Chapter 488 Better Off Dead
Laura slept well that night.
She didn't know when she fell asleep, but Steven watched her for most of the night.
Before he met Laura, he didn't have a concrete concept of home.
When he came into this world, apart from his deceased mother, no one liked him.
The Bailey Family saw him as an enemy.
They couldn't wait for him to disappear from this world.
If he hadn't been strong enough, Steven might have died in various accidents like car crashes, fires, or drowning.
Steven once thought that he came into this world filled with hatred.
He never imagined he would fall in love with a woman.
When he was diagnosed with cancer, he thought it was divine retribution.
At that time, he had already suppressed the Bailey Family severely.
He thought that when he died, he would leave all his inheritance to Laura, enough for her to squander.
He had no regrets.
But Laura stayed by his side, and he later learned that thyroid tumors come in many types.
And the type he had was not difficult to cure with modern medicine.
It was as if the God played a joke on him, testing their love in this way.
Since then, Steven felt that wherever Laura was, that was his home.
At that time, his business was mainly in Celestia Springs, but for Laura, he would come to Hustalia almost every other day to be with her.
Those days seemed like just yesterday, and now, Laura was still in his arms.
Moreover, she had a baby in her belly.
This was a very novel experience for Steven.
He didn't particularly like children, but he especially wanted a child that Laura gave him.
When he learned that Laura didn't want to have children, he was a bit disappointed but wouldn't make it difficult for her because of it.
But who knew, she quietly prepared such a surprise for him.
Although her actions were a bit infuriating, ultimately, she chose to have this child for his sake.
Steven knew very well that with Laura's personality, she wouldn't want to have children.
Now, looking at Laura's peaceful sleeping face in his arms, Steven's heart felt like it was soaked in honey, sweet and soft.
He loved her so much.
It felt like a lifetime of love wasn't enough.
In the next life, and the life after that, he still wanted to be with her.
When Laura woke up, she instinctively covered her mouth before opening her eyes.
A wave of nausea made her hurriedly get up, not even bothering to put on her shoes, and run to the bathroom.
She was still a bit dizzy from just waking up and almost bumped into the bathroom door frame.
Steven sensed something was wrong when she got up and followed her closely. Her head didn't hit the wall because Steven quickly put his hand there.
Laura had no time for anything else and rushed into the bathroom, dry heaving at the sink.
She felt nauseous but couldn't throw up anything.
This was the first time Laura experienced this feeling, her stomach churning as if it was spasming, her eyes red and filled with tears.
In the end, she still couldn't throw up anything.
Steven was terrified, especially when he saw her looking up at him with her eyes wet and red, as if she had suffered greatly.
He brought over some warm water, "Rinse your mouth."
After a while of dry heaving, the nausea seemed to lessen a bit. Laura's hands, supporting herself on the sink, were trembling.
She had just realized that when you want to throw up, your body uses a lot of strength.
She took the cup, almost unable to hold it steady.
Steven quickly supported her, bringing the cup to her mouth. She took a sip, rinsed her mouth, and then spat it out.
"How are you feeling? Any better?" Steven's heart was in knots, not knowing if this was the first time or if it had been happening for days.
He now understood why Laura didn't tell him.
If he saw Laura like this, he probably couldn't handle it and wouldn't want her to have the baby.
Compared to the baby, his wife was definitely more important.
Laura rinsed her mouth and took another sip of water. Feeling her stomach churning again, she waved her hand, not wanting to speak.
After resting in the bathroom for a while, she bent over and walked back.
Steven had wanted to carry her earlier because she wasn't wearing shoes.
Seeing her about to walk, he picked her up.
Laura lay quietly in his arms, her forehead damp with sweat, in just a short time.
Steven carefully placed her on the bed and wiped her sweat with a tissue.
"How are you feeling? Any better?" Steven asked softly.
Laura didn't want to talk.
It was a very uncomfortable feeling.
She didn't know how to describe it.
She pulled up the blanket, burying herself under it.
The light was blocked, making her feel a bit more comfortable.
Steven tried to pull the blanke., "Don't cover your head."
She made a sound of protest, not letting him touch her.
Steven didn't know what to do.
He took his phone and quietly left the bedroom.
Jair was cooking for Claudia when he received the call.
Although Claudia no longer had morning sickness, her appetite was strange, and she occasionally craved odd things.
Sometimes, she wanted a specific person to cook the same dish.
Putting down the spatula, he answered the call, "Steven, what's up?"
Even outside the bedroom, Steven's voice was low, "I need some advice. How did you take care of Claudia when she was feeling unwell during her pregnancy?"
Jair paused, realizing, "Laura is pregnant?"
Steven confirmed, without much joy in his voice.
Jair said, "Congratulations. How is she? Is she feeling unwell?"
Steven replied, "She just got up and threw up, but nothing came out."
"That's normal..."
The call lasted over half an hour.
Mostly Jair talking and Steven listening.
"Thanks."
"We're friends, no need to thank me."
After hanging up, Steven looked worriedly at the bedroom door.
Honestly, if Laura had to suffer so much to have this baby, he really didn't want it.
Entering the bedroom, he found Laura in the same position, head covered, not moving.
Steven was genuinely worried, gently tugging the blanket. She didn't react.
When her small face was fully revealed, he saw she was asleep.
Steven sighed in relief, praying that when Laura woke up, all her discomfort would be gone.
But clearly, that wasn't the case.
When Laura woke up, she still felt nauseous.
Although she didn't dry heave like in the morning, the feeling was very uncomfortable.
Steven asked if she wanted to eat anything, and she shook her head, not wanting anything.
She had advised Claudia to eat when she didn't want to.
Now, experiencing it herself, she understood the feeling.
There was truly no appetite, and even thinking about food was uncomfortable.
It was only the first day, and Steven already felt overwhelmed.
Thinking about how Claudia went through this for over a month, he felt a bit desperate.
