Chapter 141 The Person Involved Is the Least Clear
Stuart snapped, "I don't want to!"
Jair asked, "What's wrong? Scared you might actually like Josephine?"
Stuart clenched his jaw, not wanting to admit it, but yeah, he was a bit worried.
He thought, 'Even if I keep a pet for three years, I'd get attached. So, of course, I'd have some feelings for Josephine. But those were definitely different from for Angela.'
Jair pressed on, "Isn't that right?"
Stuart frowned. "This is pointless. I know who I like."
Jair asked, "Then why are you still tangled up with Josephine?"
"Because I need to vent my anger!" Stuart snapped. "No one treats me like this. I've never been humiliated like this. She knows how to get under my skin! And you think she didn't do it on purpose?"
Jair was speechless. If they weren't such close friends, he'd want to punch Stuart and shake some sense into him.
Stuart was usually rational, but when it came to Josephine, he was a mess. Jair didn't buy that he didn't like her.
But Stuart was stubborn. No matter what Jair said, it didn't help.
"Let me ask you," Jair said, trying a different approach. "If you two get remarried and Angela comes back, will you still be with Josephine?"
Stuart blurted out, "Yes!"
Jair asked, "So, you want to remarry her just to get back at her? To humiliate her? For revenge?"
Stuart nodded. "Yes!"
Jair asked, "And if you divorce again and Josephine marries someone else, will you not care?"
Stuart gritted his teeth, unable to speak. Just thinking about it made him furious.
Jair said, "If you don't care about what Josephine does in the future, then you don't have feelings for her."
"Stop talking." Stuart was shocked by his own feelings, weakly waving his hand. "I need to think."
It was clear now. His feelings for Josephine weren't just like keeping a pet. His possessiveness was too strong to ignore.
He'd been lying to himself. He wanted a divorce initially because he knew Andrew wouldn't agree. Later, he wanted it because Josephine wouldn't agree. But when she proposed it, he panicked.
He used Andrew's health as a threat but still couldn't keep Josephine. Three years together changed his feelings for her.
Jair added, "Remember how you treated Josephine when you were young? You always wanted to bully her, then make it up to her. Like a boy who likes a girl and causes trouble for her."
"Enough!" Stuart was in shock. He couldn't believe his feelings for Josephine were like this.
They were just in a family-arranged marriage, a couple without real feelings.
When did things start to change? Stuart had no clue.
He used to think he bullied Josephine because he didn't like her. Turns out, he liked her and wanted her attention.
Stuart remembered how he loved making Josephine angry. He enjoyed seeing her different expressions and was jealous of her always being with Liam.
He wasn't dumb, just too involved to see clearly. Once someone pointed it out, it all made sense.
He'd liked Josephine since they were kids. His jealousy over Liam made him act out. As they grew older, things got more strained. Teenagers, especially proud ones like Stuart, don't like admitting their feelings.
They stayed awkward until they joined the military. Angela saved him, and he shifted his feelings to her. But deep down, it was always Josephine.
When Andrew suggested he marry Josephine, he was secretly happy. But everyone, including Robin, said Josephine was scheming, which made Stuart treat her worse.
Even after they married, Josephine's closeness with Liam bothered him. He thought she married him out of obligation, not love. This made him resent her more.
Looking back, he realized he was just jealous. When he found out Angela saved him, he was shocked. He remembered seeing Josephine with Liam at the military base, which made him decide to focus on Angela instead.
His supposed love for Angela was more about his friends' teasing and instigation. Over time, everyone accepted it as fact, especially Robin, who always belittled Josephine.
"I remember something else," Jair said. "Do you remember why Josephine's relationship with Robin fell apart in high school?"
Stuart did. Robin liked a girl, but Josephine interfered, and Robin's confession failed.
"Actually, Robin wrote a love letter back then and asked Josephine to deliver it," Jair said.
