Chapter 425 The Treatment You Deserve

A minute later, Josephine carefully lay down on Stuart's hospital bed. The bed was narrow, but fortunately, both of them were thin.

Even so, it was still a bit cramped for two people.

When Stuart lay on the bed alone, his long legs seemed to have no place to go. With Josephine lying next to him, it looked even more pitiful.

Josephine initially didn't want to, but Stuart insisted repeatedly. She had no choice but to let Stuart stay still while she carefully lay down beside him.

"Josephine," Stuart, still shaken, held Josephine in his arms and finally felt at ease. "What should we do? I never want to be apart from you again."

Josephine also realized that after what happened during the day, she didn't want to leave Stuart for even a second. She just wanted to be with him all the time to feel safe. "Then let's not be apart," she said.

After a few seconds of silence, Stuart said, "I want to kiss you."

Josephine propped herself up on her elbow, leaned over, and touched the corner of his lips.

"Is that what you call a kiss?" Stuart laughed at her. "After all the time I've taught you, that's all you've learned? You're really not a good student; I can't let you graduate."

Josephine touched the corner of his lips with her fingertips. "I'll owe you one. When you get better, I'll give you all the kisses you want."

"Really?"

"Really."

Stuart, satisfied, held her in his arms. "Okay."

Josephine nuzzled his neck and said, "Gerald knows. He'll definitely tell my mom."

"Didn't you tell him not to say anything?"

"I did," Josephine said. "But I think it's a good thing if my mom knows. This way, she'll be more at ease with you."

"I don't want her to be at ease with me because of something like this," Stuart said. "Even if we can't be together, I want you to live a safe and peaceful life without any accidents."

"What kind of talk is that?" Josephine pinched him. "You even thought about us not being together?"

"At that time, I considered the worst-case scenarios," Stuart said. "If you never accepted me, I thought about what I would do. Maybe I'd stay your neighbor, maybe I'd watch you fall in love with someone else, get married, and have kids. Perhaps I wouldn't be able to be a part of your life anymore, but I still wouldn't want to be far away. I just wanted to watch over you."

Josephine was very surprised. She thought Stuart's personality was domineering and controlling, and if he couldn't get what he wanted, he might use some means or persistently pursue her. She never thought Stuart had such thoughts—to give up and just watch her from afar.

But then Stuart chuckled lightly. "But actually, I often denied this idea in the middle of the night. I was often tormented by the images I imagined, unable to sleep. Just thinking about you being with someone else made me insanely jealous."

Josephine didn't say anything.

Stuart continued, "But you told me to learn to respect. The premise of loving someone is to respect her thoughts. I think if that day ever came, I might torture myself to death, but I wouldn't make things difficult for you."

Josephine sniffled.

Stuart patted her back. "Alright, let's not talk about this. Anyway, I won't let go now, and no one can take you away from me!"

Josephine was amused by him again. After lying there for a while, she said, "You sleep well, and I'll go to that bed."

Stuart looked at her pitifully. "I'm injured, and you won't sleep with me?"

"This bed is too small," Josephine said. "I'm afraid we'll break it."

Stuart laughed. "We won't."

"Still, no," Josephine had to coax him softly. "When you get better, I'll sleep with you."

Stuart's eyes lit up. "When I get better, you'll sleep with me? Really?"

Josephine said, "I've decided. When you get discharged, I'll take care of you for a few days."

Stuart immediately said joyfully, "Okay, then you go sleep."

Seeing him so happy, Josephine felt a bit sad. It seemed he had been looking forward to this for a long time, but she had always been rejecting him.

She thought that after what happened, if she went to take care of Stuart, Nicole wouldn't say anything.

Gerald returned late after finishing his work. It was too late to disturb Nicole, who was already resting, because of this matter. After all, Josephine was fine.

Early the next morning, Gerald came back from his workout and saw Nicole coming out of the kitchen.

He directly said, "Mom, Stuart got injured and is in the hospital."

Josephine had called home yesterday, saying she wouldn't be back that night.

Nicole thought that staying out all night once would lead to a second time. Although she wasn't too happy about it, there was nothing she could do.

Hearing what Gerald said, she was startled. "What happened? How did he get injured? Where's Josephine?"

"Josephine is fine," Gerald briefly explained the situation and concluded, "They're both at the hospital now."

Nicole clutched her chest and took a while to calm down. "You said that person was targeting Josephine?"

"This matter is still under investigation," Gerald said. "I'll have someone keep an eye on it. Mom, at the critical moment, Stuart saved Josephine. I do appreciate that about him."

Nicole said, "That's normal, right? At a critical moment, seeing your loved one being attacked, anyone would rush up, right? I'm not biased towards Josephine, but if you have a girlfriend in the future and don't save her, I, as your mother, wouldn't agree!"

Gerald said, "That's true, but Stuart's intentions are also important."

"I know," Nicole put down what she was holding. "Josephine must have been scared. I'll go see her. By the way, since you didn't tell me last night, Stuart's injury shouldn't be too serious, right?"

Gerald smiled helplessly. "It's not serious, but he did get more than twenty stitches."

"I'll have the kitchen make something good to send over," Nicole said. "If it weren't for what happened before, I would have treated him like a son. But I keep dwelling on the past."

"Mom, Josephine doesn't mind anymore. Why can't you let it go?"

"Yes," Nicole sighed. "Anyway, I hope they live well together from now on."

In the morning, Josephine was helping Stuart wash up and was about to ask him what he wanted to eat when she received a call from Nicole.

After hanging up, she said to Stuart, "Gerald told Nicole this morning. She'll be coming over with food soon."

Stuart quickly said, "You should have told Nicole not to come. I'm not seriously injured."

"Let her come," Josephine said. "She'll bring you breakfast, and my mom probably just wants to make sure you're okay."

"Then I'm a bit nervous," Stuart laughed. "How can I let Nicole bring me food?"

"You did a good deed," Josephine also laughed. "This is the treatment you deserve."

Sure enough, Nicole arrived shortly after.
