Chapter 59 Odor
After Stuart had another round with Josephine, she was left in complete despair.
He left, satisfied, while Josephine lay motionless in bed, not wanting to move.
Stuart had been too forceful, not giving her any chance to resist.
Josephine now understood the consequences of her stubbornness.
She regretted standing up to Stuart.
In the end, it would only be her who suffered. Now that Stuart was gone, she had to face Cliff alone.
Josephine had no choice but to get up. She summoned her courage and went downstairs, only to find that Cliff had gone for a walk.
She quickly left in her car. She hadn't seen Cliff, but she didn't want to give Stuart another chance to hurt her.
At the hospital, Josephine was still angry. While doing her rounds, she ran into Liam, who suggested they find a place to talk. "You look good," Liam said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Did you sleep well last night?"
"Liam!" Josephine glared at him. "I've told you many times, we're all grown up now. Don't touch me like you did when we were kids."
Liam chuckled softly. "Even though we've grown up, you're still family. What's wrong?" Josephine didn't want to argue with him and asked, "How is Ray's internship going?"
Liam replied, "I've left it to Adam to handle. Don't worry, even if he passes the theoretical exam, he won't pass the practical."
Josephine said, "Make sure the practical test is challenging. Find him a strong opponent so that he can see his shortcomings."
Liam smiled. "Josephine, you've finally come around."
"Don't joke," Josephine said, her face tense. "I can tolerate other things, but when it comes to the professionalism of treating patients, we can't be careless."
"Don't worry, I'll make sure everything is taken care of," Liam said, pleased. "You should have fought back long ago. Doris is of low status. It is not worth the attention."
Josephine replied, "She's not worth my attention. Even if it wasn't Ray who came today, anyone who fails the practical test can’t get the job. They can't just do as they please because of their family background."
Liam naturally agreed with everything she said. Josephine had lunch in the cafeteria and then busied herself all afternoon.
Finally, it was time to go home. She stretched and went to the pharmacy.
Since Josephine lived in the Haustia Manor recently, Cliff sent someone to pick her up every day.
So, Josephine was surprised to see Stuart in the car. Why would Stuart come to pick her up? How was this possible?
But Josephine was still thinking about what happened in the morning, so she ignored him and got into the car in silence.
They sat in the back seat while the driver kept his eyes on the road, driving carefully.
Stuart was busy with his documents, but he couldn't help but steal glances at Josephine.
He had left earlier in the morning, afraid that Josephine would go crazy, so he didn't know what she was wearing today.
Since entering her rebellious phase, Josephine seemed to have a special preference for cool-toned clothes.
At this moment, she was wrapped in a dark gray cashmere coat, and the car's heater was on, so she took off her white scarf, revealing a black turtleneck sweater underneath.
Her delicate chin buried in the collar made her look even more attractive.
Josephine raised her hand and rubbed her nose.
Stuart's gaze immediately fell on her fingertips.
Josephine's fingers were slender and long, with rounded nails painted in a light pink and a cute crescent moon at the base of her nails.
Suddenly, Josephine sneezed. Only then did Stuart speak, "Are you cold?"
He then instructed the driver, "Turn up the heat a little."
Josephine waved her hand. "No, Barry, did you put perfume in your car?"
Due to her profession, Josephine never wore jewelry or used strong-smelling perfumes.
As soon as she got in the car, she smelled a strong scent.
Stuart took a sniff but found that he couldn't smell anything.
Barry quickly spoke up, "No, Mrs. Haustia, I didn’t put anything in the car."
"That's strange." Josephine sniffed again and looked at Stuart.
The driver remained silent and focused on driving.
He didn't dare mention the scent was coming from Stuart.
As soon as Stuart got in the car, he smelled the strong fragrance.
Josephine noticed it, too, and leaned over but quickly pulled back.
Stuart never wore cologne, so why could he smell like it?
Josephine assumed it must be Doris's perfume.
The thought made the scent even more unpleasant to her.
Josephine opened the window, letting in a gust of cold wind.
Stuart shivered. "What are you doing? Aren't you cold?"
Josephine didn't even look at him. Stuart suppressed his anger. "I have a cold. Can you consider my feelings?"
Josephine retorted, "Then seek those who consider you."
Stuart was furious. "Josephine, why are you always like this? Why do we argue every day?"
Josephine felt his angry gaze but kept her eyes forward. "Barry, find a suitable place to park. I want to get off."
"What do you mean?" Stuart grabbed her arm.
Josephine pushed him away. "Don't touch me; I find it dirty."
"Josephine!" Stuart took a deep breath, immediately coughing uncontrollably.
Josephine closed the window and turned to Barry. Barry hesitated. "Mrs. Haustia, we can't park here."
Josephine didn't want to make it difficult for him, so she nodded and put on a mask from her bag.
Stuart coughed, his face turning red. He drank some water to calm down.
Doris was particularly concerned about his health at the company.
But Josephine was unusually indifferent to him. Stuart felt that she didn't care about him at all.
Stuart was so angry that he ignored his inner expectations and grievances.
When they arrived at the Haustia Manor, Josephine's eagerness to get out of the car made Stuart even angrier.
Did she dislike being with him that much? Stuart sulked in the car for a while.
When he looked up, he found that Josephine had already entered the house, completely ignoring him.
He angrily got out of the car and followed.
By the time he entered the house, Josephine was already upstairs changing.
Cliff was sitting in the living room and asked, "Why didn't you come in with Josie?"
Stuart walked over and said, "She didn't wait for me..."
"Stop!" Cliff interrupted him. "Stay away from me. What's that smell on you?"
Stuart froze. "What?"
"What's that disgusting smell on you?" Cliff held his nose in disgust. " Open the windows quickly!"
Only then did Stuart realize something was wrong. Was that smell coming from him? He couldn't smell it himself?
Stuart remembered when it was almost time to leave work, Doris nearly tripped, and he helped her, and she seemed to have held onto his arm. The smell should be from Doris.
