Chapter 556 From Now On, Pretend We Don't Know Each Other

Ulysses felt a tug at his heart, but as Charlotte got closer, he couldn't worry about Isadora anymore. He lifted the curtain and entered the kitchen.

Isadora sniffled and then heard a gentle female voice beside her.

Charlotte spoke, "Hello, do you need any help?"

Isadora looked up.

The girl in front of her wore light makeup, which might seem like no makeup at all to many boys.

But Isadora could tell it was a carefully crafted look.

It made her eyes look bigger, with prominent under-eye bags and a high nose bridge.

However, in Isadora's eyes, Charlotte's beauty wasn't that high; it was all due to makeup.

She couldn't understand what Ulysses saw in her.

Isadora said expressionlessly, "No, thank you."

Isadora was quite well-known at school.

She was beautiful, straightforward, and most importantly, her family was wealthy and generous.

It was said that her dorm mates would receive purses worth tens of thousands of dollars on their birthdays.

Charlotte had asked around and found out that Isadora's family owned a mine, and later her father ventured into other businesses, making a name for themselves in Celestia Springs.

Charlotte always wanted to get close to her, as she heard Isadora was easily trusting, and being friends with her would surely have its benefits.

Charlotte quickly said, "No need to be so polite. Let's get to know each other. I'm Charlotte."

Isadora forced a smile, "I have something to do. Goodbye."

She turned and left.

Charlotte didn't hear what Isadora had just said to Ulysses.

She thought they were just having a typical customer-employee conversation.

Now that she hadn't exchanged contact information with Isadora, she felt a bit disappointed.

But at least she had shown her face in front of Isadora, which made her quite satisfied.

Ulysses stayed in the kitchen for a while, and when he came out, both girls were gone.

He finally breathed a sigh of relief.

He took out his phone and saw a message from Isadora.

Isadora: [It's my birthday this Saturday. Can you come?]

The message had been sent a while ago, probably before she came into the tea shop.

Ulysses thought about what he had just said and Isadora's expression, feeling a bit uneasy.

Looking at the chat box, he ultimately didn't reply and put his phone back in his pocket.

Soon it was Friday, and Ulysses didn't expect Josephine to come to school to see him.

Josephine, of course, didn't come alone.

Ever since she got pregnant, Stuart accompanied her everywhere.

He was afraid she might get hurt or have an accident.

In short, he was worried.

They called Ulysses, and the two waited at the school gate.

Ulysses was supposed to go home this Friday, but something came up at school, so he had to stay over the weekend.

That was why Josephine came over.

"Aunt Josephine! Uncle Stuart!" Ulysses ran out of the school, happy to see them, "Why are you here?"

Josephine smiled, "Why are you running so fast? Stuart and I were out shopping and decided to drop by to see you."

"You weren't going home this week, and Josephine was worried, so we came to check on you," Stuart added.

Ulysses said, "What's there to worry about? I'm all grown up."

Josephine actually thought that Ulysses, having just gone through a breakup, needed family support.

"I couldn't go home this week because of school matters," Ulysses said, checking his watch. "I have to get back to work soon."

"Alright, as long as I see you're okay," Josephine said, then turned to Stuart, "Give Ulysses the stuff."

Stuart opened the trunk and took out the items.

Ulysses leaned in, "What is it?"

"Just some food," Josephine explained. "Since you aren't going home, I thought you might get tired of the cafeteria food, so I brought some for you."

"So much?" Ulysses said, "I can't eat all this."

Stuart said, "You can share it with your classmates and friends."

"Yes, we intended for you to share it with your dorm mates."

"Alright." Ulysses took the large bags. "Thank you."

"Ulysses, go back to work. We'll be leaving now."

Stuart, who had driven, went to open the passenger door for Josephine.

He got in the car, rolled down the window, said a few more words to Ulysses, and then drove off.

Ulysses, carrying several large bags, turned back to the school.

Unexpectedly, someone stopped him at the gate.

"Ulysses." Charlotte smiled sweetly at him.

"It's you," Ulysses said expressionlessly, "Do you need something?"

"No, I just wanted to say hi," Charlotte said with a hint of grievance, "Just because I turned you down, does that mean we can't even be friends?"

Ulysses didn't want to deal with her.

It wasn't that he didn't want to be friends with girls, but after what happened last time, he had a good idea of what kind of person Charlotte was.

He couldn't be friends with someone like that.

"Sorry," Ulysses said, "From now on, let's pretend we don't know each other."

His good upbringing prevented him from saying anything harsh to a girl.

"Ulysses!" Charlotte called out, "I just saw someone looking for you."

Ulysses frowned, "So what?"

Charlotte had clearly seen the luxury car that came to see Ulysses, a car she had only heard of but never seen.

It was supposedly a limited edition, worth millions of dollars.

"I noticed the dress on that beautiful woman was really nice. Do you mind if I ask... who are they to you?"

Ulysses now realized that Charlotte's attitude towards him today was completely different.

He wasn't stupid; everyone knew what the car Stuart drove represented.

Ulysses smiled, "Oh, you mean them? I used to work as a servant for their family. They were just passing by the school and brought me some things."

"A servant?" Charlotte was instantly disappointed, "You, you were a servant?"

Ulysses said, "To make money, I'll do anything. What's wrong with being a servant?"

Charlotte's face turned pale, and her previous warmth disappeared. "Nothing."

She turned and left without even saying goodbye.

"Ridiculous!" Ulysses, who had been in a good mood, felt annoyed after seeing her.

Just as he was about to go inside, he saw Isadora approaching.

The wide school gate left him no place to hide.

"Ulysses!" Isadora ran towards him.

Ulysses reluctantly stopped. "Do you need something?"

Isadora said, "I sent you a message. Why didn't you reply?"

Ulysses couldn't meet her eyes and looked up, "I didn't check my phone."

Isadora said, "Alright, then I'll tell you in person. Tomorrow is my birthday..."

"I'm busy tomorrow," Ulysses quickly replied, "You know, with the school anniversary coming up, the student council has a lot of work. I won't be free tomorrow or the day after."
