Chapter 524 Don't be Afraid!

The first time he went to his girlfriend's house, Gerald felt that he should prepare some gifts.

Although during this time, he would also prepare gifts for Kathy.

But visiting her home was different.

He scrolled through his phone, not daring to ask Josephine.

It was only now that he realized that when it came to his relationship, Josephine was someone who couldn't keep a secret.

If there was anything between him and Kathy, or if he asked Josephine for advice on what gift to give, the whole family would know by the next day.

Even Ulysses would tease him.

So this time, Gerald didn't plan to ask Josephine.

He would handle it himself.

No matter what he gave, Kathy would be very happy.

In this regard, Kathy was particularly good at providing him with emotional support.

In fact, his job was really busy and tiring. Sometimes, when he had a date with Kathy, he would go over exhausted.

But as long as he saw her smile, Gerald felt that all his fatigue would disappear.

This made Gerald look forward to the future when he and Kathy would be together, imagining how happy those days would be.

Before going to bed, Gerald had already decided on the gift.

He knew Kathy lived alone.

After the last incident, her father had lost interest in doing business and went straight to the best nursing home after being discharged from the hospital.

On one hand, he continued to recuperate there, and on the other hand, he cultivated his mind and body, living a peaceful retirement.

Gerald later learned that the place where Kathy lived had relatively good security.

She was his girlfriend, so Gerald had to worry about these things.

The next day, Kathy took a leave from her boss. She usually got off work at 5:30, but she left at 4:00.

She went to buy groceries first and got home by 5:00.

Gerald wouldn't arrive until after 6:00, so she had more than enough time.

She was about to change her clothes when she heard the doorbell ring.

She was surprised, thinking Gerald had arrived so early.

But before opening the door, she habitually asked, "Who is it?"

After all, being single and living alone, basic safety precautions were necessary.

The person outside said, "We're from the renovation team. The downstairs neighbor reported that your bathroom is leaking, so we're here to check."

Some parts of this community were newly built, and some residents moved in late, so indeed, some homes were still being renovated.

Hearing her home leaking, Kathy quickly said, "Sorry, let me call the property management to confirm."

The person outside said, "Okay."

Kathy definitely wouldn't casually open the door for people outside, especially since she was alone at home. Who knew what could happen?

The property management quickly answered, and Kathy explained the situation. The property management said, "Indeed, the downstairs is being renovated."

Kathy said, "They said my bathroom is leaking and want to come in, but I'm not comfortable. Can someone from the property management come over?"

The property management was a bit troubled. "Our community has an event today, and everyone is out helping. How about this, when they come back, I'll send them over."

Kathy had no choice but to say, "Okay, please come as soon as possible."

After hanging up, she sent a message to Gerald, explaining the situation and telling him not to worry, dinner might be a bit late.

Then she went to open the door.

Two men in work uniforms stood outside. Before entering, they professionally put on shoe covers.

Gerald received the message just as he was about to leave work.

He thought he should go over early to help Kathy with cooking.

He couldn't let Kathy do everything alone.

Seeing her message, Gerald felt it was unsafe and wanted to go over to check.

After all, Kathy was alone at home, and two strangers entering posed a safety risk, no matter what they were there for.

He drove over quickly.

He had registered his car with the property management before, so he went straight in.

As he went upstairs, Gerald felt inexplicably uneasy.

In fact, he had felt uncomfortable the whole way, so he drove very fast.

When he reached the floor, the elevator doors opened, and Gerald quickly stepped out, raising his hand to knock on the door.

But he hesitated, put his hand down, took out his phone, and called Kathy.

The phone rang, but no one answered.

Gerald suddenly heard a faint sound.

He took a deep breath, quickly recalling the fingerprint lock code Kathy had casually mentioned to him.

He hadn't paid much attention at the time, but thanks to his photographic memory, he remembered it now.

He quickly entered the code, pressed the door handle, and the door opened.

The moment the door opened, Gerald heard a scream.

"Kathy!"

He felt a surge of tension and rushed in, seeing a man lying in the living room.

The noise was coming from the bedroom.

Gerald's eyes widened in anger and fear as he rushed over.

What he saw made his anger surge, and fear gripped his heart.

"Kathy!"

Kathy was lying on the floor, breathing heavily. Gerald rushed over and held her in his arms: "Are you okay?"

Kathy barely opened her eyes to look at him, raising her hand. Gerald then noticed her palm was covered in blood.

"I'll take you to the hospital!"

"No..." Kathy used all her strength to grab his clothes: "Be careful."

Gerald quickly turned around and saw another man in the bedroom.

The man had blood on his head and was trying to stand up, swaying.

Gerald, holding Kathy, kicked the man, sending him crashing into the wall and collapsing.

"Call the cops." Kathy's voice was weak.

Gerald, holding her, went to another bedroom. "Tell me, are you hurt anywhere else..."

He asked while taking out his phone.

He was worried Kathy had other injuries.

Kathy shook her head.

Gerald was relieved, called the police, and then looked at her palm.

"I cut it myself."

The wound on her palm was thin and deep.

She had used an eyebrow razor to cut it.

Gerald did a simple bandage to stop the bleeding.

Then he noticed Kathy was burning up.

"I'll take you to the hospital."

"No." Kathy suppressed her voice. "Don't go to the hospital."

"Kathy."

"They... sprayed me with a drug."

Kathy looked at him.

Gerald's heart raced. Kathy's eyes were like a pool of spring water, stirring his heart.

"It's okay, don't be afraid, I'm here." Gerald held her. "The hospital can handle it. I'll take you to my friend's place, don't worry."

The police arrived quickly, arrested the two men, and took them for questioning.

But Kathy was the victim, so Gerald explained to them, and one officer accompanied them to the hospital.

On the way to the hospital, the officer drove while Gerald held Kathy in the back, constantly comforting her.

The officer couldn't help but ask, "Are you... Mr. Clarence?"
