Chapter 187 Inopportune Affection Is Useless.
Stuart snorted. He knew it. No man could resist such temptation. Not even Liam.
Even though Liam and Josephine had a deep bond, so what? Wasn't he still willing to forget Josephine for a bit of profit?
Right now, Stuart really wanted to record this scene and show it to Josephine later. So much for growing up together and being as strong as gold. Liam was no different.
Stuart's feelings for Josephine were unmatched. He was willing to give up this piece of land for her. What about Liam?
Thinking of that, Stuart even started to feel happy. He said, "Of course it's true. My sincerity is enough. Just tell me where she is, and this land is yours."
The next second, Liam spoke. "No wonder, when I went to predict my fortune earlier, the result was no wealth."
Stuart frowned. "What do you mean?"
Liam smiled. "Because I refuse."
Stuart's brain almost overloaded. He was stunned for a few seconds, doubting if he had heard wrong. "What did you say?"
Liam pushed the untouched wine glass back to him. "I said, I refuse."
Stuart never expected him to refuse so straightforwardly. It seemed he didn't even hesitate before saying it.
"Think it over," Stuart said, feeling his earlier assumptions were a joke. "Or rather, this isn't something you can decide. You'd better contact your elders and ask for their opinion."
"I don't need to," Liam smiled. "If it's my money, I can hold onto it. If it's not, I don't care."
"Liam," Stuart said in a deep voice, "You need to think clearly about what this land means to you. It could be the goal you strive for your whole life."
"So what?" Liam looked at him calmly. "It's great, expensive, and rare. But I'm sorry. I can't provide the corresponding information for the deal, so I can't take this land."
"So, you don't know Josephine's whereabouts?" Stuart asked. "If you knew, would this land be enough for you to reveal it?"
Stuart just wanted Liam to admit that his feelings for Josephine could be easily swayed.
Liam raised an eyebrow. "Sorry to disappoint you. Even if I knew, I wouldn't harm her for a mere piece of land."
"Liam!" Stuart's anger surged. "Watch your words! Do you think that telling me her information is hurting her? What do you take me for?"
"You know how you've treated her," Liam snorted. "Inopportune affection is useless. Acting remorsefully now, who are you trying to fool? Not all mistakes have a chance for redemption. You've hurt her so many times, stabbed her heart countless times, and you still expect her to forgive you?"
Stuart wanted to retort, "I..."
Liam said, "Even if those wounds scar over, underneath the scars, it's still bloody. When you get bored and have had enough, it's like reopening her wounds, and the hurt she feels is even worse than the first time. Stuart, let her go."
After a few seconds, Stuart asked, "Are you done?"
Liam spoke, "Although I have a lot more to say, forget it, we won't have much interaction in the future anyway."
"That land isn't enough," Stuart said. "What else do you want? Just name it."
Liam shook his head. "Didn't you hear what I said?"
"I heard," Stuart replied. "I don't need to promise you anything. But since Josephine considers you family, I'll tell you that I won't let her down in the future. Got it?"
Liam smiled. "Stuart, we're both men; you don't need to pretend to care in front of me. Given what you've done since marrying Josephine, your words mean nothing."
"Liam, don't push your luck." Stuart picked up the glass and drank most of the wine. "I'll ask one more time. Besides that land, what else do you want?"
"I want you to stay away from Josephine." Liam stood up and buttoned his suit. "Stuart, don't think everyone is like you, treating emotions as tradeable items. I'll say it again. Even if I knew where Josephine is, I would never tell you!"
Stuart didn't look up, just stared at the ice in the glass, which was gradually melting. "Liam, have you thought about the consequences of opposing me?"
Even though he disliked Liam, Stuart had never made things difficult for the Clement family in business. Now, it was clear he was using this to threaten Liam.
Liam looked down at him. "I've thought about it, more than once. Stuart, you should be glad the Haustia family's business is bigger than mine; otherwise, three years ago, I wouldn't have let Josephine marry you."
After Liam finished speaking, he left. Stuart was silent for a few seconds, then with a wave of his hand, he swept the bottles and glasses off the table, shattering them on the floor.
The anger in his heart, mixed with inexplicable emotions, made it impossible for him to calm down. He had underestimated Liam's feelings for Josephine. But this fact made him even more agitated.
He had thought that Liam might have feelings for Josephine, but in the face of billions of dollars, he would waver. However, Liam’s words brought him crashing back to reality.
It made him jealous and also made him realize that his belief that money could replace emotions was really foolish. Moreover, he had exposed this foolishness to the person he least wanted to expose it to.
Letting Liam see him as a joke, how could Stuart be in a good mood?
Half an hour later, Robin received a call from Stuart. Stuart said simply, "Come over for a drink."
By the time Robin arrived, the mess had already been cleaned up. The whiskey in front of Stuart had been replaced with red wine. The decanter was filled with dark red liquid, and the room was filled with a faint aroma of wine.
Robin didn't know that Liam had been there half an hour earlier. He hadn't been doing well recently either, with no progress in finding Josephine. Even though his people had gone from sneaking around to being blatant, it was as if Josephine had disappeared from the face of the earth.
Stuart was pouring half a glass of red wine into his mouth. Robin sat down beside him. "That's not how you drink red wine. A bottle worth tens of thousands, and you're just gulping it down; it's a total waste."
