Chapter 235 Is That Child Yours?

Stuart called out to Jair.

Jair had just wrapped up a part of his work and barely had a moment to relax when he heard Stuart's voice, which made him jump.

"Dude, you sounded like it was an emergency," Jair said, rushing over to find Stuart looking all down. "What's up? Is Andrew okay?"

Stuart replied, "He's fine."

Jair let out a sigh of relief. "Phew, that's good. So, what's got you so bummed out?"

Stuart looked sad. "Josephine's got a boyfriend."

Jair was stunned. "No way, you got no shot?"

Stuart added, "And she's got a four-year-old son."

Jair's jaw dropped. "What?"

"Yeah, didn't see that coming, did you?" Stuart gave a bitter smile. "I can't believe it either, but it's true."

"That's nuts," Jair said, still in shock. "She didn't get married, so who's the dad? The kid's four? You guys split up just over five years ago. Could the kid be yours?"

Stuart's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"

Jair went on, "What if she was already pregnant when you guys divorced?"

Stuart shook his head. "No way, unless..."

Unless it was that one time.

When he had locked Josephine up and forced himself on her.

Thinking back to that, Stuart felt a pang of regret.

There were so many ways to win someone back, why did he have to go and do that?

Jair said, "The kid's over four. If he's not yours, it means Josephine hooked up with someone right after leaving you. Do you think, knowing her, that's possible?"

Stuart was hit hard by this thought.

Could Josephine's son really be his?

"You did screw up before, and maybe Josephine had the kid and didn't want you to know. But with today's tech, a paternity test would clear it up."

"If he really is my kid..." Stuart was so excited at the thought he could barely speak. "What, what should I do?"

"What should you do? Keep going after her, duh!" Jair gave him a look. "You're usually pretty sharp, what's up with you now?"

Stuart replied, "I know I should, but..."

But just thinking about Josephine going through the pregnancy and raising the kid alone...

Even though he didn't know much about pregnancy and raising a kid, he could imagine how tough it must've been for her.

Stuart found it even harder to forgive himself.

If Jeffery really was his kid, then Josephine's cold attitude towards him made sense.

"I owe her too much." Stuart covered his face. "I can never make it up to her."

Jair said, "I'm not gonna harp on what you did before. It's good you're feeling remorse now. Like I told you last time, if you keep at it and show you're sincere, things will work out. You guys had something before, and if you don't give up, I believe Josephine will give you a chance."

Stuart was still a bit out of it. "You really think she could've had my kid?"

"Can't be sure now, but I think it's pretty likely," Jair said. "If the kid is yours, it could help you win Josephine back."

Stuart shook his head. "I won't use the kid for anything. I owe her too much."

"In this situation, the most important thing is to pull yourself together and not back down over a small matter."

"I'm not thinking of backing down; I'm just in so much pain," Stuart said. "I can't imagine if she ends up with someone else. And to her, I'm just a stranger."

Jair patted his shoulder. "Hang in there, man. All I can do is cheer you on."

"She said her son will be coming to Hustalia in a few days. When that happens, I'll find a chance to do a paternity test." Stuart tried hard to keep his excitement in check. "I hadn't even thought in that direction, thanks for the heads-up."

Jair said, "Don't get your hopes up too high, just in case the kid isn't yours."

Stuart's jaw tightened, and after a few seconds of silence, he said, "No matter whose kid it is, my feelings for Josephine won't change."

Jair said, "I support you, but if Josephine really falls for someone else, you gotta learn to let go."

"How can I let go?" Stuart took a deep breath, unable to suppress the pain in his heart. "When I realized it, I knew I loved her deeply. I don't want to be this pathetic, I want to be more carefree, but I can't."

Jair shook his head. "If you knew this would happen, why did you do it in the first place? I told you back then not to listen to Robin."

Stuart yelled, "Don't mention him."

Jair said, "Do you know how much he dislikes Josephine now?"

"No." Stuart gritted his teeth. "He did so many things behind the scenes to make sure Josephine and I got divorced!"

"No matter what he did, it was because you didn't trust Josephine that gave him the opportunity."

"Yes, I was wrong." Stuart's eyes were cold. "But do you know, he actually had other intentions towards Josephine! He had been hoping for me to divorce Josephine so he could get close to her!"

"What?" Jair couldn't believe his ears. "That's impossible, how could he..."

A friend's wife, but Robin coveted her.

Not to mention, Robin and Stuart were more than just ordinary friends; their bond was as close as brothers.

"It's true," Stuart said through gritted teeth. "Who would have thought he could be so despicable and shameless!"

Jair asked, "So what are you going to do now?"

"I won't let him get away with it!" Stuart said. "If he dared to do such a thing, he should have thought about the consequences!"

Jair had always thought Robin's views on Josephine were too one-sided. He had been puzzled by Robin's sometimes inexplicable behavior.

He never expected that Robin really had different intentions towards Josephine!

With Stuart saying this, Jair couldn't possibly advise him to go easy on Robin.

Robin had done wrong and should indeed pay the price.

Jair just reminded him, "No matter what, the Bailey Family elders have a good relationship with Mr. Haustia, so be considerate."

Stuart said, "Don't worry, I won't harm innocent people. Besides, the Bailey Family doesn't only have Robin in this generation."

Jair knew that Robin was in for a tough time.

Robin was in more than just a tough time.

On the very day Stuart confronted him, a major project Robin was in charge of encountered problems and he faced collective criticism from the board of directors.

The next day, tax officials conducted a surprise inspection, and Robin was taken away.

Laura heard the news and immediately called Josephine, "Did you hear? That scumbag Robin got arrested!"
