Chapter 474 What Do You Need?
Claudia knew Laura very well, so she had previously told Jair that her behavior would scare Laura.
Jair, however, advised her not to overthink it, emphasizing that whether Laura wanted children or not was entirely up to her. He made a good point; the key was whether Laura herself wanted to have children.
If she wanted to, even if Claudia vomited for eight months, she would still have the baby.
If she didn't want to, even if Claudia had no reaction at all, she wouldn't have the baby.
In any case, when it came to having children, Jair just wanted Claudia to worry less and eat more.
Claudia eventually had to be hospitalized.
There was no other way; she vomited everything she ate, even water. If she kept vomiting, her electrolytes would become imbalanced.
Josephine, who was a doctor, clearly told Jair that there was no specific medication for Claudia's condition.
IV fluids could only supplement the necessary nutrients for the body and couldn't solve the vomiting problem.
Jair was extremely worried; Claudia couldn't eat, and he couldn't eat either.
In the end, it was Claudia's mother who persuaded him, saying that if he fell ill, who would take care of Claudia? Only then did Jair force himself to eat.
He asked Josephine and the attending physician, and learned that with Claudia's condition, no one could say when the vomiting would stop.
It could get better tomorrow, or it could last for several months.
Watching Claudia visibly lose weight, her already small face now had an even sharper chin. Jair faced the greatness of motherhood for the first time. He even thought about discussing with Claudia whether they should keep the baby.
But Claudia's parents advised him not to say such things to Claudia.
Claudia was a traditional girl who liked children, and having gotten married, she would definitely want to have a baby.
If Jair said he didn't want the baby, she would be heartbroken. She wouldn't be able to accept it.
There was no other way; Jair could only pray that Claudia would get better soon.
Josephine didn't expect Claudia's condition to be so severe.
Regarding morning sickness, there really wasn't a good medical solution. But there were quite a few folk remedies.
The Cook Family even found a famous witch doctor, who said that as long as Claudia could keep the medicine down for five minutes, it would be effective.
Claudia managed to hold it down for ten minutes, then vomited it all out.
After that, she continued to vomit as usual.
Just when everyone was at their wit's end, Claudia suddenly wanted to eat something.
Previously, she had no appetite at all. She didn't even want to drink water, let alone eat.
She wanted to eat a type of porridge her mother used to make for her when she was a child.
Claudia's mother immediately went home to make it for her.
When she ate it, everyone watched her, afraid she would vomit it out the next second.
But she didn't.
Claudia got better.
It was miraculous; she could eat and drink normally, as if the severe vomiting had never happened.
After being discharged and returning home, Claudia could eat and sleep well for several days in a row. Her face visibly became rosier. Only then did everyone breathe a sigh of relief.
All in all, Claudia had been struggling for more than half a month.
Josephine privately informed Jair that during pregnancy, hormone levels could fluctuate, meaning Claudia might experience morning sickness again. Although it wasn't certain, she wanted to give Jair a heads-up so he could be mentally prepared.
Jair was extremely nervous and would satisfy Claudia's every craving.
The doctor also said that as long as she could eat, let her eat whatever she wanted.
Claudia did crave some strange things. The crispy rice left in the rice cooker from her childhood, half-cooked peanuts grown by the neighbors in the countryside a couple of years ago, and once she wanted barbecue in the middle of the night.
Without a word, Jair got up and drove to the night market.
But the night market was closed, so he called the number on a barbecue food truck and paid the owner five thousand dollars to come out in the middle of the night and make a serving for him.
Jair didn't find any of this hard. Compared to Claudia, who had a baby in her belly, he thought she had it much harder.
Fortunately, Claudia didn't vomit much after that.
She occasionally felt uncomfortable, but it was just nausea and dry heaving, nothing as severe as before.
When Laura found out that Jair went out in the middle of the night to get barbecue, she couldn't stop laughing.
Steven said, "Is it that funny? What's the big deal? Even if you weren't pregnant, if you wanted something, I'd go get it for you."
"Can't I laugh?" Laura said, "Claudia never used to like those things, but now that she's pregnant, her tastes have changed."
"That's how pregnancy is."
"You seem to understand."
Steven said, "I've never experienced it, but I've seen others go through it."
Everyone was very worried about Claudia before. Now that she was better, Laura's smile was much more relaxed. She said, "I was worried that Jair wouldn't take good care of Claudia. He seemed pretty careless, but it turns out he's quite attentive."
Jair took care of Claudia meticulously during her pregnancy. Even Claudia's mother felt she couldn't compare.
Steven held her hand, "Praising another man in front of me? What, am I not attentive enough in taking care of you?"
"I'm praising him, not putting you down. Why are you getting jealous?" Laura said, "I'm just saying, I'm finally relieved that Claudia married him."
"What if you weren't relieved?" Steven said, "You worry too much."
Laura glared at him, "If he didn't take good care of Claudia, I'd deal with him!"
Steven couldn't argue with her, so he said, "Alright, alright, you're a superhero. Wherever there's a problem, there you are."
"Of course, I'm very capable." Laura snuggled into his arms, "If you have any problems, I can help you too!"
"You're really amazing, honey." Steven kissed her, "Alright, when I have a problem, I'll definitely come to you."
"Okay, for the sake of our relationship, I'll charge you less."
Steven laughed, "You charge a fee?"
"You think it's free?"
"I've never heard of superheroes charging a fee."
"I'm different from them." Laura said, "Don't you have to tithe when you go to church?"
"That's true." Steven couldn't stop laughing, "So how do you set your price?"
"It depends on what the issue is."
"Any issue?"
"As long as you can afford it."
Steven said, "I'll give you a month's allowance!"
Laura said, "Then forget it, that's not even enough for my appearance fee."
Steven fell silent.
Laura asked, "Alright, tell me first, what do you need?"
