Chapter 55 How Could He Do Such a Thing?
Stuart pulled Josephine over and pressed her against the cabinet. "Josephine, you've gone too far!"
"Let's not talk about whether my behavior is excessive." Josephine looked at him with a cold face and said, "Mr. Haustia, you clearly love someone else, yet you want to be intimate with me. Isn't that inappropriate?"
"Shut up!" Stuart seemed to be struck by her words, looking particularly grim. "Dare you say that again?"
"Did I say something wrong?"
Josephine met his gaze and felt the anger in Stuart's eyes.
Josephine had only said a few words, and she hadn't even mentioned Doris, yet Stuart's reaction was so intense.
It showed how important Doris was to Stuart.
Josephine looked at Stuart's surging anger with a mocking expression.
The angrier Stuart got, the more it showed how much he cared about Doris, to the point where no one else could even mention her.
Stuart took a deep breath, but he couldn't suppress the anger in his heart.
Josephine's words hit him where they hurt, which was why he was so angry.
But what he showed was not just anger.
Stuart also had some inexplicable emotions that he couldn't distinguish.
At that moment, he was really angry.
He was so angry that he even wanted to strangle Josephine in front of him.
If Robin or anyone else had said those words to him, he wouldn't have been so angry.
But for some reason, if Josephine said it, Stuart would be particularly angry.
His anger even doubled.
They were facing off, neither willing to back down, when the door of the duty room was suddenly pushed open.
A duty doctor walked in and was instantly dumbfounded by the scene before him.
Josephine pushed Stuart away in an instant.
The doctor apologized and turned to leave.
Josephine closed her eyes and took a deep breath, adjusting her emotions.
Stuart still held her arm and said, "Josephine, although we are a couple, don't forget that we are only in a business marriage. Regardless of who I love or whether I can be intimate with you, you have no right to interfere."
Josephine didn't want to talk to him, so she shook him off and walked out first.
Stuart followed her.
Josephine's eyes were already red, and she looked at him angrily. "What do you want?"
Stuart suppressed all his emotions and looked particularly indifferent at this moment. "There's one more thing."
"Speak."
Stuart said, "Tell Liam to accept Doris's brother to work at the hospital."
Josephine looked at him with amusement. "What do you think a hospital is? Are you joking with people's lives?"
"No doctor starts with exceptional medical skills, or should I say..."
Here, Stuart's face grew even colder, and he continued, "Do you want me to find out who slapped me?"
Stuart was threatening Josephine.
Josephine no longer cared about Doris, but Stuart always thought for Doris, and she couldn't help but feel uncomfortable.
But yesterday, Liam did hit Stuart.
Josephine thought for a moment before saying, "I'll talk to Liam, but he has to pass the exam to be hired."
Stuart knew that Josephine had already made a concession, and he nodded. "Okay, I'll pick you up at the Haustia Manor that night."
After Stuart left, Josephine returned to the office feeling exhausted and extremely frustrated.
What was she in Stuart's eyes?
What qualifications did she have to mention Doris, who was important to Stuart?
Stuart's cold attitude towards her was what she deserved.
After a while, Josephine's phone rang, and it was a message from Claudia about William.
It turned out that William had really gone to find Claudia.
Josephine thought of the first time they met when William helped her, and she sighed gently, replying to Claudia's message, asking her to communicate well with William.
In the afternoon, Liam brought documents to Josephine.
Josephine didn't look up until Liam was about to leave. "Wait," she said,
Liam turned around. "What's up?" he asked,
"About Ray working at the hospital..." Josephine began, her brow furrowed.
"You..." Liam immediately turned back, walking over to her desk.
"What happened? Did Doris talk to you? How dare she?" Josephine shook her head.
"No, it was Stuart."
"Stuart?" Liam's anger flared.
"That's even more ridiculous! How could he?"
Josephine said, "Forget about him. Don't you have an entrance exam? Let him try. If he fails, he should give up."
"What did Stuart say to you? Did he pressure you?"
Josephine smiled. "What can he do to me? If he could really pressure me, I would have let Ray take the job directly. Don't worry, at worst, Cliff will help me."
Despite her words, Liam was still furious. "How could he do such a thing? Has Doris blinded his judgment?"
"Alright, alright," Josephine said, handing him a piece of candy. "Calm down."
Liam took the candy. "Got it."
Liam returned to his office and called for the department head, Adam.
After explaining the situation to Adam, he felt conflicted, as he had made a promise to someone else. But now that Liam had personally talked with him, he had no choice but to agree because the entire hospital belonged to Liam.
Reluctantly, Adam reached for a piece of candy on Liam's desk. "Give me this," he said.
Before Adam could finish his sentence, Liam slapped the back of his hand and quickly put the candy away. "If you want to eat, go buy it yourself."
Adam was shocked. "It's just a piece of candy. Why are you being so stingy?"
Liam said, "I have hypoglycemia, and this candy is a lifesaver for me."
"When did you develop this condition?" Adam grumbled.
Liam smiled helplessly and took out a box of imported chocolates from the drawer. "Here, take this."
Adam immediately laughed heartily. "This is more like it. But is your candy expensive? Or is it a limited edition? Why do you keep protecting it?"
After Adam left, Liam looked down at the ordinary piece of candy. He realized that he had indeed been protecting Josephine all these years.
At six o'clock in the evening, Josephine didn't expect Stuart actually to come and pick her up. She went downstairs and saw Stuart, still wearing a mask.
Stuart stood there with nothing to do,
his presence drawing a lot of attention.
Josephine didn't expect him to come, and the gesture almost surprised her. She smiled self-deprecatingly and walked towards Stuart.
They got in the car without saying a word.
It was only on the way that Stuart spoke, "I got these injuries during a business trip. Don't mention it to Cliff."
Josephine nodded. Stuart continued, "Cheer up, or Cliff will worry."
Josephine looked at him. "Remember to tell Cliff that we don't plan to have children, so he won't keep calling me, which annoys me."
