Chapter 313 The Gift Is Too Valuable

Andrew wished he could just whack him on the head with his cane. The Haustia family had descendants now; who needed Stuart anyway?

But he couldn't do it. He'd taken care of Stuart since he was a kid.

"Go home and look at your childhood photos! Jeffery has Josephine's eyes, but his nose, mouth, and chin are all yours!" Andrew said.

Stuart grinned like an idiot, "Really?"

If anyone else had said it, he might've doubted it, but Andrew's words were gospel to him.

"Don't you have eyes? Can't you see for yourself?"

Seeing Andrew getting mad, Stuart quickly explained, "The first thing I noticed about Jeffery was his purple eyes. Grandpa, I was so upset at the time, how could I have looked at him closely?"

"Look how smart Josephine is, coming up with a way to trick you," Andrew said, quite pleased. "Jeffery will definitely be smart too!"

Stuart was speechless. "Grandpa."

"Don't 'Grandpa' me! Your stupidity made Josephine sad and drove her away. I told you to treat her better and have a child sooner. Did you listen? And now you feel wronged? What were you doing all this time?"

"Yes, I know I was wrong. I'm trying to find a way to get Josephine to forgive me."

"You better shape up! If you can't win Josephine back, I won't acknowledge you as my grandson. All my assets will go to Jeffery, and you won't get a cent!" Andrew then told the driver, "Drive!"

The car quickly drove away, and Stuart thought to himself, 'I want to give my assets to Jeffery too, but I'm afraid he won't want them.'

Just as he was thinking this, his phone rang. Seeing it was Josephine calling, Stuart quickly answered.

As soon as Josephine saw the call go through, she hurriedly asked, "Has Grandpa left?"

Stuart said, "Yes, he's gone."

"Oh," Josephine sounded anxious, "What should we do?"

Stuart quickly asked, "What's wrong?"

"Come upstairs first."

Stuart hurried upstairs and entered the hospital room, finding Josephine holding the gift that Andrew had given.

Josephine handed it over, "Can you return this to Grandpa for me?"

tuart hesitated, "But this is a gift from Grandpa to Jeffery. Why return it?"

"It's too valuable," Josephine said. "Do you know what's inside?"

Stuart shook his head.

Whatever Andrew wanted to give Jeffery, he didn't care.

Even if Andrew wanted to give the entire Haustia Family to Jeffery, Stuart would support it.

Jeffery was his and Josephine's child. Just thinking about it made Stuart incredibly happy.

But seeing the gift was thin, it probably wasn't too valuable. Andrew would definitely consider Josephine's feelings.

He went, "Value doesn't matter; it's a symbol of Grandpa's love. Just take it."

"Inside is a bank card and two access cards."

Stuart took a look and explained, "These are for two villas."

Hearing this, Josephine was even more reluctant, "Then you take it back... Forget it, when Jeffery gets better, I'll return it to Grandpa myself."

Stuart directly put the items back into the envelope and stuffed it under Jeffery's pillow. "It's for Jeffery, you have no right to decide."

"For Jeffery, it's the thought that counts. Why give him two villas? And who knows how much money is in the bank account? No, I have to call Grandpa," Josephine said helplessly.

"Don't call him. If he knows you want to return it, he'll be angry."

Josephine asked, "Then what should I do? How about I secretly give it to you, and you don't tell Grandpa?"

"What do you take me for? Do you think I would want Jeffery's things?" Stuart looked displeased. "I didn't expect you to think of me this way."

Josephine was at a loss for words. Was Stuart feeling wronged now? For now, she had no choice but to accept it, but she was determined to return it to Andrew later.

Giving gifts during the Starlight Festival was a gesture of goodwill. Even if Andrew gave Jeffery forty or fifty thousand dollars, Josephine wouldn't have said anything. But two villas and a bank card? Clearly, the card has a lot of money in it. Otherwise, why would the bank card be placed together with the access cards?

