Chapter 450 If You Dare to Go Back on Your Word...
Stuart was on the second floor. This spot had the best view, allowing him to capture Laura's public proposal from all angles.
Thunderous applause erupted around them, with many people shouting.
"Say yes!"
"Say yes!"
There were a lot of people, and they were quite synchronized. It was like a celebrity concert.
Stuart, holding his phone, went into a nearby store.
Laura's proposal scene was grand, and many store employees went out to watch the excitement.
People who didn't know might really think a celebrity was out and about.
After all, Laura was bold and beautiful. Steven was also very handsome.
Stuart found a quiet place. Josephine was dissatisfied. "I haven't finished watching, why won't you let me see?"
Stuart said, "What's there to see? Do you think Steven would reject her?"
"But I still want to watch," Josephine said. "You're not letting me see the best part."
Stuart laughed, "Don't worry, Laura hired the best videographer. They captured everything from all angles. You'll be able to watch it however you want later."
"Laura is amazing!" Josephine said. "I didn't expect her to propose! Wait, did you know about this all along?"
Stuart smiled, "Of course, Laura asked for my help, but she told me to keep it a secret, so I didn't tell you."
"No wonder you changed your opinion of her."
Stuart said, "Yes. I do feel a bit sorry for Steven."
"Why would you feel sorry for him? Laura has always been good to him."
Stuart said, "Why wouldn't I feel sorry for him? He was just crying. Crying so miserably."
Josephine burst out laughing, "So that's why you didn't let me watch?"
"Do you want to see?"
"Never mind," Josephine said. "I'm really happy for them."
"I'm happy too," Stuart said. "Josephine, now that they're done, isn't it our turn?"
Josephine didn't expect him to bring the topic to her and was stunned for a moment before saying, "We don't need all that."
"We do," Stuart said. "We never had a proposal, a wedding, or wedding photos. This time, I want to make it up to you."
Josephine didn't want to reject his good intentions and nodded, "Okay, then wait for me to come back."
"Alright, you go ahead and get to work. The sooner you finish, the sooner you can come home."
After hanging up the video call, Stuart walked out and looked down from the second floor.
Steven and Laura were already gone, probably having left after the proposal.
Stuart thought about how Steven couldn't help but cry just now and could understand.
Steven, who was always tough in front of others, was moved to tears by Laura's surprise. It was quite normal.
Just as Stuart was about to leave, his phone rang. It was Jair calling.
He answered.
Jair asked, "Where are you? Why can't I see you?"
Stuart said, "I'm still at the mall. Where did you guys go?"
"Steven said he wanted to celebrate. I'll send you the location, come over."
Stuart quickly arrived at the place and found the private room they had booked.
As soon as he entered, he met Steven's eyes.
Stuart walked in and teased him, "Mr. Bailey, how long have you been crying? Your eyes are so red."
Steven didn't feel embarrassed. Instead, he said, "No worries, but you're the one who should be jealous."
Stuart asked, "Why?"
"Seeing us all together, aren't you envious?"
Stuart couldn't argue with that. He was indeed envious.
Laura said, "Alright, we can't bully Stuart just because Josephine isn't here."
Stuart smiled wryly, "Thank you."
Jair said, "Don't look so pitiful. Josephine will be back soon. Besides, aren't you planning to go over for Josephine's birthday?"
Laura said, "That's the day after tomorrow, right?"
Josephine's real birthday wasn't far off from her previous one.
Stuart nodded, "Yes, the day after tomorrow. We'll leave early and get there just in time to celebrate her birthday."
"I was worried Josephine wouldn't adapt to The Clarence Family, but seeing how well they treat her, I'm really relieved," Laura said.
Claudia also said, "Yes, it's great that her whole family will be there for her birthday."
Stuart kept quiet, though he really wanted to go alone. With Nicole, Gerald, Ulysses, and Jeffery around, it was a big family. He realized he wouldn't even have time for a date with Josephine.
And with little Jeffery around, he probably wouldn't even be able to sleep with Josephine. Just thinking about it gave him a headache.
But what could he do? He couldn't tell the family not to celebrate Josephine's birthday. And Stuart knew that Josephine would love such a surprise. She must have missed her family during this time away.
That night, the only small regret was that Josephine wasn't there. The six of them had a great time chatting. Besides Jair and Steven's couples, the only ones left were the temporarily lonely Stuart and Liam.
Eventually, the conversation turned to Liam.
"At your age, isn't your family urging you?" Steven asked. "You should make a girlfriend."
Liam said, "Don't bring the topic to me. I think being alone is fine."
Stuart glanced at him. He still thought Liam liked Josephine and couldn't let her go, which was why he didn't find a girlfriend.
Jair said, "We're not urging you, just thinking that you should do things appropriate for your age. We're not forcing you to do anything, but at least, you should try. You should still interact with the girls."
Liam said, "I'm so busy with work that I don't even have time to sleep. Where would I get time to interact with the girls?"
"You can't say that," Laura said. "You can totally date a coworker. You can date while working, how great is that?"
Liam shook his head, "I'm not interested in colleagues. I'm busy enough being a doctor myself. I can't imagine dating a colleague."
It was almost ten o'clock when they finally dispersed.
Steven had drunk a lot of alcohol and was clinging to Laura, whining like a child as soon as he got in the car.
It was hard to imagine the cold and calculating Steven at the company acting like a child now.
"Laura, Laura," he hugged Laura, kissing the delicate skin on her neck. "I'm so happy today. This is the best birthday gift I've ever received."
Laura pushed him away, "Calm down, we're in the car. Save it for when we get home."
Steven said, "What's there to be afraid of? The driver can't hear us anyway."
Laura said, "You're getting more shameless. Can I still take back my proposal?"
"It's too late," Steven glared at her. "Laura, if you dare to back out, see how I'll deal with you!"
Laura sighed, "I won't back out, but you won't calm down tonight either. Or can you just hold me and sleep tonight?"
"I don't mind," Steven said. "But my body doesn't seem to listen to me."
