Chapter 233 How Could You Possibly Have A Son?
Josephine stood in Stuart's way at the door, fresh out of the shower and ready to hit the sack.
Before their divorce, Stuart kept saying she'd regret it.
But Josephine never did. It was Stuart who ended up eating his words.
Just a moment ago, he asked her what he needed to do to get her forgiveness.
Josephine shot back, "Stay away from me, and maybe I'll forgive you if you stop showing up."
She didn't even bother to look at his face before slamming the door shut.
As she settled into bed, her phone buzzed.
Seeing the video call request, Josephine's face lit up.
Due to Stuart's dramatic behavior, she completely forgot to call Jeffery.
Jeffery must've gotten tired of waiting and called her first.
She answered, and there was Jeffery's sweet face on the screen.
"Mommy!" His voice still had that cute ring to it, with brown eyes and a straight nose that looked a lot like hers.
Josephine's heart melted, and she softened her tone. "Jeffery!"
Jeffery flashed an adorable smile. "Mommy! Are you going to sleep?"
Even though she saw him every day, Josephine's heart skipped a beat at his angelic smile.
"I had a busy day and forgot to call you. I'll sleep later. Did you have breakfast, Jeffery?"
"Yep, I did!" Jeffery blinked his big, beautiful eyes. "Mommy, did you eat well?"
"Yes, I did." Talking to her sweet and thoughtful Jeffery, Josephine's voice got even softer. "I took good care of myself, so you have to eat well too."
"I know." Jeffery leaned closer to the camera. "I've been good. Mommy, when will you come back?"
"Very soon." Josephine clutched her chest again, seeing Jeffery's face up close. "Even if I can't come back, I'll bring you over. Then we won't be apart anymore."
Jeffery's face lit up. "Then I'll wait for you to come!"
Knowing she needed rest, Jeffery, though reluctant, ended the call after a few more minutes.
After hanging up, the smile on his little face vanished, and his delicate features turned cold and stern, making him look quite different from Josephine.
Josephine had no idea that her sweet, obedient Jeffery could turn so cold and serious when she wasn't around.
To her, Jeffery was just her little angel.
After the video call, she made another call, which was quickly picked up.
"Roy, long time no see," Josephine said.
Roy's voice was excited but a bit pouty. "Josephine, you haven't called me in days!"
Josephine chuckled. "I've been super busy. Did you set everything up like we talked about?"
"Of course!" Roy's handsome face was all smiles. "Just say the word, and I can bring Jeffery to you right away."
"No rush, in a couple of days. I'll let you know when I'm done with my stuff," Josephine replied.
"Great! I'll bring Jeffery back then and surprise you!" Roy was thrilled. "You'll love seeing Jeffery!"
"He's my son; of course, I will!" Josephine laughed. "You've improved. Keep it up!"
Roy was even happier. "I'll do my best!"
Roy Brooks was a buddy Josephine met while she was abroad. His dad was a big-shot local tycoon who got diagnosed with liver cancer a couple of years back, and Josephine was the one who did the surgery.
That was how she and Roy got to know each other.
If Roy really brought Jeffery back, he'd be playing the role of her boyfriend and Jeffery's real dad.
Stuart might still be holding onto some hope now, but once Roy and Jeffery showed up, he'd probably back off. Same with Rex.
Thinking about how Roy could fix all her problems, Josephine couldn't help but look forward to his arrival. She really missed Jeffery.
Josephine quickly dozed off and even had a sweet dream about reuniting with Jeffery.
When the alarm went off, she stayed in bed for a few more minutes before getting up to wash up.
Just as she stepped out of the bedroom, she heard a knock on the door.
Other than Stuart, she couldn't think of anyone else who'd knock at this hour.
She opened the door, and sure enough, there was Stuart standing there.
He was holding a three-tiered lunchbox and quickly said, "Josephine, I brought you breakfast."
Josephine didn't plan on letting him in and said while holding the door, "I told you I have a boyfriend, and it's true."
Stuart's jaw tightened as he tried to hide his pain. "I know. As long as you're not married, I still have a chance."
Josephine said, "He's not just my boyfriend; he's also the father of my child."
With a loud thud, the wooden lunchbox hit the ground.
Stuart was stunned, thinking he must have misheard. "What did you say?"
"I said, I not only have a boyfriend but also a child with him," Josephine repeated, "The child is already four years old."
Stuart was completely floored.
Josephine glanced at him, then turned to grab her bag, changed her shoes, and headed out to press the elevator button.
"I don't believe it! This can't be true; it must be a lie!" Stuart suddenly rushed over and grabbed her arm. "You're lying to me, right? How could you have a child?"
"Mr. Haustia, we've been divorced for almost five and a half years. In over five years, anything could happen."
Stuart refused to accept it. "Impossible, impossible."
Seeing Stuart in such a daze, Josephine regretted not telling him about Jeffery sooner.
If she had known that the news of her having a child would shock him so much, she would have told him right away.
When she got downstairs, she found Otis already waiting for her.
Just as she was about to get in the car, the door of a low-key black car nearby suddenly opened, and Rex stepped out.
Rex called her, "Josephine."
Josephine looked up at him and said, "What a coincidence, Mr. Armstrong."
Rex said, "It's not a coincidence; I came here specifically to see you."
Josephine asked, "What do you want?"
Rex replied, "You mentioned before that you have a boyfriend. I wanted to ask when he'd be available so I could invite you both to dinner."
Josephine smiled. "Sure. He'll be here in a few days, so I hope you can prepare an extra set of utensils."
"An extra set?" Rex raised an eyebrow. "Do you have two boyfriends?"
Josephine said, "Of course not. I only have one boyfriend. The extra set is for my son, Jeffery."
Rex looked shocked. "What? Your son?"
Josephine thought, 'Jeffery is really coming in handy!'
