Chapter 448 Birthday Gift
On Josephine's birthday, Stuart sent his wishes early in the morning.
He recorded a video very seriously, standing in front of the camera, delivering a long birthday message to Josephine.
He wished Josephine health, happiness, peace, and all the best.
Josephine watched it several times.
In the video, Stuart was solemn and serious, as if he was doing the most serious thing in the world.
Josephine watched it twice and then messaged him: [You're too greedy.]
He gave her all the best wishes in the world. She thought even God wouldn't agree.
Seeing her reply, Stuart immediately made a video call request.
Josephine answered.
"Happy birthday!" Stuart smiled at her. "Now go open the door."
Josephine was surprised. "You're not outside, are you?"
"I wanted to, but you wouldn't let me." Stuart sounded a bit aggrieved. "I didn't go because I was afraid you'd be mad."
Josephine went to open the door and found a gift box at the doorstep.
"Did you have someone deliver this?" Josephine brought it in. "What is it?"
"Your breakfast," Stuart said. "The other gifts will have to wait until you come back."
"Breakfast as a gift is enough; you don't need to send anything else." Josephine was very happy.
Stuart said, "I got it from the best restaurant nearby. Take a look; it should be delicious."
The breakfast was very rich in variety. Who knew how much Stuart had to tip to get such a comprehensive meal delivered.
Josephine ate happily. Before she went to work, she reminded Stuart, "Steven's birthday is in a couple of days. If Laura invites you, remember to buy a gift."
"Okay."
This was Josephine's first birthday after returning to The Clarence Family, and it was also her previous birthday. Actually, her real birthday wasn't on this day. But she had celebrated it for so many years that she got used to it.
Coincidentally, her real birthday wasn't far from this one. So Stuart planned to visit her then.
Of course, he couldn't let Josephine know in advance, or she would be mad.
The urgent task now was to help Laura celebrate Steven's birthday.
The day came quickly.
Steven actually had some expectations for birthday gifts. Even if Laura's gifts were not very creative. But at least she picked them herself. That was enough for Steven.
Even if Laura picked a leaf from the street and gave it to him, he would be satisfied.
However, today, for some reason, Laura seemed to have forgotten about it since morning. In the past, she would at least say happy birthday and give a gift. Today, there was nothing. Steven wondered if she had forgotten.
It was possible; no one had mentioned it for several days. Given Laura's personality, it was normal for her to forget.
Steven had never felt any warmth from his family; the Bailey Family didn't even want to acknowledge him. So, developing himself to this point was a great threat and irony to the Bailey Family.
Now the Bailey Family no longer existed, or rather, Steven had recreated a new Bailey Family.
He was the unwelcomed child, never loved by his parents or family. Not to mention birthdays, he didn't even have enough to eat as a child.
Birthdays were a luxury he only had after being with Laura.
Laura had once said, "No one celebrates your birthday? Then I'll do it for you every year."
She kept her word. In all the years they were together, even the year they fought, Laura still bought him a birthday gift, even if she was too mad to talk to him.
No matter how cold the world was, Steven never believed in family affection. But Laura was the softest part of his heart.
He was willing to love the world because she was a part of it. If Laura forgot his birthday, it didn't seem to matter. So, Steven didn't mention it.
In the afternoon, Laura said she wanted to go shopping.
Steven didn't dare ask if it was for his birthday gift.
Forget it, let it be. If she remembered, she remembered; if not, so be it. As long as Laura was by his side, that was the best gift from God.
At a jewelry store, Laura asked Steven to sit while she went to the restroom.
Steven nodded obediently, looking like a well-behaved student despite being so powerful at the company.
As soon as Laura left, a little girl approached.
Steven didn't notice her at first until she spoke, "Hello."
Steven looked at her and asked, "Are you talking to me?"
"Yes." The little girl tilted her head. "I can't find my mom. Can you help me find her?"
Steven stood up and looked around. Indeed, he didn't see the girl's parents.
The girl, about five years old, had two cute pigtails and was holding a sunflower-shaped balloon.
Steven glanced in the direction Laura had left, told the store clerk, and then led the girl to the service desk.
They found the girl's mother at the service desk.
The mother thanked Steven, and the girl handed him her balloon. "Thank you."
Steven didn't want it; it seemed childish. But before he could refuse, the girl was already in her mother's arms.
Steven had to hold the balloon string and return to the jewelry store.
"Sir, your girlfriend just came back and said she would wait for you at the usual place."
"The usual place?" Steven was puzzled. "What usual place?"
"We don't know either."
Steven was a bit confused. He and Laura had many "usual places." Who knew which one Laura meant?
Besides, they were shopping. Why did Laura suddenly leave? Did she get mad because she didn't see him when she came back from the restroom?
Steven quickly took out his phone to call her. No answer. Steven started to worry.
He walked out quickly, calling her while thinking that if she didn't answer soon, he would check the surveillance footage.
"Hello," someone said, suddenly blocking his way. It was a girl, probably around thirteen or fourteen, wearing a school uniform and holding a donation box.
Steven put down his phone, took out his wallet, and put all his cash into the box, despite his anxiety.
The girl smiled at him. "Thank you for donating to orphans!"
Orphans? A light flashed in Steven's mind, something he almost grasped but then lost. Something was about to come out.
He looked at the string in his hand. Following the string up, he saw the sunflower balloon.
Laura adored sunflowers above all other flowers.
Orphans, a cause Laura had always supported.
Steven's heart skipped a beat!
