Chapter 363 How Is Her Fate So Good
Esther snapped, "Who cares whose daughter she is! We're cutting ties, so let's make it clean!"
Todd chimed in, "If that family finds out how you treat your adoptive parents, I wonder what they'll think. Ungrateful, selfish, greedy—if they want her, they can have her. I don't give a damn!"
Esther turned to Stuart, "What about our family's shares? Do they have anything to do with her?"
Stuart responded, "Forget about those shares. They mean nothing to The Clarence Family."
"The Clarence Family? Who are they?"
Stuart said, "Isn't your adopted daughter married to someone from The Campbell Family?"
Esther nodded, "Yeah! If it weren't for you, The Campbell Family wouldn't be in such a mess. Stuart, I was once your elder. Can you let them go?"
Stuart didn't answer, just asked, "Do you know who backs The Campbell Family? They've done so many bad things because they have support."
"Well..." Todd said, "I know, they're backed by The Clarence Family, the big shots from Celestia Springs. But Stuart, Alfonso shouldn't have to pay with his life."
"Josephine is the daughter of The Clarence Family."
Todd's eyes widened in disbelief, "What? Are you serious?"
Esther looked shocked too, "What? The Clarence Family?"
Esther was the first to react, "No way! I don't believe it!"
Todd added, "Yeah, don't try to scare us with that!"
"Believe it or not, it's up to you," Stuart said. "Do you know whose kid Jeffery is?"
Todd said, "Speaking of that, Stuart, why are you so hung up on a woman like her? With your status, you could have anyone!"
Stuart, holding Josephine, said, "Because Jeffery is my kid too."
"You!" Esther shook her head, "You're crazy! You're willing to raise someone else's kid for her?"
"I mean, Jeffery is my biological son," Stuart said. "If you don't believe me, we can do a paternity test."
"Impossible!" Esther screamed, "I don't believe it!"
Todd instantly caught on, so he quickly changed his attitude, "Josephine, I told you before, whatever issues you have with Stuart, just talk them out. Why insist on a divorce? I know you have issues with me and your mom, but we're all doing this for your good."
He then looked at Stuart, "I advised her back then not to divorce you."
"The reason you advised her back then was probably because you were afraid your business would be affected," Stuart said. "Did you ever consider her feelings?"
Esther was still in shock and couldn't recover.
Stuart continued, "She is my wife, the mother of my child, and the daughter of The Clarence Family. She doesn't care about your measly possessions. From now on, Josephine has nothing to do with you!" He held Josephine and turned to leave.
Esther's body went limp, and she sat on the sofa, "How could this be? How could her fate be so good? I don't believe it, I don't believe it!"
Todd frowned, "Is she really the daughter of The Clarence Family? If that's the case, maybe we can..."
Outside the Kalmien Family, Josephine asked, "Why did you come?"
"Laura was worried and called me," Stuart said, gently wiping away the tear stains from Josephine's eyes. "Why did you come here to face this alone? You always knew they weren't good people."
"Maybe because, as a kid, I always hoped for some kind of parental love. I kept dreaming that one day, they'd actually like me."
Stuart hugged her tightly, his heart aching. "They will. Josephine, from now on, we all love you."
Josephine pushed him away, looking down. "Did you know all along?"
"Are you talking about Jeffery?" Stuart asked.
Josephine nodded.
Stuart sighed. "Honestly, it doesn't matter. I thought Jeffery was your child with someone else, but even then, I never considered letting you go. Whose child Jeffery is doesn't matter to me."
"Are you stupid?"
"Maybe," Stuart said with a small smile. "As long as he's your child, I'll care for him and love him. What's wrong with that?"
Josephine turned her face away, "How can you be so stupid?"
"Well, turns out you're even dumber than me," Stuart said, looking at her with deep affection. "You went through pregnancy and childbirth alone, raising him. Just thinking about not being there for you back then makes me..." He trailed off, tears welling up in his eyes.
Josephine's voice choked up, "I..."
Before she could finish, Stuart hugged her again. "Josephine, I know what you're thinking now. Having you by my side is enough for me. I'm not in a hurry; I can wait until the day you're willing to accept me."
"I'm sorry."
"I've done so many wrong things before, I don't even have time to repent. If you keep apologizing to me, what am I supposed to do?"
As they were talking, Todd came out, "Josephine!"
As soon as Josephine heard, she immediately said, "I don't want to see him."
Stuart quickly ushered her into the car.
Todd ran over, but the car had already driven away. He cursed under his breath and pulled out his phone, dialing a number. He spoke humbly for a few moments before hanging up.
After a while, he received a number. He quickly dialed it, cleared his throat, and put on a serious face.
When the call connected, Todd hurriedly said, "Hello, may I speak to Mr. Clarence?"
"Mr. Clarence is in a meeting. Who is this? I can take a message."
"Thank you. Please tell Mr. Clarence that I am Josephine's father, and he will understand."
After hanging up, he looked at Esther, who had come out, and nodded.
Esther asked, "Is it really possible?"
Todd said, "We can't count on Stuart, but The Clarence Family is a bigger backer! The grace of raising a child is greater than that of giving birth. The Clarence Family has a good reputation; they won't be as unreasonable as Josephine!"
"That's good!" Esther said, "But we don't have a good relationship with her. How do we explain that to them?"
"She got divorced, had Jeffery on her own, and kept it from us. We have every reason to be angry."
Esther said, "Yes, they should understand us."
"Exactly!"
As they were comforting each other, Todd's phone rang. He quickly said, "Stop talking, it's Gerald's call!"
Esther immediately got excited, "He called us first, that's a good sign!"
Todd hurriedly answered, "Mr. Clarence? I'm Josephine's father."
Gerald's voice was cold. "I heard from my secretary. Hello, I'm Gerald."