Such a valuable gift—how could Josephine possibly accept it?

"Grandpa likes Jeffery, you know that," Stuart said. "He's always treated you like his own granddaughter. He likes your kid, and you can't just refuse his gift."

Josephine stopped talking, deciding not to argue any further. She still couldn't accept the gift, though.

Seeing her go quiet, Stuart turned to Jeffery, "Jeffery, do you like Great-Grandpa?"

Jeffery nodded. "Yes."

Stuart felt a warmth in his heart, "Great-Grandpa likes you too. I... I also like you, Jeffery."

Jeffery glanced at him but didn't say anything.

Stuart didn't expect Jeffery to say he liked him right away, but it still stung a bit when he didn't respond.

Then Josephine said, "You should go home. I'll stay with Jeffery."

"I'm not leaving," Stuart said.

"It's the 30th today. Go home and be with Grandpa," Josephine insisted. "There's nothing for you to do here."

"Even so, I'm not bailing on you. I still gotta bring you meals," Stuart said, fearing she might push him out. He quickly turned to Jeffery, "Jeffery doesn't want me to leave, right?"

"Then leave in the afternoon," Josephine said. "If you're worried, come back tomorrow. Tonight is the 30th; you should go home and be with Grandpa."

"It's fine, I already talked to Grandpa."

"Stuart," Josephine's tone became a bit stern, "What did you promise me last night?"

Stuart felt a bit guilty. He had said he would leave yesterday and even hugged Josephine, but in the end, he didn't leave.

"But I'm really worried about you being here alone."

"What's there to worry about?" Josephine said, "If you don't leave, I'll get angry."

Seeing her expression, Stuart realized she was genuinely upset. He had no choice but to say, "I'll leave in the afternoon."

Not long after, Liam arrived to deliver lunch. Now, even the task of bringing meals was taken from Stuart. After lunch, Josephine sent them all away.

Stuart didn't want to leave, but he was afraid of making Josephine angry.

On the way back, he received a call from Vincent. After hearing a sentence, his brows furrowed, "When?"

"Tonight's flight," Vincent said. "Just in time to come back for the Starlight Festival."

"Got it."

Vincent asked, "Aren't you going to pick her up?"

Stuart said, "What about her family? If it's inconvenient, I'll send a driver."

Vincent laughed, "Are you really that clueless or just pretending? She asked me to tell you because she wants you to pick her up."

"I don't have time."

Vincent asked, "Do you really like Josephine now?"

Stuart responded, "You're just catching on? I thought you clocked that five years back."

"Alright, I get it," Vincent said. "If you and her can truly patch things up, that'd be awesome. I won't hold you back. It's the Starlight Festival, plenty to handle at home."

After ending the call, Stuart tossed his phone aside as Angela was on her way back.

He couldn't go pick her up. If it were before, Stuart might have felt a bit guilty. But now, his mind was full of Josephine, and he didn't care about anyone else.

Five years ago, when he was desperately searching for Josephine, he realized that she was the only one in his heart. Everyone else didn't matter.

What he thought was affection for Angela was probably just gratitude for saving his life.

More embarrassingly, Stuart recalled that he claimed to have a first love just to attract Josephine's attention. He clearly liked Josephine, but because she saw him as an enemy, he awkwardly opposed her at every turn.

Whenever he thought of his foolishness back then, Stuart wished he could travel back to his teenage years and strangle himself.

When he returned to the Haustia Manor, the household staff were already preparing dinner. Andrew saw him and got angry.

Stuart said, "Grandpa, Josephine thinks the gift you gave is too valuable and wants to return it."

"It's all because of you!" Andrew fumed at the sight of him. "I can't even give Jeffery a proper gift!"

"When Jeffery gets discharged, Josephine will surely bring him by. Grandpa, when that time comes, please share some kind words on my behalf."

Andrew hurled the photo album he was clutching at Stuart, "When will you bring Jeffery home for me?"
