Chapter 324 It Might Be a Misunderstanding
Stuart shot a glance at Jeffery and sighed, "Just talking."
When Jeffery started grilling him about his love life, Stuart felt pretty bummed out. Sure, it seemed like women were always flocking to him, but he swore it wouldn't happen again. So, who was it this time?
Determined to get to the bottom of it, Stuart checked the hospital's surveillance footage, revealing that the hallway cameras were pretty decent.
Turned out, it was Donna.
He even enlisted the help of a lip-reading expert to decipher what Donna had said to Josephine.
After hearing it, Stuart was livid and felt the urge to strangle Donna. How dare she go to Josephine and try to mess things up between them!
He had worked so hard to fix their relationship, and now it was all about to be ruined by a few careless words.
No wonder Jeffery said Josephine was unhappy. Who wouldn't be after hearing that?
Stuart felt a burning rage towards Donna. Considering her past actions and the current situation, old and new grudges combined, Stuart decided to have Donna detained immediately.
Donna's intentions were clearly malicious, and it was the perfect time to address all the wrongs she had committed.
When facing Stuart, Josephine's expression and attitude remained unchanged. However, according to Jeffery, Josephine was discontent, a sentiment Stuart also sensed.
As Stuart pondered Donna's words, the more he dwelled on them, the more agitated he became. Because, annoyingly, some of what she said was actually true. Considering Elbert's infidelity to Carol, how does that relate to his alleged inferior genes? Josephine wouldn't believe it, right?
His father being a bad man didn't mean he was a bad man too. Although he used to be, he was genuinely remorseful and wanted to change himself.
Now, the little spark of hope he had was snuffed out like a candle in the wind.
'Why are these people so bad?' Stuart thought.
After this incident, Stuart's impression of Elbert worsened.
When Elbert came back for Christmas this year, Stuart greeted him with a cold shoulder.
Every year during the Starlight Festival, Stuart would visit Carol at the research institute. But he didn't have much affection for Elbert.
He had heard from Andrew that his own parents used to have a good relationship. It was because Elbert cheated that the family ended up like this.
If Elbert hadn't done wrong, they might have been busy, but at least Stuart would have had a warm home. He wouldn't have grown up without feeling fatherly or motherly love.
Over the years, Stuart felt his resentment towards Elbert had lessened. But now, after Donna's reminder, his dislike for Elbert increased.
Who would have thought that decades later, what Elbert did would still affect Stuart.
Thinking of this, Stuart thought of William. Thinking that half of William's blood was the same as his, Stuart felt particularly annoyed.
What a mess!
As Stuart was thinking, his phone rang. He glanced at it and answered, "What is it?"
The person on the other end said, "Mr. Haustia, William was in a car accident."
William had repeatedly tested Stuart's limits, and Stuart, unable to bear it any longer, had sent him to the harshest place abroad.
He could do whatever he wanted there; Stuart wouldn't interfere with his freedom. But coming back to the country was impossible!
The place had harsh natural conditions, and money was useless there.
Stuart had someone keeping tabs on William, and the person calling now was responsible for that.
"Is he dead?" Stuart asked bluntly.
"No," the caller replied, "but he's bleeding a lot. The medical facilities here are not up to par, and they don't have his blood type at the blood bank."
Stuart hadn't planned to use this opportunity to kill William, but he was still puzzled. "What blood type does he have that the blood bank doesn't?"
"The doctor here said it's Rh-negative, which is extremely uncommon. If he isn't moved, he won't make it."
"Rh-negative?" Stuart shot up from his seat. "Are you sure?"
"Yes, the doctor confirmed it."
Stuart barked orders, "Find someone, use a helicopter to take him to the best hospital, and make sure he doesn't die!"
After hanging up, Stuart's heart was racing. Something felt off about this! The Haustia Family had never had anyone with Rh-negative blood!
He immediately called Elbert, "Do you know what blood type William's mother has?"
Elbert was thrilled to get a call from Stuart, but before he could say anything, he heard the question. "Who? William's mother? How would I know!"
"She was your assistant back then. To get into the research institute, she must have had a physical exam. Can you find it?"
For the first time, Stuart was asking him for something, and Elbert immediately agreed, "Yes! I'll have someone look for it right away!"
After hanging up, Elbert contacted his colleagues at the research institute.
Andrew, watching from the side, said, "Now you're eager to help him. Where were you before?"
Elbert said, feeling aggrieved, "Back then, all my attention was on Carol."
Andrew snorted, "And you still couldn't make Carol happy!"
Elbert sighed, "How many times a year can I see her? She avoids me every day!"
"Isn't that your own fault?"
"Dad!" Elbert exclaimed, "I've said it a hundred times, I never liked that Melissa, and I never slept with her."
"William was born, and you're still denying it! With that attitude, you'll never win Carol back, not in a hundred years!"
"None of you believe me!" Elbert said, "I didn't do it, why should I admit it?"
"You were caught cheating, and you still won't own up to it! Are you even a man?"
"I've said I don't know, I really don't know! Why doesn't anyone believe me?"
Andrew was furious, "Get out, don't let me see you!"
What infuriated him wasn't that Elbert had messed up, but that he had erred and refused to acknowledge it!
After more than an hour, Elbert's colleague finally got back to him.
It wasn't easy to find information from over twenty years ago. But fortunately, the research institute kept all kinds of information well-preserved, so Melissa's information was still there.
Elbert received it and immediately forwarded it to Stuart.
The father and son seemed to be naturally at odds. But Stuart was the child Carol had for him, and Elbert had been doing his best to make up for it over the years.
However, the damage he had done was already too great. Stuart had reached an age where having or lacking fatherly love wasn't his primary concern.
So, besides trying to win Carol back at the research institute, Elbert would send messages to Stuart whenever he had a moment. Even if Stuart ignored him, he would still send them with enthusiasm. Most of what he talked about revolved around Carol.
The reason Stuart suspected this matter was because he felt that Elbert genuinely loved Carol. Was it possible that Elbert was really framed or even set up back then?
If this matter could be clarified, he wouldn't feel ashamed of Elbert anymore!
