Chapter 485 Help Me Deceive Him

Josephine still propped her chin and tilted her head to look at her. "That depends on what it is."

Laura looked around.

There was no one on the first floor, just the two of them.

But she still leaned in close to Josephine's ear. "I'm... pregnant."

Josephine was stunned for a moment, then raised her hand to hit her. "I knew it!"

Her hand paused in mid-air.

She said angrily, "And you still went back to Hustalia! Wasting a whole day!"

Laura said, "I was just craving."

Josephine took a few deep breaths, then asked her, "When did this happen? How long has it been?"

"Not long." Laura said, "I tested last week, showing positive."

"You didn't tell Steven?"

"No."

"Laura!"

Laura quickly grabbed her. "Don't be mad, I have my reasons."

"What reasons could you possibly have!" Josephine was furious: "For something like this, no reason is a good reason!"

"No." Laura felt guilty. "I was just afraid you guys would worry."

"Not telling us doesn't make us worry less! Steven even went to Stuart, not knowing what happened to you, thinking you went to Hustalia to see a lover!"

"What? He dared to doubt me?"

"Shouldn't he? Look at what you've done!"

Laura said, "I just wanted to wait until it was stable before telling you."

"Forget about us, what about Steven? He's the father! How could you keep something this big from him?"

"I didn't mean to keep it from him," Laura sighed, "If he knew I was pregnant, with his personality, he wouldn't let me go anywhere, treating me like a fragile doll!"

Josephine thought about it and agreed. With how Steven worried about Laura, if he knew she was pregnant, he would indeed treat her like a precious gem.

"Even so, that's no reason to keep it from him." Josephine said, "You're too much."

"Let me tell you," Laura said, "I had barbecue in the morning and fried chicken for lunch... Do you think he would let me eat these if he knew I was pregnant?"

Josephine's eyes widened. "Why do you crave these things when you're pregnant?"

"I can't help it, I don't want to eat anything else."

Josephine looked at her. "Putting that aside, why did you suddenly want to have a baby? Steven didn't notice your unusual behavior?"

Laura said, "He's been busy these days, and I told him I wasn't feeling well at night, so I didn't sleep with him."

"Weren't you scared off by Claudia's symptoms before?"

"Yes, but I thought, not everyone has such a hard time being pregnant, right? I thought I'd give it a try, and if it didn't work out, I'd deal with it then."

"Alright." Josephine said helplessly, "When do you plan to tell him?"

"In the next few days." Laura said, "He's not busy now, and he sticks to me like glue, I can't hide it even if I wanted to."

"What about tonight? Is he still busy?"

"When I came, he was still in an international video conference, I snuck out."

"You really are..." Josephine asked again, "I think you've made a big mess this time."

"I'm not afraid." Laura patted her belly, "I have something to protect me."

"You..." Josephine was speechless, so she asked, "Did you only use a pregnancy test? Didn't go to the hospital?"

"Isn't a pregnancy test enough?"

"Of course not." Josephine wanted to drag her to the hospital right then, "You need to get an ultrasound to see if it's an intrauterine pregnancy."

"Intrauterine what?"

"Because many people have ectopic pregnancies." Josephine said, "So when you're pregnant, you need to rule that out."

"Oh, alright, I'll go tomorrow." She said, "Will you come with me?"

"I can go with you, but Steven needs to go too. He's the father, he has the right to know your condition."

"Got it!" Laura said, "I'll tell him when I get back."

Just then, Stuart came out of the study with his phone: "Steven is coming to pick you up."

Laura said, "Alright."

Josephine asked her, "Where's your phone?"

"In my bag." Laura got up, took her bag, and pulled out her phone: "It's dead."

Josephine said to Stuart, "Let him come, ask if he's eaten, and have the maid prepare something."

Stuart nodded and went back to the study.

"You," Josephine said, "This is pregnancy, you have a little life in your belly, how can you be so careless? Going back and forth to Hustalia, how tiring. Do you know how hard the first three months can be for some people? A sneeze could cause a miscarriage."

"Isn't that an exaggeration?" Laura said, "Now I'm scared."

"Why would I scare you?" Josephine said, "Do you think pregnancy is that simple? If everyone were as careless as you, it wouldn't work!"

"Got it!" Laura said, "I knew you guys would restrict me, and Steven would be even stricter. Imagine if I secretly carried the baby to term, how great that would be."

"Shut up." Josephine said, "After getting pregnant, there are things you can't do and foods you can't eat, don't take it lightly!"

"Okay." Laura said dejectedly, "When Steven comes, can you say something nice for me?"

"How can I help you? You should apologize properly!"

"I'm pregnant, and I still have to apologize?"

"What, being pregnant means you don't have to apologize? Can pregnant women commit murder then?"

"Josephine, don't be mad!" Laura's eyes lit up, "How about this, when he comes, you tell him you noticed something was off with me, guessed I might be pregnant, and then tested it, and it turned out I was!"

"Is it okay to lie like that? And what if he asks what you used to test?"

"This!" Laura took out a small box from her bag and showed it to Josephine: "The pregnancy test, I kept it."

Josephine was surprised: "You kept it?"

"Of course." Laura said, "Even though I hid it from Steven these days, mainly because I was afraid he'd control me, and he was really busy. If he knew I was pregnant, he wouldn't care about the company. So I kept this, even though he didn't see it at the time, he's still the father, I thought he'd want to see it."

"Of course he would!" Josephine praised her, "That's the one thing you did right!"

"So you'll help me?"

"Help you with what?"

"Help me lie to him."

Josephine glared at her, "No lying! Be honest with him! You're a pregnant woman, he won't dare hit you, at most he'll scold you. And from now on, watch what you eat! No more unhealthy junk food!"

Laura said, "I can accept being honest, but don't be so strict about food. I want to defend junk food! It has nutrients too, okay?"
