Chapter 375 Don't Tell Him
Stuart and his crew had some serious connections. Back in the day, they managed to get into a military base for training through some special hookups.
It almost caused a big mess, and the top brass at the base freaked out.
So, they quickly hushed it up. Luckily, nothing major happened after that.
But because of this, Stuart and the others had to keep it on the down-low.
So, for years, no one really talked about it. Stuart was the only one who got a lifesaver out of it.
Laura kept thinking that Stuart might've been set up.
Now, hearing Robin put it like that, she knew it wasn't just a hunch; Stuart was definitely set up.
Angela had serious nerve to fake something like that. No one knew who really saved Stuart and his crew back then. If it was Josephine, that would be wild.
Laura wondered, if it was really Josephine who saved Stuart and he mistook Angela for his lifesaver, how would Stuart react?
But thinking about it, Stuart would probably be more hurt, right?
'Forget it, forget it, it's just something to think about. If it were true, would Stuart still be alive?' Laura thought to herself.
Laura waited for Jair's news, trying to stay calm.
Meanwhile, Jair was super surprised to get Laura's call.
Angela tricked them? What really went down back then?
He tried calling Stuart, but the line was busy as Stuart was still talking to Steven about it.
Hearing the news, Stuart was so shocked he couldn't speak for a few seconds.
Until Steven asked, "You still there?"
Stuart thought he misheard. He asked, "What did you just say?"
Steven had to repeat, "Laura and I went to see Robin. He admitted that he and Angela teamed up to fool you back then. Angela isn't your lifesaver."
Stuart took a deep breath, "Got it."
Steven said, "So, we don't need to prep for the project anymore?"
Stuart sneered, "What do you think?"
Even Steven couldn't help but shiver at that laugh.
Great, the Lopez Family would be in deep trouble. Stuart's tone suggested he wouldn't let Angela off easily.
Stuart hung up on Steven and was dazed for a few seconds before his phone rang again.
This time it was Jair calling. Stuart answered absentmindedly, "What's up?"
Jair said, "Laura called me and said..."
"I know."
"Good that you know," Jair said. "What I'm worried about now is, if I remember right, both Josephine and Angela were there at the time. If the person who saved you wasn't Angela, then could it be..."
Jair didn't even dare to say Josephine's name.
Stuart's heart tightened. He asked with difficulty, "Why did you all so easily believe Angela's words back then?"
Jair said, "Who would doubt that?"
"Okay, let's end the call for now."
Closing his eyes after hanging up, Stuart couldn't shake off the sharp pain in his heart.
Angela wasn't the one who saved him back then. So all these years, treating Angela as his lifesaver and feeling indebted to her was so foolish.
And then there was the possibility Jair mentioned. If the person who saved him was really Josephine, Stuart didn't dare to think any further. But some things, he still had to do.
Stuart didn't dare to confirm this matter, but Jair would definitely dig into it.
Jair couldn't even focus on his confession now. He went back to the military base to check records from about ten years ago.
After digging through the records, Jair was almost sure that Josephine was the one who saved Stuart back then! But why hadn't Josephine said anything all these years? She and Stuart were married for three years!
Jair thought for a moment and decided to call Josephine.
Josephine, who had been occupied earlier, coincidentally emerged from the lab just as her phone started ringing.
She answered, "Jair?"
Jair didn't waste any time and asked, "Josephine, do you remember the time before you got married when Stuart went to the military base for training and you were there too?"
Josephine was puzzled, "I remember. Why are you suddenly asking about this? Wasn't it supposed to be confidential by the military base?"
"I just want to know, when Stuart was in danger and passed out, who saved him?"
Josephine asked, "Can I talk about it now? Back then, the military base leader told me not to spread it."
"You can tell me."
Josephine said, "I wouldn't say I saved him. I just turned off the device and pulled him out. Then I went to get help. You all know what happened afterward."
Jair was silent. Things were indeed as he thought. If Angela wasn't the one who saved them, then she must have taken advantage of Josephine's absence to pose as the lifesaver.
For a moment, Jair didn't know what to say.
Josephine asked, "What's wrong? This happened so long ago. Why are you asking about it now?"
"Have you never mentioned this to Stuart?"
Josephine said, "The military base instructed us to keep it confidential. Besides, what's there to say about this?"
Jair went silent as he thought, 'Josephine, you really are disciplined!'
Jair couldn't hold back. "Are you really that rigid? You saved Stuart's life! What's wrong with telling him?"
Josephine said, "I didn't expect him to repay me, so why mention it?"
Jair said, "You two always had conflicts back then. Didn't you think of using this to ease things?"
Josephine said, "If he treated me well because of this, it wouldn't be what I wanted."
Jair was silent, speechless once again. He understood Josephine's perspective, but it had led to missed opportunities and numerous misunderstandings. What a shame!
Jair thought he should say something nice to Stuart. He said, "Do you know? Angela took credit for your actions."
Josephine was stunned, "What do you mean?"
"Don't you think Stuart is very tolerant and indulgent towards Angela? It's all because she claimed to have saved his life before."
Josephine was silent. She suddenly felt the urge to curse.
After a pause, she asked, "Wait, Stuart believed all this time that Angela was the one who saved him?"
"Yes, Stuart always thought Angela was his lifesaver, so he helped The Lopez Family."
Josephine even laughed, "So that's how it is."
Jair said, "He was deceived too. After all, you never mentioned it. Who would have thought Angela would lie about something like this?"
Josephine said, "I understand. Thank you for telling me this."
Jair said, "Stuart only knows Angela lied, but he doesn't know that the person who saved him was actually you. Josephine, if he finds out, he'll definitely feel terrible."
"Don't tell him."
Jair was stunned, "What?"
