Chapter 552 If It Were Someone Else, I Wouldn't Care

Kathy said, "I don't really follow celebrities, no matter how good they are..."

As she spoke, she became embarrassed.

Gerald looked down and asked her, "What?"

Kathy buried her face in his chest, "In my heart, you are the best."

From the beginning, Kathy liked Gerald with a bit of admiration.

Later, it turned into the genuine feelings a woman has for a man.

But actually, a woman's affection for a man often carried a bit of admiration, and that was the most fatal.

No man disliked being admired by his own woman.

Maybe men inherently had a bit of chauvinism.

In any case, being told this by the woman he loved, Gerald felt extremely satisfied.

He said, "In my heart, you are also the best."

After the sweet talk, the two looked into each other's eyes and naturally started kissing.

They took a nap, and when they woke up in the afternoon, they didn't move.

It was a rare day off, and they were both lazy, just cuddling in bed and whispering to each other.

"I always feel that Ulysses has been acting a bit strange these past few days." Kathy brought up Ulysses.

Gerald asked casually, "What's wrong?"

"He asked me a few days ago what girls like, and yesterday he said he was accompanying a classmate to the doctor. Is it possible that he's in love?"

"If he's in love, it will be okay," Gerald said. "He's almost twenty years old, he can make his own decisions."

"You, as a father, don't seem to care about your son at all."

"At his age, he's a man now. When I was his age, I was already a graduate student."

Kathy knew a bit about Gerald's past.

She knew he had skipped grades, so he applied for graduate school early.

"But in my eyes, he's still a child," Kathy said. "After all, I'm his stepmother, and he's a boy, so there are some things I can't ask him. So, you should send him a message and ask him later."

"What's there to ask? It's normal to fall in love. Unlike me, this is my first time."

Hearing him say that, Kathy felt a wave of sweetness in her heart.

But sometimes, women could be quite petty.

Kathy said, "First time? I don't believe it. What about you and Ulysses' mother..."

"My marriage with her was arranged by the family. We weren't in love, just compatible in temperament. She was a good woman, with a good temper and personality, but her health wasn't great. She passed away not long after giving birth to Ulysses. Although I didn't love her, I always respected her."

Hearing this, Kathy's feelings towards that woman became more complicated.

She wasn't jealous or resentful.

Her timing with Gerald was just right.

If it had been ten years earlier, when Ulysses' mother was still alive, she wouldn't have had the chance to be with Gerald.

With Gerald's character, even if he didn't like his wife, he would stay with her out of responsibility and never give another woman a chance.

It was this kind of Gerald that Kathy admired and loved.

Seeing Kathy not speaking, Gerald sighed, "I can't change my past. But, Kathy, my future is all yours."

This almost brought tears to Kathy's eyes.

She said, "I know. I'm very content, Gerald, honey, thank you."

"Silly girl," Gerald said, kissing her. "I should be the one thanking you. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have known I could love someone like this and experience the feeling of being in love."

"I didn't expect it either," Kathy thought for a moment and said, "I went on blind dates before. Those men thought I was too educated. One even said I should buy a house with him and pay the mortgage together, and that women should support their husbands and educate their children."

Gerald asked, "What happened then?"

"I didn't like him from the way he talked. He called me a few times later, but I refused."

Gerald laughed, "That means we were destined to be together. If you were with someone else, I wouldn't have had a chance."

"I just wanted to tell you, I met a lot of absurd people on those blind dates."

"Oh, really?"

They talked a lot, and before they knew it, time had passed, and Kathy was hungry.

Looking at the time, it was almost seven o'clock.

It was time for dinner.

Kathy went to prepare dinner and urged Gerald to call Ulysses.

Ulysses was busy and told the person next to him to wait a moment before answering the phone, "Dad?"

Gerald asked him, "You left home this morning and have been busy ever since. What's keeping you so occupied? You're busier than I am now."

Ulysses said, "I found another job."

Gerald said, "Aren't you in love?"

"How did you know?"

"Really?" Gerald was a bit surprised. "Are you really in love?"

"Not exactly," Ulysses said, a bit embarrassed. "I'm pursuing someone. I took another job to buy her a birthday gift and confess to her."

Ulysses was always straightforward.

There were no barriers between him and Gerald.

So when Gerald asked, Ulysses told him.

"Alright, handle your own affairs," Gerald said. "But don't overwork yourself. If you need money, I can lend it to you."

Ulysses said, "Thanks, but I don't need it. I can earn it myself."

Actually, Ulysses already had many assets in his name, and his bank account balance was unknown.

But since high school, he had been working part-time, and everything he used was bought with his own money.

He enjoyed this kind of life.

None of his high school or college classmates knew about his family background.

Instead, they all thought he was obsessed with working, spending all his time either studying for scholarships or working to earn money.

Among the rich kids, he was quite unique.

After hanging up, Gerald stood at the kitchen door and told Kathy about Ulysses.

Kathy was happy to hear it and asked, "Did you ask what the girl's name is, how old she is, what major she's studying, and if she's pretty?"

Gerald said, "Why would I ask that?"

Kathy smiled wryly, "Then what did you ask?"

"I asked if he had enough money and told him he could borrow from me if he needed it."

Kathy was exasperated, "What kind of father are you? Never mind, I'll call him later."

"Don't worry about it," Gerald said. "He never had a hard time growing up. When he was in high school, I sent him to a military base for training. He became much more mature after that. Now, we don't need to worry about him."

"But we should still show some concern," Kathy said. "Even though relationships at this age might not last until marriage, they will definitely influence his views on marriage."

"I didn't think that far," Gerald said. "If you want to ask, go ahead. I see you're the worrying type."

Kathy glared at him, "It's because he's your son. If it were someone else, I wouldn't care."

Gerald hugged her, "I know, thank you."

After finishing her tasks, Kathy sent a message to Ulysses.
