Chapter 152 Still Seducing Men!
She said, "You're defending the country, and I'm just doing my job treating you. No need to thank me."
Then she left.
The dark-skinned man watched her until she was out of sight.
When Liam came out of the operating room, he saw Josephine asleep on a chair.
She was holding a patient's lab report, eyes closed, head nodding, and slowly leaning to the side.
Liam stepped forward and supported her shoulder.
She opened her eyes and smiled, "You're done? I got you some food."
Since the operating room was busy 24/7, the cafeteria also served meals at night. But the food wasn't great.
There wasn't much else to eat around, so if you couldn't stomach the cafeteria food, you'd go hungry.
Liam sat next to her, opened the lunchbox, and asked, "Did you eat?"
Josephine nodded.
Only then did Liam start eating.
He didn't care much about the food, as long as it filled him up. But he felt sorry for Josephine.
To others, Josephine might seem independent. But to Liam, she was a spoiled girl who loved to act cute and was picky about food.
After marrying Stuart, she had become colder.
Liam regretted not stopping her back then, but he knew he couldn't have.
He could only watch her grow more silent and mature each day.
Maturity was good, but if it came with pain, he wished Josephine never had to grow up.
After Liam finished eating, they left the hospital.
Their place was right next to the hospital, a simple apartment building.
Liam said, "Get some rest; there's a lot to do tomorrow."
Liam looked at her, his eyes sparkling.
"You too," Josephine said, punching him lightly. "Good luck tomorrow."
Meanwhile, Stuart, suffering from insomnia, used the excuse of inspecting the overseas market to come to the city where Josephine's research institute was.
Actually, Stuart had no business in this city.
He stood outside the research institute, looking at the old building.
If Josephine saw him now, she'd be very surprised.
Stuart had lost a lot of weight and looked haggard. His eyes were bloodshot.
It looked like he hadn't slept for days.
Soon, a mid-level leader from the research institute came out and warmly shook his hand.
Stuart came under the guise of investment.
The leader said, "The director and deputy director are at the border, so they couldn't greet you. Please understand."
Stuart kept a straight face, trying to hide his excitement. "I'll take a tour first."
The research institute wasn't open to the public, but they made an exception for a big investor like Stuart.
The institute wasn't big. Stuart toured from the first floor to the fifth but didn't see Josephine.
He asked, "Is this everyone?"
The leader said, "You came at a bad time. Some staff are at the border."
"At the border?" Stuart's heart skipped a beat. "What are they doing there?"
The leader explained.
Stuart couldn't care less about chatting and directly asked, "Is Josephine among them?"
The leader nodded, "Dr. Kalmien also went."
Stuart snapped, "How could you let her go to such a dangerous place?"
The leader, puzzled by his outburst, replied, "It's just the border, not the front line. Everyone volunteered."
Stuart turned and walked away, making a call. "Make arrangements. I'm going to the border."
Ronald was shocked. "Mr. Haustia, what did you say?"
They set off that night. Stuart sat in the back seat, his face dark and unreadable.
Ronald, in the front passenger seat, tried to figure out Stuart's thoughts.
Stuart was a businessman, always calculating profit and loss, avoiding risks. But now, he was heading to the border, a dangerous place.
Ronald couldn't understand. He didn't think Stuart loved Josephine.
Stuart was too cold and calculating to fall in love.
Even with Angela, it was more about gratitude because she had saved him.
So why was Stuart risking danger for Josephine?
Maybe Josephine had a secret Ronald didn't know about.
The small border town was desolate and bleak from years of war, with many residents fleeing.
The air smelled of gunpowder.
Stuart was tense, filled with worry and anger. He couldn't believe Josephine had such courage!
This wasn't a peaceful and secure country. Even though it wasn't the front line, there were still many unknown dangers.
At the hospital, Josephine was checking a post-surgery patient's wound.
"Dr. Kalmien, thank you for saving my life," said the patient, a handsome man in his thirties with blond hair and blue eyes.
His name was Harold Garcia, an outstanding officer at the military base.
He had heard that when he was brought in yesterday, his condition was severe; many doctors didn't have the confidence to operate on him.
It was this charming woman in front of him who saved him.
Josephine, wearing a mask, changed his dressing without expression. "No need to thank me."
Harold stared at her. "Dr. Kalmien, are you married?"
Josephine didn't respond.
Harold continued, "If not, may I pursue you?"
The nurse next to them couldn't help but speak up, "At a time like this, you still have the mood for romance."
"We will definitely win!" Harold said. "I have that confidence! Please, Dr. Kalmien, give me a chance. Besides being an officer, my family owns mines. I have enough resources to start a family!"
Josephine said calmly, "Don't you have religious beliefs that don't accept marriages with people of different races?"
Harold immediately replied, "You saved me. You gave me a new life, so you are my faith!"
With a loud bang, the door to the ward flew open, hitting the wall.
Everyone looked towards the door, curious about who was so rough and rude.
Josephine was stunned, hardly believing her eyes. 'Why is Stuart here?' she thought.
Stuart stared at Josephine with bloodshot eyes.
Seeing she was safe, his heart finally settled.
But as soon as he arrived, he heard a man confessing to her.
She really couldn't stay out of trouble; even in such a situation, she was still attracting men!
