Chapter 292 Can I Hold You for a Moment?
The sweet moment had just started when Stuart got shoved away.
Instinctively, he held her tighter, but then he realized and started to panic a bit.
"Josephine," he pleaded.
Even though he pulled away from her lips, he still didn't want to let go. "I really lost control last night. Please don't be mad."
"And now?" Josephine tried to break free but couldn't. "Let go of me! Are you out of control now too?"
"Josephine," Stuart looked at her with pain in his eyes. "How long has it been since I held you? Can I just hold you for a bit?"
Josephine avoided his gaze. "No! Let go!"
Stuart begged, "Think of it as a reward for me, okay? I helped you get back at Alfonso!"
Josephine snapped back, "I don't need you anymore!"
Stuart quickly added, "I'll behave! Just let me hold you for ten minutes; no, five minutes, okay?"
Josephine angrily retorted, "Wasn't last night enough for you? I don't know how long you held me!"
"I don't want to hold you when you're unconscious," Stuart said. "Josephine, I want you to willingly let me hold you."
Josephine propped one hand on his shoulder to keep some distance. "I don't want to."
"Josephine," Stuart started to act all cute, rubbing his head against her shoulder. "Five minutes will fly by."
Josephine attempted to push him away but found herself unable to. As she struggled, she inadvertently brushed against his arousal and froze.
Stuart reassured her, "It's fine, don't be scared. I'm just too excited."
"Let go of me!" Josephine gritted her teeth. "What are you thinking about!"
"Thinking about you," Stuart said innocently. "I only get like this when I think about you."
They were so close that Josephine could feel his breath.
Employing a newfound tactic of whining and being obstinate, Stuart held on with unexpected vigor. Josephine chose to remain silent.
Once it got quiet, the atmosphere became even more ambiguous and romantic.
She didn't look at Stuart but knew he was staring at her.
"Stuart," she couldn't help but ask, "what do you even like about me? Isn't it because we got divorced and you felt humiliated, so you want to win back your dignity?"
"That's not it," Stuart said. "If it was just about dignity, I wouldn't be in so much pain. Josephine, you don't know what I've been through these past five years since you left."
Josephine interrupted him. "Five minutes are up."
"It can't be that quick!" Stuart backtracked once more. "I was watching the clock, it's not up yet!"
Josephine called helplessly, "Stuart!"
"I'm here," Stuart held her. "I know you haven't accepted me, but Josephine, I beg of you, have pity on me just for tonight. Let me hold you for a while, okay?"
Josephine remained silent.
Stuart closed his eyes and carefully leaned on her shoulder.
His breathing was shallow, as if afraid to disturb Josephine.
When he said he wanted to hold her, he really just held her quietly, doing nothing else.
Only Josephine knew how passionate his body was.
She didn't dare move, afraid she might be poked by something.
Maybe Stuart also knew his request was a bit much. Although it was more than five minutes, it wasn't too long before he let her go.
Josephine quickly stood up and took a couple of steps to the side.
Stuart said, "Are you that afraid of me?"
After he said that, he looked down at himself and realized he had gone too far.
He persisted, "Josephine, you don't need to worry. I promise to respect you from now on. I won't pressure you into anything you're not comfortable with!"
Josephine shot back, "You just forced me to let you hold me for ten minutes!"
"Josephine," Stuart looked at her with puppy-dog eyes. "Haven't I earned a reward for my good behavior?"
Josephine asked, "What did you do?"
Stuart replied, "I held back and didn't go all the way with you last night."
Josephine retorted, "You kissed me, held me, and saw me naked. How is that considered good behavior?"
"But at least I held back," Stuart said. "You don't know how hard it was for me."
Josephine could imagine that.
After all, Stuart was a sensitive guy, one who would react even to a simple embrace.
She really didn't understand why he was so obsessed with making love.
Before they got divorced, his mind was always on this.
And now it was still the same.
How did he manage to build such a big business while thinking about this all the time?
Stuart pitifully said again, "Josephine."
He almost called her "honey."
Although he really wanted to call her that, he knew well that the journey to win Josephine back would be a long one.
Josephine sat down and changed the subject. "How do you plan to get back at Alfonso?"
"Since you mentioned it, I'll make sure he loses everything. He always flaunts his pride, so his reputation must mean a lot to him," Stuart said, seeking validation. "Josephine, am I doing okay?"
Josephine replied, "Yeah."
"No reward?" Stuart insisted.
"No!" Josephine stood up. "Since we agreed, I'm leaving."
"Josephine!" Stuart quickly followed. "I'll take you home!"
"Stuart," Josephine turned to look at him. "Are you that free? Don't you need to go to the office?"
"Yes," Stuart replied. "But I can take you home first and still make it."
"I want to be alone for a while," Josephine retorted.
Seeing Josephine about to leave, Stuart quickly said, "I don't have to take you, but, Josephine, can I make a request?"
Josephine gave him a piercing look. "You still want to make requests? What right do you have to make requests?"
Stuart said, "Since you gave me a chance now, does that mean you're no longer Roy's girlfriend?"
Josephine asked, "When did I say I gave you a chance?"
Stuart's eyes widened. "You can't do this."
Josephine was speechless. "What did I do? When did I say I gave you a chance?"
Stuart realized that the notion of a chance was something he had fabricated.
However, he believed that despite Josephine not explicitly stating anything, the signals she was sending were indeed in his favor.
Stuart quickly said, "Then can I try harder to earn this chance?"
This time, Josephine had no response.
She glanced at Stuart and continued walking.
Stuart quickly followed. "So, what's going on with you and Roy now?"
Josephine didn't say anything.
Stuart continued, "Josephine, I promise you, regardless of my feelings for Roy, I'll always treat Jeffery well! I'm free tomorrow, let's take Jeffery to the amusement park, okay?"
Josephine said, "You have work, and you have to deal with Alfonso. You should be very busy."
Stuart replied, "There's always time to spare. I used to neglect spending time with you, and I regret it now. Josephine, please agree, okay?"
Josephine thought Stuart was becoming more and more childish.
How could he be so clingy now, like a child?
