Chapter 506 No Problem Being Your Stepmother

Ulysses obediently went home.

He promised Gerald he wouldn't tell Nicole, but on the way, he couldn't help but call Josephine.

"Aunt Josephine!" He said excitedly, "I have something to tell you!"

Josephine laughed and asked, "What is it? I was just about to call and ask how your dad is doing."

"My dad is doing great, he can even go on dates now."

"Dates? What dates?"

Ulysses said, "It's that woman with the online name Lollipop! She came to the hospital to see my dad!"

Josephine laughed, "So soon? I know about this. Didn't I tell you before? I was the one who told her about your dad's illness. Ulysses, what do you think of her?"

"So it was you who told her, Aunt Josephine. I thought my dad was playing the sympathy card." Ulysses said, "My first impression is good. I think she has a good personality too."

Josephine said, "That's right, she has a great personality and character. She would definitely make a good stepmother!"

Ulysses asked, "Aunt Josephine, do you really think she could become my stepmother?"

"Well, I don't know," Josephine said. "I'm just talking. Whether it happens or not depends on your dad's attitude. Anyway, Kathy really likes your dad."

"Her name is Kathy? That's a nice name," Ulysses said.

"Yes, I wonder if your dad will realize it. But didn't you stay to see how your dad reacted?"

"My dad kicked me out. Do you think I should sneak back to take a look?"

"Forget it," Josephine said. "They haven't made any real progress yet. If you interfere, your dad might get even more annoyed."

"Alright," Ulysses said. "By the way, Aunt Josephine, don't tell Grandma yet. I don't want her to get her hopes up and then be disappointed."

Josephine said, "Okay, they say people are more vulnerable when they're sick. I hope your dad can get along well with Kathy this time."

Ulysses also said, "I hope so too. I want to have a stepmother soon."

"You're not worried that a stepmother might treat you badly?"

"Aunt Josephine, I'm not a kid anymore. If a stepmother wants to bully me, she has to see if she can handle me."

Josephine laughed, "You want to fight a woman?"

"Of course, I wouldn't fight a woman, but if someone bullies me, I won't just sit there and take it. Besides, I have Grandma and you as my support. Who would I be afraid of?"

"Right," Josephine said. "If anyone bullies you, you must tell us, okay?"

"I'm not a kid anymore, Aunt Josephine," Ulysses laughed. "Don't worry!"

"Alright, then go back later and ask your dad, or observe him."

"Okay!"

Josephine didn't expect Kathy to act so quickly.

She thought, after visiting the hospital, she would message Kathy later to see if there was any progress.

Although it was likely there wouldn't be much progress, she was still curious.

Josephine thought that if Kathy visited the hospital, she would leave in at most half an hour, maybe even less than ten minutes.

With Gerald's temper, he might not even talk to her for long before asking her to leave.

Josephine even calculated Kathy's travel time home and messaged her after more than half an hour.

But Kathy didn't reply.

Josephine thought maybe she was busy with other things and decided to wait.

But instead of Kathy's reply, she got a call from Ulysses.

She answered and asked, "What's up, Ulysses?"

Ulysses covered the phone and said, "Aunt Josephine, I'm at the hospital. Guess what I saw!"

Josephine was puzzled. "What did you see?"

"That Kathy!" Ulysses said, "She hasn't left yet!"

Josephine was also very surprised, "She hasn't left? Are you sure you didn't see wrong?"

"She's a grown woman, how could I see wrong?" Ulysses said, "I looked through the window into the ward. She's sitting by the bed, talking to my dad! I even saw my dad smiling! He kept smiling!"

Josephine's eyes widened. "Really? Really?"

"Really!" Ulysses said, "I just didn't dare to take a photo, otherwise I would have sent you one! I could even do a live broadcast!"

"Don't disturb them," Josephine quickly said. "This is a good thing!"

"I know, I know," Ulysses said. "Aunt Josephine, what does this mean? Do you think they might get together?"

Josephine said, "It's hard to say. With your dad's temper, I'm just worried Kathy might get hurt."

"No way, my dad was smiling so much, he didn't look like he was bullying anyone."

"That's good," Josephine said. "Then wait outside and don't disturb them."

"Got it."

"Let me know when she leaves."

"Okay."

Actually, Kathy didn't want to leave, but she was very shy.

After all, she didn't expect her dream man to agree to date her so easily.

She always felt it was unreal, like she was dreaming.

If it was a dream, she really hoped it wouldn't end.

Did leaving mean the dream would end?

She felt uncomfortable staying, but afraid the dream would break if she left, so she stayed, feeling both sweet and painful.

But honestly, the sweetness outweighed the pain.

After all, the man she liked for so long was right beside her, chatting with her.

Gerald also noticed that Kathy would occasionally zone out.

Sometimes, while they were talking, she would stare at him and get lost in thought.

He would remind her and tease her, making her blush.

After a while, she would start staring at him again, lost in thought.

Gerald couldn't help but ask, "Is there something on my face?"

Kathy continued to stare at him.

Gerald couldn't help but squeeze her hand. "Can you see something?"

Kathy was startled and instinctively pulled her hand back.

She realized it was Gerald who touched her.

She immediately felt the place he touched become hot and tingly, just like when she fed Gerald earlier.

Gerald asked her, "Do you like me because of my face?"

Kathy was shocked and quickly shook her head, "Of course not!"

"Then why are you staring at me?" Gerald said, "Or is there something on my face?"

"No," Kathy said anxiously, "I'm just, just too happy. It feels unreal, like a dream."

So she wanted to look at Gerald to see if he was real.

Gerald smiled, then grabbed her hand and placed it on his face. "If you want to see if I'm real, just touch me."

Kathy was dumbfounded.

Gerald quickly let go of her hand.

But Kathy didn't move.

Her hand stayed on Gerald's cheek.

The skin in her palm was warm, smooth, with a bit of stubble.

"Is it real?" Gerald asked.

Kathy swallowed and nodded, "It's real."

Gerald said, "Then can you take your hand away?"

Kathy hurriedly said, "Oh," and then withdrew her hand.

Gerald said, "Sorry, I held your hand without your permission just now."
