Chapter 554 Quite Pitiful

Ulysses was feeling miserable now, and Kathy didn't want to lecture him with any grand principles.

But she also thought it was good for Ulysses to see the girl's true colors in time.

In the future, if the girl found out about Ulysses' family situation, she might not genuinely like Ulysses but only be with him because of his family background.

Kathy comforted him with a few words.

Ulysses replied: [I'm so angry! How can there be such a person? She directly messaged me saying I'm poor and that I can't give her the life she wants!]

Kathy was afraid Ulysses might do something impulsive, so she quickly called him.

Ulysses answered quickly, sounding aggrieved, "Kathy."

Kathy, used to his energetic and lively voice, felt a pang of heartache hearing him so downcast.

"Ulysses, I told you, this kind of girl, we should take this opportunity to stay away from her. Think about it, if you hadn't seen her true colors, and ended up with her, who knows if she was with you just for the money."

"I know, but I just feel really bad. We got along so well before, but once she found out I was working part-time and that the gifts I gave her were bought with my hard-earned money, her attitude changed."

"We don't need such girls," Kathy said. "What's the use of being good-looking? Appearance is the least useful thing; personal charm is more important."

"I know, Kathy. I just feel a bit uncomfortable," Ulysses said. "I liked her not because she was good-looking. I thought she was kind and honest, but it turns out..."

"Some things can't be judged by appearances alone," Kathy said. "From this incident, you should understand one thing. That is, don't rush to define someone. Only after a long time of interaction can you truly understand a person's heart and character. Whether they are good or bad, don't label them too quickly, okay?"

"Got it."

Kathy continued, "Fate is a magical thing. You're only nineteen, still very young. Look at your dad and me, we're both eighty combined, and we only met each other later in life, and it's still great."

Ulysses said, "Actually, I really envy the relationship between you and Dad."

He didn't expect his girlfriend to be like Kathy, who could step up at critical moments, risking her own life to save Gerald.

But at the very least, she should genuinely like him.

However, Ulysses also knew that Kathy made a lot of sense.

Many of his classmates thought he came from a poor family.

After all, there weren't many people doing part-time jobs in college.

Even some from really poor mountainous areas preferred to get scholarships rather than work part-time.

Maybe they felt it was a bit embarrassing.

But Ulysses was used to it.

He had been in many industries, and learned a lot about the market.

Moreover, he enjoyed the process of working.

But who would have thought that the first girl he liked would dislike him for being poor?

He had clearly seen her feeding stray cats, and when one kitten died, she cried and buried it.

How could such a girl be so materialistic?

Nineteen-year-old Ulysses really couldn't accept such a harsh reality.

Kathy comforted him for a long time before hanging up.

Gerald said, "Why say so much to him? After a few more experiences, he'll understand on his own."

"The purpose of parents is to let their children suffer less, isn't it?" Kathy replied.

Gerald said, "Only when he experiences it himself and suffers, will he learn the lesson. We can protect him for a while, but can we protect him for a lifetime?"

Kathy disagreed, "Although we can protect him, we don't protect him in everything. He has to go through things himself. But if we tell him some things, he will understand faster."

"Okay, I'll listen to you," Gerald said. "As long as you don't mind the trouble."

"How can I mind the trouble when educating children?"

"If you care so much, why don't we have our own child for you to educate?" Gerald said. "Ulysses is grown up now, and you don't have many opportunities to educate him."

Kathy said, "I haven't decided yet."

Kathy was still hesitating about whether they should have children.

Although her project was nearing completion, and she didn't have to manage many things anymore.

But the previous radiation exposure was real.

She was afraid it might affect the child.

Gerald knew this too and comforted her, saying, "No rush, we can discuss it in a couple of years."

"In a couple of years, we'll be older."

"What, afraid I can't give you a child?" Gerald pinched her cheek. "Seems like my prowess hasn't convinced you yet."

"What are you talking about?" Kathy glared at him. "I mean me, I'll be an older mother."

"Then we won't have one," Gerald said. "I'll listen to you."

"I do want one," Kathy snuggled into his arms. "I hadn't considered it before, but if it's with you, I'm looking forward to it."

"As long as your health is fine, we'll have one," Gerald said. "If there's any risk, we won't. If you like children, we can adopt one."

"I'd rather have my own," Kathy sighed. "If only you could give birth, with your strong physique, you could have ten or eight without a problem."

"Really?" Gerald looked at her. "If you want me to give birth, Honey, you'll have to work a bit harder."

"Work harder on what?"

"Work harder to get pregnant," Gerald said, picking her up. "Let's start now."

Kathy hit him, "What are you doing? It's still early!"

"What? Do we need to check the time to be intimate as a couple?"

"Still, no, Ulysses just had a breakup, I'm not in the mood."

"What's his breakup got to do with you?" Gerald put her on the bed. "Why not care about me? Who really wants to be satisfied right now?"

"You really are..." Kathy pushed him. "We've been married for so long, why are you still so insatiable?"

"Because you haven't satisfied me yet," Gerald kissed the corner of her lips. "So long? It's only been a bit over half a month, and I haven't touched a woman in years."

Kathy, feeling ticklish, wanted to say something but was silenced by him.

For the next two days, Kathy chatted with Ulysses every day, afraid he might do something rash.

Finally, the weekend arrived. This time, on Friday night, Kathy went to the Clarence Mansion and indeed saw Ulysses at home.

Everyone in the family knew about Ulysses' pursuit and confession.

They had planned to celebrate, as it was Ulysses' first love.

But who knew, within a few days, he would be dumped?

To be precise, he hadn't even gotten together with the girl.

He had just given her a gift and confessed, and the girl said she would think about it.

Kathy thought the girl seemed problematic.

She accepted the gift and then said she would think about it.

If she were considering it, she shouldn't accept Ulysses's gift.

Only accept gifts after confirming the relationship.

Anyway, the whole family felt sorry for Ulysses.
