Chapter 70 Everyone Wants Him to Get a Divorce
Jair raised his hand to check his watch. He said, "This isn't the place to talk. Follow them and get settled in first. I'll find you later."
After finishing up here, Jair returned to his office and called Stuart.
Stuart watched the car drive away from the hospital, standing in the cold wind for a long time. His anger didn't subside; instead, it grew stronger.
His phone rang. It was Doris.
He suddenly remembered he was supposed to pick up Doris.
When he arrived downstairs at Doris's place, Doris smiled sweetly. She said gently, "Are you too busy? If you don't have time, I can go by myself. You don't have to pick me up specially."
Seeing her face, Stuart's anger slowly subsided.
He was driving when Jair called, and they hadn't yet arrived at the company.
"What happened between you and Josephine? Why did she say she wants a divorce?" Jair got straight to the point.
Stuart's anger flared up instantly. He asked, "She told you she wants a divorce?"
"She came to our camp for training. I just saw her," Jair said, "So what's going on? Haven't you broken up with Doris yet?"
Doris was sitting right next to him.
Stuart said, "I'll call you back later."
He hung up and glanced to the side.
Tears welled up in Doris's eyes as she looked at him sadly. She said, "Stuart, I know it's wrong to ruin your family, but I can't control my feelings for you."
Stuart's mind was filled with Josephine telling Jair she wanted a divorce.
He said, "It's not your fault. Don't overthink it."
He sped up and soon arrived at the company.
After parting ways with Doris, he went to his office and called Jair back. He impatiently asked, "What exactly did she tell you?"
Jair said, "She said you have someone else you like; there's no love between you two; it would be better to separate sooner rather than later."
Stuart said angrily, "Doesn't she know this is a business marriage? How many couples in arranged marriages have feelings for each other?"
"Calm down," Jair said, "This is partly your fault."
"My fault?" Stuart said, "You didn't see her being flirtatious with other men!"
Jair was puzzled. He asked, "Josephine isn't that kind of person, right?"
Stuart said, "I saw it with my own eyes, so it's true."
Jair sighed. He remarked, "If you both feel this way, what's the point of staying married?"
"That's how arranged marriages are," Stuart said, "Have you ever seen a couple in an arranged marriage who genuinely want to be together?"
Jair asked, "Then why are you angry?"
Stuart said, "I'm not angry."
Jair said, "Stuart, we've known each other for so many years. I know you well. Are you angry because Josephine mentioned divorce, or because she was flirtatious with other men? I understand you want to save face, but if you're playing around outside, then to be fair..."
"I said I'm not angry." Stuart interrupted him. He retorted, "Do you think there's any fairness in our marriage? Josephine married me, and the Kalmien family got so many benefits!"
Jair said, "In that sense, it's not very fair to you."
Stuart said, "She wants to take the benefits and run? No way!"
"Are you really so calculative?" Jair was surprised. He pointed out, "You donate more to charity every year than this amount."
Stuart said angrily, "That's different."
Jair said, "I think your emotions are off about this. You're usually calm and rational. Why are you so agitated today?"
Stuart was stunned.
Jair continued, "If you don't get divorced, your investment will continue. From my perspective, a divorce would stop the losses in time."
Stuart said, "You don't understand."
He said Jair didn't understand, but he didn't understand either.
He didn't understand why he was so angry.
He didn't understand why Josephine had changed so much.
Jair sighed. He continued to ask, "So what do you mean? Continue the marriage?"
Stuart said, "There will be a divorce, but not now."
Jair asked, "Why? Wouldn't it be better to get it over with sooner?"
"This matter can only be decided by me," Stuart said, "Does she want a divorce? I won't let her have her way."
Jair was silent for a few seconds before saying, "Stuart, this is the first time I've realized you're such a petty man, especially towards women."
Stuart said angrily, "Are you still my brother or not?"
Jair said, "Forget it. I think you're emotionally unstable. Let's not talk about this. But I still advise you to seriously consider the divorce."
Stuart was so angry he almost threw his phone.
A few minutes later, Robin called and said, "Stuart, I've thought of a way for you to get a divorce..."
Before Robin could finish, Stuart yelled, "Get out!"
This time, he really smashed his phone.
Why did everyone want him to get a divorce?
He wouldn't let Josephine have her way!
All day, Stuart was in a bad mood, and the staff around him didn't dare to speak.
Josephine, on the other hand, had a fulfilling day at the military base.
The medical team had just arrived at the military base, so they couldn't start their rigorous training on the first day.
So they first toured the camp and had lunch with the soldiers.
In the afternoon, they watched the soldiers train on the field.
Josephine was familiar with all this and felt quite fulfilled by the end of the day.
Josephine loved being a doctor, and she also enjoyed life at the military base.
She didn't feel anything special until a colleague said to her, "Dr. Kalmien, a lot of people are looking at you."
Josephine then remembered what Stuart had said.
She knew she looked pretty good, but she never paid much attention to her appearance.
However, she also knew Stuart had a point.
So she put on a mask, but her cool demeanor and tall, striking figure still drew a lot of attention.
At dinner, Jair sat across from her with his tray.
Josephine greeted him like everyone else, "Good evening, Major."
Jair, mindful of the others around, didn't say much. After her colleagues finished eating and left, he said, "I heard from Stuart that you also have someone you like?"
Josephine frowned. She said in disbelief, "He said that?"
Jair said, "He said you were flirting with another man. Josephine, if you have someone you like, you can't blame Stuart for being unfaithful in the marriage. You both share responsibility."
Josephine laughed. She questioned, "Do you believe that?"
Jair said, "I don't think you're that kind of person, but Stuart said he saw it with his eyes."
Josephine found it utterly ridiculous.
Even Jair knew she wasn't that kind of person, but Stuart had slandered her more than once.
Josephine said, "Let him be. As long as we can get divorced, he can think whatever he wants."
Jair frowned. He strongly advised, "Divorce isn't the best solution. Josephine, since it's an arranged marriage, you also need to consider the family business."
Josephine smiled. She gently replied, "Thank you, Mr. Cook. I'll handle it."
At 5:30 the next morning, the wake-up call sounded.
Josephine and the others put on their combat uniforms and ran downstairs to assemble.
When she saw who was standing at the front of the line, Josephine's eyes widened.
