Chapter 510 Are You Afraid of Me?
Even Nicole noticed something was off.
She asked Ulysses, "Is your dad okay these past few days?"
Ulysses hadn't started school yet, and it was very cold these days, so he stayed home with Nicole.
Hearing Nicole's question, Ulysses said, "What could be wrong with him? We can't help with his work issues anyway."
Nicole still felt something was wrong. "Isn't your dad working late tonight?"
"He said he was going out for dinner," Ulysses said. "It must be with..."
He almost let it slip and quickly corrected himself, "It must be a social engagement."
"He's been out for over twenty days this month. Can his body handle it?"
"Grandma, my dad is in good health."
"Good health and still got sick!" Nicole said. "Pneumonia is serious, it can be life-threatening!"
"But he's better now," Ulysses said. "His physical condition is almost as good as someone in their twenties. He exercises every day and goes boxing every week, more than I do."
"That's true," Nicole sighed. "But he's in his forties. They say men start to decline at fifty."
"You don't need to worry about my dad!"
"How can I not worry? He doesn't have anyone to take care of him. When I die..."
"Oh, Grandma, why do you always say that? With your health, you'll live to be a hundred and twenty!"
"You just know how to sweet-talk me."
"Anyway, don't worry."
"Parents are like this. Your dad is alone, I might not even be able to rest in peace when I die."
Ulysses thought for a moment and said, "Grandma, I have something to tell you, but you have to keep it a secret."
Nicole was curious, "What is it?"
"Actually, my dad... my dad might have someone he likes."
"What?" Nicole was shocked. "Are you serious?"
"Yeah," Ulysses said. "Do you remember that scarf?"
"Of course, I remember!"
Gerald was acting very strangely at that time.
Ulysses said, "That scarf was given to him by the woman he likes."
"So, you've met her? You know her? Tell me, what's going on!"
"They just have a good feeling about each other," Ulysses said. "But my dad said to keep it a secret, afraid you'd be disappointed, and also afraid it might not work out."
"So, are they dating now?"
"Probably?"
"When did this start?"
"Just these past few days, when my dad was in the hospital, the woman he likes visited a few times!"
Nicole clasped her hands together. "Oh, Gerald finally figured it out! I thought he was going to be single and lonely forever!"
"So, Grandma, don't worry," Ulysses said. "The woman my dad likes is very nice."
"Tell me quickly, what's her personality like, what does she do, how old is she? Do you have a photo?"
Ulysses had no choice but to tell her everything.
At this time, Gerald had no idea his son had already spilled the beans.
He had a date with Kathy at seven.
But there was a meeting at five, and it wasn't over by seven.
For the first date, Gerald didn't want to be late.
He told the people around him and left early.
Several senior leaders were surprised to see him leave.
Gerald had been working for so many years and had never been late or left early.
What was going on today?
When he got off work at five-thirty, Gerald had already let the driver go.
So, he walked to the gate of the unit and greeted the people in the reception room.
"Mr. Clarence, no car today?"
"My family is picking me up, they're in front."
"Oh, I see. Take care, Mr. Clarence."
Waving his hand, Gerald walked towards the intersection.
Kathy had sent him the license plate number in advance.
Gerald walked over, and it was exactly seven o'clock.
Kathy was looking down at her phone, and Gerald knocked on the car window.
Kathy looked up, a bit confused, with a hint of innocence and naivety in her big eyes.
Gerald couldn't help but smile.
"Are you off work?" Kathy asked.
She wanted to get out of the car, but Gerald said, "Don't move, where should I sit?"
"Is the front passenger seat okay?" Kathy asked.
"Of course." Gerald walked to the front passenger seat, opened the door, and got in.
"Have you been waiting long?" He asked.
Kathy started the car, "No, I just got here. Should I head to the restaurant now?"
"Okay," Gerald said, looking at her. "If this happens again, call me when you arrive."
"Waiting a bit is no problem," Kathy said. "I'm off work anyway."
Gerald noticed she was quite skilled at driving and asked, "When did you learn to drive?"
Kathy said, "I learned abroad, then switched to a domestic license when I came back. It was quite an adjustment at first."
"It can be hard to adapt," Gerald praised her. "You're very capable."
Kathy was a bit embarrassed, "I just drive slowly and don't compete with others."
"If all drivers were like you, that would be great."
They chatted casually and soon arrived at the restaurant.
Gerald had chosen a restaurant not far from the unit, mainly to avoid traffic.
They entered the restaurant, and Gerald held the menu, asking her, "Any dietary restrictions or favorite foods?"
Kathy shook her head.
Gerald said, "I'll order a few signature dishes for you to try. If you like them, we can come back."
Hearing his words, Kathy felt sweet inside.
That meant they would have more dates.
After ordering, Gerald chatted with her a bit more, and Kathy responded.
Then, Gerald was silent for a few seconds.
The air became a bit awkward.
Kathy glanced at Gerald, not knowing what was wrong.
Gerald smiled, "Are you afraid of me?"
Kathy was stunned, then shook her head, "No, not at all."
Gerald said, "I ask, and you answer. It's like I'm the teacher, and you're the student, or I'm the boss, and you're the subordinate."
Kathy lowered her eyes, "We haven't met many times, it's normal to have a process of getting to know each other."
"Normal?" Gerald smiled, "Alright, it can't always be me asking, it's your turn to ask me."
Kathy was a bit confused.
Gerald said, "Ask, why aren't you talking?"
Kathy said, "I don't know what to ask."
Gerald asked, "Don't you want to know more about me?"
"Of course, I do."
"Then ask," Gerald said. "Whatever you want to know, I'll tell you."
"Really?" Kathy said, "What if I ask something inappropriate?"
Gerald said, "Ask away, I'll answer everything."
Kathy made a sound of acknowledgment.
Gerald laughed, "What question is so hard to ask?"
Kathy finally asked, "This might be a bit abrupt, but I want to know, how many girlfriends have you had before?"
