Chapter 240 Seeing Jeffery with Your Own Eyes, You'll Know He's Not Your Child
Josephine got what Laura was hinting at; they couldn't let Emily get too cocky.
They had to stop her from getting engaged to the Campbell Family.
If Emily had a powerful ally, she might actually grab the Kalmien Family's assets.
Josephine was confused. "But the Campbell Family is so prestigious. They wouldn't let their members just take other people's stuff, right?"
Laura shook her head. "You don't get it. When it comes to money, reputation means nothing. Plus, I seriously think Emily's trying to marry rich, which is why she's all over your parents."
Josephine reassured her, "Don't worry, my grandparents set everything up before they passed. The company's shareholders will keep an eye on things and let me know if anything's up."
"That's good," Laura said, "But Emily must be something else to get the Campbell Family to like her."
"Forget about her," Josephine said, "I just want to finish my work and have Jeffery come over."
"Alright," Laura said, "I'm ready to take care of Jeffery! But watch out for Stuart and Robin. What awful men, and you just had to run into them!"
Honestly, Josephine thought Stuart was okay; it was Robin who was the real problem.
This time around, even though Stuart was still bugging her, he was more careful.
Once Jeffery showed up, Stuart would back off for good.
Josephine was looking forward to the good times ahead.
She was thinking about seeing Jeffery in a few days, so even though she was swamped, she was in a good mood.
But that mood took a nosedive when she saw Stuart.
Yesterday it was Rex, now it was Stuart.
These two just wouldn't quit.
When she saw Rex, Josephine even greeted him.
But when she saw Stuart, she straight-up ignored him.
She had just left the lab, exhausted from a long day, and just wanted to crash.
"Josephine," Stuart called out, "Done for the day?"
Josephine stared at the elevator button, not saying a word.
"I heard you've been super busy these past couple of days," Stuart said, watching her. "No matter how busy you are, you need to eat and take care of yourself. Don't overdo it."
The elevator doors opened, and Josephine stepped in, with Stuart right behind her.
Josephine raised her hand. "Mr. Haustia, I think I've made myself clear. I have a boyfriend and a son, and I'm very happy. Are you trying to be the guy who ruins someone else's relationship by pestering me like this?"
"No," Stuart quickly said, "But until you're married, I still have the right to pursue you, right?"
"Who you want to pursue is your business," Josephine said, "But how I handle things is mine."
With that, she looked away and ignored Stuart.
Every time Stuart saw Josephine, he felt a mix of joy and pain.
He wanted to see her, but her cold, indifferent eyes made him very sad.
When Josephine reached the first floor, she walked out of the elevator and headed to a nearby supermarket.
As for Stuart, she completely ignored him.
Seeing her walk so fast, Stuart felt frustrated and was about to follow her into the supermarket when his phone rang.
He answered it, talking business, but his eyes stayed on the supermarket entrance.
Josephine's period was coming, and she hadn't stocked up on sanitary pads, so she came to buy some.
When she came out of the supermarket, she immediately spotted Stuart.
He hadn't followed her in, so she thought he had left.
Josephine glanced at him and quickly looked away.
She was about to head back to her place, keeping her distance from Stuart.
But then, out of nowhere, something crazy happened!
A guy with a knife suddenly charged at Josephine like a maniac!
Josephine's reflexes kicked in before her brain could even process it, and she dodged instinctively.
But the guy was clearly after her. Seeing her dodge, he came at her again, looking wild.
"Watch out!"
Josephine turned to run, but someone grabbed her arm.
The next second, she was pulled into a broad chest.
She dropped everything she was holding, pushed him hard, and then grabbed him randomly. "Run!"
Who knew if that guy was nuts!
Stuart was pulled along, and they ran about thirty feet. When they looked back, the guy hadn't caught up.
But he was still standing at the supermarket entrance, holding the knife.
Josephine saw a little girl, about five or six years old, about to come out of the supermarket. The guy saw her and ran towards her with the knife.
Josephine felt a tightness in her heart and, without thinking about anything else, lifted her leg and ran towards the girl.
But she was pulled back, and tall Stuart had already rushed over.
Josephine didn't waste any time, took out her phone, and called the cops while running.
Suddenly, the crowd's gasps and the little girl's cries filled the air.
Josephine was super nervous. When she got there, Stuart had already grabbed the guy's arm. She took the chance to pick up the child and ran a few steps to the side.
The child's mom came out a few minutes later, seeing the chaos outside, she was terrified.
Josephine quickly handed the child back to her and anxiously looked at Stuart.
Luckily, Stuart was pretty skilled. He quickly disarmed the guy, tossed the knife aside, and locked his arms behind his back, making him unable to move.
The supermarket security guards, having heard about the incident outside, finally ran out.
Stuart handed the guy over to them and walked quickly towards Josephine, grabbing her arm and looking her up and down. "Are you okay?"
Josephine hadn't spoken yet when she saw Stuart's eyes turn red.
Stuart yelled, "Are you crazy? Rushing forward in such a situation! What if you got hurt?"
An elderly lady nearby said, "Yes, miss, you need to consider your husband's feelings! It was too dangerous! Luckily, your husband caught that madman!"
Josephine expressionlessly removed his hand and turned to leave.
Stuart picked up the shopping bag she had just dropped and chased after her.
Stuart handed her the bag. "Here, it's yours."
Josephine took it, looked into the distance, and said, "Thank you."
"Where's Otis? Isn't he supposed to be looking out for you? Where is he?"
Josephine said, "He went to handle some stuff."
"Alright, from today on, I'll be your driver and bodyguard," Stuart said.
"Stuart." Josephine took out her phone. "I know what you're thinking. Are you suspecting that my son is your kid?"
Stuart didn't say anything.
"Even when I told you his birthday, you didn't believe me," Josephine added.
Josephine showed him her phone. "I think you'll believe it when you see it with your own eyes."
Stuart looked at the phone.
On her phone was a picture of a little boy.
He was super cute.
Stuart glanced at it, and in that instant, his whole heart ached!
