Chapter 471 I Still Feel Quite Uncomfortable in My Heart
Steven said, "Giving gifts and stuff."
Since the three couples were having a joint wedding, the gift-giving was waived. Anyway, exchanging gifts back and forth was not very original, so they decided not to buy anything for each other.
But now that Claudia was pregnant, that was a different matter.
Laura slapped her forehead, "I almost forgot if you hadn't mentioned it!"
Steven was puzzled, "What?"
"I'm going to be the Godmother."
Steven asked, "How come you're the Godmother again?"
Laura said, "We agreed on it back then, I'm going to be the Godmother of both their children."
Steven said, "So are they going to be the Godmothers of our child too?"
Laura looked at him and said, "Do you know why I'm so eager to be their children's Godmother?"
Steven shook his head, "No idea."
Laura said, "Because I don't plan on having my own, so being a Godmother is a thrill for me."
Steven felt speechless.
Laura took out her phone, "I need to think about what gift to give. Do you think Claudia will have a boy or a girl this time?"
Steven said, "What do you want?"
"I already have a godson," Laura said, "so I'd like a goddaughter this time."
"Actually, no," Laura said, "Jair's family probably wants a boy, so let's hope Claudia has a boy this time."
After saying that, she looked at Steven again, "Come to think of it, I'm pretty lucky."
Steven raised an eyebrow, "Why do you say that?"
"They all have elders in their families, and sometimes they have to consider their elders' opinions about having children," Laura said, "But you're different! No one cares about me!"
Steven was an illegitimate child, so he had a bad relationship with the Bailey Family. His mother passed away when he was very young. The Bailey Family didn't care about him and even wished he would die. So in a way, Steven had no elders.
They weren't pressured to have children, but Laura knew Steven seemed to want one. However, to Laura, who cherished her beauty, the thought of pregnancy—with its inevitable weight gain, physical changes, and post-birth body alterations—felt like a death sentence. She would rather die than lose her looks. So pregnancy and childbirth were never in her life plan.
Josephine and Claudia knew what kind of person she was, so they only occasionally mentioned it but couldn't do anything about it. After all, Steven wasn't in a hurry. They couldn't be more anxious than Steven, right?
After discussing what gift to give with Josephine, Laura softly asked Steven, "If I never have a child in my life, would you regret it?"
Steven said, "Maybe a little. But life is never perfect, having some regrets is fine."
Laura knew Steven was good to her, truly unconditionally spoiling her.
He had suffered a lot and been bullied a lot as a child. Since the only person who loved him passed away, Steven had no family in this world.
When they first met, Laura liked him and treated him well.
A teenage girl, treating him so well with all her heart.
Steven was not yet twenty at that time, just starting his business, and always being suppressed by the Bailey Family. It seemed like the whole world was against him. Only Laura was his ray of light.
Later, he succeeded and the Bailey Family had to fear him.
In the end, he could trample everyone underfoot and look down on the world.
Except for Laura, she was still the only ray of light in his life.
Laura was his salvation. Not having a child was nothing. Laura was like his child, and raising her for a lifetime was enough for him.
But actually, he did have a bit of a desire for a child. Not because he wanted a child for himself, but because he occasionally wondered what a child between him and Laura would be like.
If it was a girl, like Laura, it would be interesting.
Laura knew Steven was always accommodating to her. She never wronged herself, but actually, she was also a reasonable person.
She said, "So not having a child is a regret?"
Steven said, "If you say so, then it is."
Laura leaned closer to him, "I have an idea. I don't want to give birth, so why don't you find someone else to have a child for you..."
Before she could finish, Steven pressed her down and slightly slapped her twice, "What nonsense are you talking about!"
Laura said, "I heard there are ways to do it without having a relationship... it's not what you think... anyway, if you want, it's not impossible."
"Would that child have anything to do with you?"
Laura shook her head, "Of course not!"
"Then I don't want it," Steven said, "Why would I foolishly raise someone else's child!"
"But that child would be yours."
"If it's not born by you, I don't acknowledge it," Steven said, "If it doesn't have your blood, it's not my child."
"Do you really want me to give birth?"
"No need," Steven said, "I just want to take care of you."
"Treat me like a child?"
"Yes," Steven kissed her, "For a lifetime."
A soft spot in Laura's heart melted.
The next day, Claudia's parents came and took Claudia to Jair's house in Celestia Springs.
Josephine and Laura followed to help settle in.
After settling in, the three of them went to a café at the entrance of the community to rest.
Claudia couldn't drink coffee anymore, so she ordered a juice.
Laura sipped her coffee and sighed.
Claudia asked her, "What's wrong? Tired?"
There wasn't much to settle, and The Clarence Family had sent a nanny and a chef over.
Laura shook her head, "Not tired, I'm conflicted."
Josephine asked her, "Conflicted about what?"
Laura said, "About having a child."
"What's there to be conflicted about," Claudia said, "If you want one, have one. If you don't, don't."
Laura said, "If it were that simple, it would be great."
Josephine asked, "Did Steven talk to you about having a child?"
"It would be better if he did," Laura said, "He said he doesn't want one, wants to treat me like a child for a lifetime."
"Isn't that great?"
"What's great about it," Laura said, "Do you think he's saying that on purpose to make me feel guilty? I didn't want a child, but he said that, making me feel uncomfortable."
Claudia said, "He's not doing it on purpose, he really wants to treat you like a child."
Josephine also said, "Exactly, Mr. Bailey is a great boyfriend, you won't find another like him."
"You all speak for him, does that make me seem more unreasonable?"
Josephine said, "It's not that you're unreasonable. Steven must be respecting your opinion. You don't need to be anxious. Maybe one day, you'll want a child, not because of what Steven said, but because you simply want one."
Laura said, "I'm not that foolish to want a child and bring trouble to myself."
