Chapter 22 Heart-Pounding
Seeing Stuart, Robin hung up the phone and asked , "Did anyone say something to Doris?"
Stuart glanced into the distance and casually inquired, "What's up?"
"She just asked me if you have any close friends of the opposite sex."
Stuart asked, "How did you say?"
"I said no, of course," Robin replied. "I know what to say and what not to say."
Stuart nodded and said, "I have something to do. You go back and talk to her first."
"Where are you going?"
Stuart left without looking back.
Robin shook her head, murmuring, "What's so urgent for him again?"
Without much thought, Robin went back, considering Doris who was still inside.
Meanwhile, Stuart wandered around the bar and noticed many men discussing the mysterious beauty.
He also heard that she was aloof and hard to approach.
Stuart quickened his pace. He circled the bar but didn't find Josephine.
He began to doubt if the woman those men were talking about wasn't Josephine.
After a few seconds, he prepared to return to the private room.
However, after a few steps, he turned back, heading to the bar counter, and asked, "Has the girl in the wheelchair left?"
At that moment, Josephine had already left the bar to get some fresh air outside.
Although the bar wasn't too noisy, Josephine couldn't help but take a few deep breaths.
"Hey, beauty, are you waiting for someone?"
Josephine was startled to see several men with sinister smiles approaching her.
In Haustia, all sorts of people could be found in bars.
The situation could only be worse abroad.
And here, her safety couldn't be guaranteed.
Josephine felt her decision to leave the bar was too hasty. She began to regret it.
At least in the bar, her safety could be assured.
The lights outside the bar were dim, and there were no pedestrians passing by.
Josephine estimated the distance between her and the bar, feeling a bit uneasy.
She tried to calm herself down and said, "Yes, I'm waiting for a friend, and he'll be here soon."
"It's so lonely to wait alone. Why don't we keep you company?" a man walked directly behind the wheelchair and reached for the handles.
Josephine swiftly maneuvered the wheelchair, avoiding him.
Stuart heard about the woman in the wheelchair from the bar counter. Even though he couldn't be sure it was Josephine, he still wanted to take a look.
As he stepped out of the bar, he saw several men surrounding a woman in a wheelchair not far away.
It was a place where gun possession was legal, even though Stuart was wealthy and held a high status in Hustalia, he didn't want to get into trouble here.
Moreover, he wasn't sure if the woman was Josephine, but he didn't hesitate at all.
He decided that even if the person wasn't Josephine, he had to go and help the woman at this situation.
He approached. The men noticed him coming, and one of them said fiercely, "Get lost!"
At that moment, Josephine was about to despair. Suddenly, through the gap between the men, she saw Stuart!
She shouted, "Stuart!"
Stuart heard her voice and ran towards her without hesitation.
The men saw someone trying to stop them, so two of them immediately came over, trying to block Stuart.
The rest of the men pushed Josephine, intending to leave.
Without a second thought, Stuart kicked one of them, then another.
Although Stuart was tall, he didn't seem as strong as those men.
Therefore, they thought that Stuart posed no threat to them, but to their surprise, they were all kicked down.
The other men saw this and immediately surrounded Stuart, leaving only one person who pushed Josephine's wheelchair.
"I advise you to mind your own business," one of them said menacingly, "or you'll face the consequences!"
"Let her go!" Stuart's gaze was cold, with hidden concerns.
The leader made a gesture in the direction of the wheelchair, and the person pushing it immediately ran away.
Stuart wanted to chase, but he was entangled by these men.
"Stop!" Josephine shouted in fear. She was afraid that those people would hurt Stuart.
She was also worried that someone might pull out a gun. After all, such news was often seen in Hustalia.
But the man kept pushing her, taking her further away. Josephine didn't care about the pain in her legs and jumped off the wheelchair. The man was obviously surprised that she sould do that. His first reaction was to try to help her. Josephine used her sharp nails to scratch his face.
A few days ago, she attended a banquet with Stuart. Claudia, aware that she hasn't been working lately, purposely applied acrylic nails for her. Those acrylic nails were very sharp. The man's face immediately started bleeding.
At that moment, Stuart saw Josephine fall. He angrily shouted, "Josephine!"
He didn't care about the several people attacking him. He kicked away the nearest man and ran towards Josephine.
Stuart knelt down, picked up Josephine, and asked, "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
Josephine looked at him and saw the other people. She quickly warned, "Be careful!"
Stuart held her and swiftly dodged their attacks, then stood up. The group of people glanced at each other, the leader gestured, then they all turned and ran.
Without analyzing why things turned out so strangely, Stuart lowered his head to check on Josephine. "Are you okay?"
Josephine had just experienced something terrifying, and she was still in shock. She blinked and suddenly hugged Stuart. Her face was buried in his neck, and Stuart felt her tears.
He couldn't help but hold her, clumsily comforting her, "It's okay, don't be afraid."
"Stuart!" A charming voice snapped Josephine back to reality. She looked up and saw Doris running towards them. Josephine wiped her tears and left Stuart's embrace. Stuart didn't say anything and put her back in the wheelchair.
Doris had been waiting in the private room for a long time and didn't see Stuart return, so she came out to find him. Robin couldn't stop her, so he had to bring her out.
Doris held Stuart's hand, looking him up and down, and asked, "What happened? Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
Robin asked in confusion, "What happened? Do you get into a fight?"
He looked at Josephine and said, "Ms. Kalmien, why are you here?" Josephine had just fallen from the wheelchair, and her palms and knees were scraped. She looked at Stuart and said, "Stuart, thank you." Then, she ignored Doris and Robin, and wheeled herself away.
"Where are you going?" She stopped the wheelchair and turned to see Stuart frowning at her.
