Chapter 258 Will You Give Me a Chance?

Originally, the three of them had planned to go together, but the research institute called Josephine at the last minute, asking her to come over.

Jeffery's little face visibly fell.

Josephine hurried off, and Laura asked him, "Is it not okay if I take you? Don't you like me?"

"No," Jeffery said. "I just want to be with Mommy, too."

Laura comforted him, "This time, we'll get familiar with the place and see what's fun. Next time, we can bring your mommy directly, okay?"

Jeffery now had something to do. "Okay!"

He acted like a little manager, discussing the pros and cons of the attractions with Laura after playing.

However, he was too young, and there weren't many things he could play with.

But the two of them tried everything they could, and it was quite enjoyable.

Laura was passionate, like a ball of fire.

Even Jeffery, who usually kept a stern face in front of others, showed a child's innocent smile in front of her.

They got tired and found a restaurant in the amusement park. After sitting down, Jeffery said, "Godmother, someone is following us."

Laura was taken aback and instinctively thought it was Steven.

But Jeffery said, "It's that guy named Stuart."

Following Jeffery's gaze, Laura saw Stuart.

Laura thought, 'A man coming to an amusement park alone? Who would believe that?'

She couldn't help but glare at him, then turned back to Jeffery and said, "Ignore him. If he wants to follow, let him follow."

Stuart couldn't possibly do anything.

He wouldn't dare to snatch Jeffery in broad daylight, would he?

Seeing that they had noticed him, Stuart simply walked over and asked, "May I ask a presumptuous question?"

Before he could finish, Jeffery, with his cute yet cold little face, said, "If you know it's presumptuous, then don't ask."

Stuart fell silent, completely stunned.

Seeing Stuart being subdued by Jeffery in an instant, Laura felt a surge of satisfaction.

She said, "Yeah, if you know it's presumptuous, don't come over. It's very rude."

Stuart had always disliked Laura, but now, to win back Josephine, he had to bow down to her.

And then there was Jeffery. Just thinking that he was Josephine and Roy's child made Stuart feel repulsed.

If he had a choice, he would never want to get close to these two.

But unfortunately, these two were very important in Josephine's life.

Stuart asked, "I just want to know, why are you the one accompanying Jeffery? Where are Josephine and Roy?"

Laura said, "Mr. Haustia, don't you think you're overstepping a bit?"

Stuart replied, "I just think that having Josephine and Roy accompany him is best for his growth."

"That's none of your concern," Laura said, "They love Jeffery very much. When they were abroad, they often took Jeffery out to play. Today, I, as his godmother, wanted to spend time with him. Do you have a problem with that?"

Stuart glanced at Jeffery and quickly looked away.

He realized that ever since he knew Jeffery was Josephine and Roy's child, he couldn't look at him in a normal way.

Even though he tried to suppress it, his gaze still held a hint of rejection when he looked at Jeffery.

"It's not safe for you to take Jeffery out alone," Stuart said, "Are you still going to play? I can take you back."

Jeffery kept his little face stern and didn't say another word.

Laura said, "Thank you, but no need. If you're so free, why not go to a nursing home and help the elderly wash their feet and hair?"

She stood up, holding Jeffery's little hand. "Jeffery, let's go to another place. I can't eat with him around!"

Jeffery didn't say anything, just nodded with a stern face.

Stuart's face turned grim!

As expected, Laura was as annoying as ever.

And this Jeffery, just like his father Roy, made him uncomfortable.

He just couldn't understand. Even if Josephine hated him, did she have to find a foreigner?

What was so good about that guy?

Stuart felt jealous and wanted to leave them alone, but he was worried about their safety.

He had recently seen a news report about a new scam by human traffickers.

Although he didn't want to admit it, Jeffery was indeed good-looking.

He would never admit it was because of Roy's genes.

It must be because Josephine was good-looking.

But those blue eyes of Jeffery's, he just couldn't stand them.

Laura switched to another restaurant and immediately messaged Josephine.

Then, Stuart, who was waiting outside the restaurant, received a call from Josephine.

He was delighted and quickly answered, "Josephine!"

Josephine's voice was cold. "Mr. Haustia, are you really this free? No work to do? No company to manage?"

Hearing this, Stuart knew Laura must have complained.

He quickly said, "No, I was just worried about her taking Jeffery out alone. You have no idea; there are many new scams by human traffickers nowadays."

"Thank you, but that's none of your concern," Josephine said, "You approached Laura, then Claudia, and now you're following Jeffery. What exactly do you want? If you keep this up, we can't even be friends anymore!"

"I'm not," Stuart panicked. "I'll stop following, okay? I really mean no harm."

"You really don't need to do this," Josephine said, "You have your own career and life. The way you're acting now, it's like you're a completely different person."

Stuart was silent for a few seconds before asking, "You don't like me this way, do you?"

Josephine said, "It's not about whether I like it or not. You need to be yourself."

Stuart replied, "But I did a lot of wrong things in the past, and I want to change."

Josephine continued, "Some things you can stick to for a while, but you can't keep it up for a lifetime. If I really liked the current you, could you keep up the act forever? Wouldn't you get tired? Wouldn't you get fed up? Stuart, it's unrealistic. So, there's no need for you to do this."

"I'm not pretending." Stuart was overjoyed. "Josephine, does this mean you're giving me a chance? I'll show you. If I'm good to you, I'll be good to you for a lifetime!"

Josephine explained, "That's not what I meant. I just want to say, there's no need for you to waste time on me anymore. You don't need to feel guilty or remorseful. I've let go of the past. So, can you let go too?"

With that, Josephine hung up.

She spaced out for a moment, and someone next to her called, "Dr. Kalmien, could you come over for a moment?"

She snapped back to reality. "Okay!"

Laura spent the whole day with Jeffery and returned around four or five o'clock.

At that time, Josephine was still busy, so Laura took Jeffery home first.

After getting out of the car and walking to the building, Jeffery kept walking forward but suddenly realized that Laura, who was holding his hand, had stopped.

He turned around and looked up at Laura. "Godmother, why aren't you moving?"

Laura retracted her gaze from the distance and looked down at him. "Let's go."

She led Jeffery into the building.

When Josephine returned, she had just gotten out of the car when someone called her.
