Chapter 424 The One I Protect Is My Lover

Stuart was taken to the observation room. After the doctors and nurses left, Stuart looked at Ronald and said, "I'm fine, you can go back now."

Ronald replied, "I'll go prepare some daily necessities and bring them over."

"Okay."

Finally, there were only two people left in the room.

Seeing Josephine's red eyes, Stuart reached out and touched the corner of her eye. "Josephine, why are you crying like this?"

As soon as he spoke, Josephine couldn't help but tear up again.

"I'm fine." Stuart tried to sit up. "The doctor said it didn't hurt any internal organs, just a few stitches."

"Don't move!" Josephine quickly pressed him down. "You... you scared me to death!"

"It's okay, really." Stuart looked at her. "That person was caught, right?"

"Yes, he was taken to the police station. The police just came by."

"I'll have Ronald follow up on this." Stuart suspected it wasn't a random incident, but he didn't want to worry her. "Don't worry."

"Does it hurt?" Josephine also knew things might not be that simple, but she didn't want Stuart to overthink.

Stuart shook his head. "They gave me anesthesia, it doesn't hurt."

"So many stitches, it will definitely leave a scar." Josephine was heartbroken. "If it hurts, tell me."

"What's a scar to a man?" Stuart smiled at her. "If it hurts, you kiss me, and it won't hurt anymore."

Josephine held his hand that wasn't hooked up to an IV and said, "In the future, don't be so impulsive."

"Don't tell me that. If someone wants to hurt you, should I just stand by and watch?"

"But it's very dangerous."

"Josephine," Stuart looked at her, "my heart almost jumped out of my chest. If you got hurt, I could never forgive myself. I'm so glad it was me who got hurt."

"Stop talking." Josephine's tears fell again. "In any case, you can't get hurt again. Neither of us can."

"Okay." Stuart wiped her tears away. "I won't let you get hurt."

Josephine had already confirmed his condition with the doctor. Maybe the man was startled at the time, and since Stuart was much taller than Josephine, his aim shifted.

Stuart thought that if the man had stabbed where he intended, it would have hit Josephine's heart. In other words, the man came with the intent to kill.

He injured Stuart, but the wound was lower and didn't hit any organs.

Thanks to timely medical attention, there wasn't much bleeding. Now, there were just stitched wounds, and a few days in the hospital for observation to prevent infection would be enough.

The man had been caught, and Ronald was following up on the matter. That afternoon, Ronald came to report to Stuart.

Josephine thought they were going to discuss company matters, so she found an excuse to leave.

Only then did Ronald say, "The man said it was because Mrs. Haustia was his wife's attending physician, but his wife died, so he came for revenge."

"Josephine left clinical practice so long ago. He has no reason to wait all these years to seek revenge."

Ronald also found it suspicious. Josephine had left Hustalia more than five years ago and was now at Celestia Springs. The timing of the man's revenge seemed very odd. But for now, no other motives had been found.

"Investigate," Stuart said coldly. "Who he's been in contact with recently, his financial movements, and the people around him."

He gave many instructions, and Ronald remembered them all.

"There's no need to tell the family about my injury," Stuart said. "I don't want them to worry; it's not a big deal."

Ronald said, "Mr. Haustia, you should be careful. When you were in the emergency room, Mrs. Haustia looked so pitiful."

"I understand."

Ronald left, and Josephine hadn't returned yet. She had gone to see the doctor.

Although she had already discussed Stuart's condition with the doctor, they had done some blood tests in the morning, and she went to check if the results were out. When she returned to the ward, she found that Ronald had already left.

She asked Stuart, "Are you thirsty? Do you want some water?"

Stuart drank a little water, and they chatted for a while. Josephine stayed by his bedside and told him to get some sleep.

Stuart obediently closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Seeing his steady breathing, Josephine got up and went outside to make a phone call.

She called Gerald. As soon as Gerald answered, she said, "Gerald, I need a favor."

This was the second time Josephine had asked him for help. Strictly speaking, it was the first time. The last time didn't really count.

Gerald asked anxiously, "Josephine, what's wrong?"

Josephine hadn't planned to tell her family about this; she was afraid Nicole would worry.

After all, walking down the street and suddenly having someone try to kill you is something nobody can handle.

But now that Stuart was injured, Josephine felt things weren't that simple. She directly said, "Gerald, someone tried to kill me today."

Gerald was so shocked he almost had a heart attack. "What did you say?"

Josephine briefly explained what had happened.

Gerald immediately said, "I'm coming over right now!"

"Gerald, I'm fine." Josephine quickly said. "Don't worry."

"Okay, I understand."

"And don't tell Mom; I don't want her to worry."

Gerald agreed. In less than half an hour, he arrived at the hospital. Seeing that Josephine was indeed unharmed, Gerald finally felt relieved.

But the man's target was Josephine, and even though he was caught, there might be accomplices.

Gerald told Josephine to go buy some fruit at the entrance.

Even though there was fruit in the ward, Josephine knew he wanted to talk to Stuart alone, so she obediently left.

Gerald said, "Josephine's safety is very important right now."

"I know. I've arranged for people to protect her secretly."

Gerald added, "In any case, thank you this time."

"No need," Stuart said. "I'm protecting the woman I love."

"I'll have people help find out the truth," Gerald said. "But if you want to protect Josephine, it looks like you'll need to practice some self-defense."

"The situation was too urgent," Stuart said. "I didn't have time to do anything. Otherwise, with my skills, I could take on eight of him!"

Gerald said, "Alright, I believe you."

"How about, when I'm better, we have a little spar?"

Gerald smiled. "Since you saved Josephine, I'll let you have three moves."

Josephine returned in a few minutes, worried that the two might argue again. But when she came back, she saw they were getting along well.

Gerald gave a few more instructions before leaving.

There was another bed in the observation room, and Josephine slept there at night, lying on her side and looking at Stuart.

Stuart could only lie flat because of his wound. But he could feel Josephine's gaze.

He said, "Josephine, if you keep looking at me like that, neither of us will sleep tonight."

Josephine felt a bit embarrassed. "I-I'll sleep now."

Stuart said, "Come here."

Josephine was stunned. "Huh?"

"Come over here."
