Chapter 329 Her Initiated Kiss
At night, Stuart knew it was time to bounce. His crew provided news that William's biological father has been located.
"I had someone dig into his past. Turns out, over the years, he kept coming back to the country, always hitting up the research institute looking for someone."
Josephine, curious as ever, asked, "Who was he looking for?"
Stuart replied, "I think he's got a ton of secrets. He even chased after my mom back in the day."
When William's biological dad was young, he had a thing for Carol, who ultimately ended up with Elbert. After Elbert cheated, Melissa took off abroad, and that guy vanished soon after.
But over the years, he kept coming back, always trying to find Carol.
Carol, though, never saw him.
Josephine chimed in, "Do you think he liked Carol and teamed up with Melissa to frame Elbert?"
"That's what I'm thinking too," Stuart said. "No matter what, my dad got a raw deal, that's for sure."
"So, how are you gonna break this to Elbert and Carol?"
"I've thought about it. I can't do it face-to-face. I'll shoot my mom a message. As for my dad, I'll have someone hand him the info we found."
Josephine sighed, "William's biological dad is a real piece of work."
"Josephine, my dad got wronged," Stuart looked at her. "So, I don't have the cheating gene in me, and I won't cheat."
"You..." Josephine looked at him too. "You don't need to keep saying that. I can see for myself."
"Josephine, thank you."
"Thank me for what? The kind of person you want to be is up to you. Some people blame their surroundings, but there are also those who, even if they crawl out of the mud, still reach for the sunlight."
Stuart held her hand, his voice low. "These past five years, when I couldn't find you, I kept dreaming about what I'd do if you hadn't left. I thought a lot about how to treat you right, but every time I snapped out of it, I felt even emptier. Because I was still alone. You weren't there, and I couldn't find you."
He continued, tears welling up, "Josephine, I really don't want to go through that kind of pain again. So, as long as I can see you and know where you are, I'm good. I don't want to think about the past anymore—the good or the bad. When you showed up again, it felt like my prayers were answered, like God brought you back to me."
Josephine couldn't help but wipe away his tears.
He grabbed her hand and pressed it to his face. "If someone had told me five years ago that I'd cry, kneel, and be heartbroken over a woman, I'd have laughed. But after going through it, I realized that loving someone can really break your heart."
Josephine lowered her gaze, unable to hide the sting in her eyes.
Stuart went on, "Back then, I thought, if I'm in so much pain, then when you left, did you feel the same way, or even worse?"
He lowered his head and buried his face between Josephine's legs. "I don't dare to think about it. Whenever I think about how I hurt you, I just want to..."
Josephine raised her hand and placed it on his head. All she could say was, "It's all in the past." Yeah, it was all in the past. No matter how much pain, helplessness, or resentment there was, it wouldn't mess with them anymore.
Stuart's tears soaked her pants. Feeling the dampness, Josephine cupped his face. "Stop crying. What if Jeffery sees this?"
Stuart, still a mess, said, "So what? He already saw me kneel."
Josephine grabbed a tissue to wipe his tears. "The past wasn't just your fault. If I had communicated with you properly..."
"No." Stuart held her hand. "It was all my fault, I..."
Their eyes locked. In that moment, Stuart couldn't say anything more.
Josephine's eyes were stunning. She must have just cried, with glistening tears on her lashes, making her eyes even more beautiful, like the brightest stars.
Stuart's Adam's apple bobbed, and his breathing got a bit rapid. He desperately wanted to hold her tight and kiss her hard!
But he held back. Even though his gaze was burning and his heart was pounding, he controlled himself.
Josephine also looked into Stuart's eyes. His gaze was deep, like a bottomless pool or the unfathomable depths of the ocean. Looking into them felt like being drawn in completely. It was irresistible.
The air around them seemed to heat up suddenly, and both of them lightened their breaths, as if afraid to disturb something. There was a different kind of emotion in the air, making hearts race and ears turn red. Their eyes met, irresistibly drawn to each other. Not knowing who moved first, they slowly leaned closer.
Just as their lips were about to touch, Stuart forcibly restrained his desire. His heart was about to leap out, his mind screaming "kiss her."
But he spoke. "Josephine."
He called her name, his voice a bit hoarse, alluring and charming. It felt like a feather gently brushing her heart, making it tingle.
"May I?" He had promised her before that he would never force her to do anything again. He wanted to learn to respect her, cherish her, and consult her on everything.
But to his surprise, before he could act on his thoughts, Josephine took the lead and kissed him. She hooked her arms around his neck and pressed her lips to his.
Josephine knew she could never resist Stuart. Putting aside emotions, even just following her body's needs, she didn't want to deny herself.
After all, she had denied herself for so many years. But this time, she wanted to take the lead, to indulge her emotions without worrying about anything.
As their lips met, Stuart felt a loud bang in his head, and a tightly stretched string snapped. He grabbed the back of Josephine's head, not letting her leave, and kissed her hard. He crushed her tender lips, absorbing her breath, his tongue eagerly prying open her teeth, desperately wanting more.
Strictly speaking, this was the first time in five years that they were this close. Last time, Josephine had taken a desire-enhancing drug that had nearly driven Stuart wild. Despite this, Stuart had refrained from giving in too much, wary that he might lose control.
However, this time was different. Josephine took the initiative, and she was fully conscious. Just thinking about how this kiss was Josephine's consent made Stuart feel a surge of desire coursing through his body.
