Should we go to the hospital for a check-up?"
Josephine was dazed for a moment before saying, "Let's go tomorrow, I need to get an ultrasound."
"Such good news, I'll call Gerald and tell him."
"Mom, Gerald is on a business trip, let's tell him when he gets back."
"Then call Stuart quickly!"
"He just went to the office, let's tell him when he gets back."
"Alright, you shouldn't go back alone. Why don't you stay here for a while? I'll take care of you myself, then I'll be at ease."
"It's okay, Mom, it's not my first pregnancy," Josephine laughed, "Besides, I don't feel comfortable leaving Grandpa alone."
"No, I have to take care of you," Nicole thought for a moment, "How about you tell Mr. Haustia, and I'll go stay with you for a while? Gerald isn't home much, and Ulysses is at boarding school."
"That works," Josephine said, "I'll tell Grandpa."
Nicole said, "I'll pack my things now, and we'll go together later."
Josephine called Andrew, not daring to mention her pregnancy, only saying that Nicole would stay with them for a few days.
Andrew was naturally happy to agree.
But he was a bit puzzled. Why did Nicole want to stay over when the two houses were so close?
