Chapter 541 She Regretted It

Neither of them had much experience shopping and didn't know how to compare prices, so they bought everything at this store.

They left their address, and someone would deliver the items to their home.

Kathy insisted on paying separately from Gerald, and Gerald had no choice but to let her.

After they had bought almost everything, Kathy said, "Shall we go home?"

Gerald replied, "Since we're out, let's look around some more and see if there's anything else we need to buy."

Kathy felt she didn't need anything else, but Gerald held her hand and didn't let go.

They nodded goodbye to the store clerk and left the store.

Other clerks gathered around, and someone said, "Who would have thought, hidden depths."

Another said, "That's why we shouldn't judge customers based on our own feelings."

The clerk who had helped them smiled and said, "I was just lucky. Not everyone is willing to spend so much money."

She added, "I'm not envious of their money. I just think that girl is so lucky. Did you see the way that man looked at her? They're not young, but to still be like that is really rare."

Everyone agreed.

Kathy herself didn't feel it as strongly, but often, outsiders saw things more clearly.

Gerald's gaze at Kathy couldn't lie.

Perhaps even Gerald himself didn't realize when his feelings had shifted from Kathy's one-sided effort.

Unfortunately, Kathy still felt that Gerald's feelings for her weren't that deep.

She believed he agreed to date her mostly because his family was pressuring him, and she happened to be convenient.

Even though Gerald had said he liked her, Kathy remained calm and clear-headed.

She didn't think she had enough to make a man who had seen it all fall for her so easily.

Especially after Gerald proposed to her following the earthquake, Kathy was even more convinced of one thing.

Gerald was a very responsible man.

As long as they were together, no matter the initial reason, unless something extreme happened, he wouldn't break up with her.

Marriage would naturally follow.

At this moment, Kathy suddenly felt that her previous courage was commendable.

She had actually followed Josephine's advice to pursue such an almost perfect man.

Moreover, Gerald seemed to put his whole heart and soul into his work, without any personal desires.

To Kathy, he was the type who could do everything well.

Whether it was work or dating.

Ultimately, he treated dating as a project and completed it well.

Before this, Kathy hadn't thought so much.

But after the earthquake, Gerald's immediate proposal made Kathy think about these things.

What she wanted and what Gerald gave her were not on the same level.

But she sadly realized that even so, she didn't want to leave Gerald.

It wasn't just her overthinking.

There was another thing that weighed on her mind.

No matter how uncomfortable Gerald was, he wouldn't touch her.

Kathy used to think he was just disciplined and self-controlled.

But now she thought, how could a man resist his beloved woman?

Yet, Gerald had gotten used to sleeping in the same bed with her without doing anything.

It wasn't that he had a dysfunction; he just wasn't interested.

In the past few days, Kathy had come to terms with this reality and felt even more pathetic.

But even so, she couldn't bear to leave Gerald.

She even thought that as long as she could be with Gerald for a lifetime, even if he didn't love her, he wouldn't love anyone else either.

That would be enough.

Once she recovered, she would accept Gerald's proposal.

After all, she couldn't expect Gerald to love her passionately.

Seeing her a bit distracted, Gerald looked at her, "Tired?"

Kathy snapped back to reality and quickly shook her head, "No. Where else do you want to go?"

Seeing her lack of interest, Gerald took her to a nearby café.

They ordered some items and sat by the window.

Gerald asked her, "Shall we eat out later? What do you want to eat?"

Kathy thought for a moment and said, "I want barbecue."

Gerald was taken aback, then smiled, "Sure. Do all women like these things? Josephine used to love it too."

Kathy said, "Yes, and there are other delicious things too."

"Alright, we'll have one thing today, and another time we'll come out again to eat more."

Kathy looked at him, "Will you really go with me?"

Gerald asked, "Why wouldn't I?"

"But..." Kathy wanted to say that those places didn't match his status.

She found it hard to imagine Gerald in a suit sitting in a small shop, or even at a street stall.

Gerald's demeanor was clearly different from ordinary people, and wherever he went, he would be treated with respect.

Kathy was amused by her own imagination.

"Feeling better?" Gerald was relieved to see her smile, "If you don't believe me, I'll take you to eat now."

Kathy quickly said, "I believe you. But you don't have to. I'll go with Josephine another day."

"She's pregnant now, so she should eat less of those things." Gerald forked a piece of cake and brought it to her mouth, "Otherwise, Stuart will complain to me."

Kathy couldn't help but sigh, "Stuart and Josephine have such a great relationship."

Gerald looked at her, "Our relationship isn't good? You're envious of others?"

"It's different."

Gerald was puzzled, "How is it different?"

Kathy couldn't explain.

She was also afraid that if she said it, Gerald would be unhappy.

But Stuart and Josephine's relationship had been built over many years, and they had gone through a lot together.

Unlike her and Gerald, who were so proper and formal, like a couple who met through a blind date and would eventually get married in an orderly manner.

But even so, Kathy was very content.

She had refused Gerald's proposal out of a moment of stubbornness.

When she pushed Gerald away, it was a subconscious reaction.

She was willing to risk her life for Gerald's safety.

She didn't expect anything in return from Gerald.

But Gerald's proposal felt more like gratitude.

And what Kathy least wanted was that kind of attitude from him.

It might seem like she was being a bit pretentious.

Kathy even regretted it a bit now.

Her ultimate goal was to be with Gerald, wasn't it?

Why did she refuse when the opportunity was right in front of her?

No matter the process, as long as the result was good, that was enough.

But Kathy didn't expect that when it really happened, she would still feel awkward and uncomfortable, even heartbroken.

She thought, maybe she would never see the day when Gerald wanted to marry her out of love.
