Chapter 526 Is There a Thank-You Gift?

The two were chatting when Gerald's phone rang.

He glanced at the caller and said to Kathy, "I'll step out to take this call."

Kathy nodded.

Gerald was gone for about five or six minutes, and when he returned, he didn't look very happy.

Kathy could clearly see that he was upset, so she asked, "What's wrong? Is it something at work?"

Gerald sat down next to her, shook his head, and asked, "Are you hungry? I'll order some food."

Kathy suddenly remembered and quickly said, "You must be hungry too, right? Okay, order a few more dishes, eat more."

She actually felt quite embarrassed. Originally, she had invited Gerald to her home for a meal, which was supposed to be a nice thing.

But it turned out like this.

Gerald made another call to arrange for the food to be delivered.

After hanging up, Kathy asked him, "Are you sure it's nothing? You don't look happy."

Gerald said, "It's nothing, just some trivial work matters. It's after hours now, I don't want to think about it."

Gerald also reminded her to drink water, as the doctor had advised that drinking more water could help with the medication's metabolism.

After about twenty minutes, the food arrived. Kathy was still on an IV drip, making one hand inconvenient, so Gerald offered to feed her.

Kathy quickly said, "I can use my left hand."

"How can you use your left hand?" He set up the small table on the bed. "Be good, listen."

"Really, there's no need."

"There is." Gerald said, "Can you give me a chance to show off? Besides, didn't you feed me when I was in the hospital?"

Kathy had nothing to say.

After a few bites, Kathy asked him, "Aren't you hungry?"

Gerald thought for a moment and said, "I am."

"Then you should eat quickly..." Before she finished her sentence, she saw Gerald put the food he had picked up for her into his own mouth.

It was the same fork.

Kathy's face immediately felt hot.

"Is it inappropriate?" Gerald asked after eating, "Are you disgusted by me?"

"No." Kathy's face was red. "I, I can do it myself."

Gerald picked up more food for her. "Seems like you are disgusted..."

Before he finished his sentence, Kathy lowered her head and took the food from the fork.

Gerald laughed.

Kathy turned her head away after eating, not daring to look at him.

But after that, the two of them started eating, taking turns with each bite.

This really counted as an indirect kiss.

After eating, Gerald cleaned up everything and then sat by the bed, saying to Kathy, "Later, I'll take you directly to my place, okay?"

Kathy said, "I need to go back and get some things."

"I've already had someone prepare the things girls use, and I asked Josephine about the skincare products you use and had them bought. We can go directly."

"My house is so messy, I need to go back and tidy up."

"I'll have someone clean it." Gerald looked at her. "Kathy, there's something I need to tell you."

Seeing him so serious, Kathy got a bit nervous. "What is it?"

"Those two people weren't just simple burglars."

Kathy was stunned. "Huh?"

In her view, she was just unlucky, being single and living alone, and got targeted.

They broke into her house and demanded her valuables, which was clearly a robbery.

"Honestly, I suspected from the beginning. In this society, with this level of security, how could anyone dare to break into a house to rob? After they were taken back and interrogated, they confessed."

Kathy got anxious. "What exactly happened?"

"They were instructed by someone to deliberately harm you."

"What?" Kathy was shocked. "Instructed by someone? Why? I don't have any enemies. The issue with that worker was resolved."

"It's not your fault, it has nothing to do with you." Gerald held her hand. "Kathy, I'm sorry, it was Elara who hired them."

"Elara?" Kathy was even more shocked. "It was her?"

"Yes, although it took some effort to investigate, fortunately, the two people she hired couldn't withstand the pressure and quickly confessed, leading us to Elara."

"But... why would she..."

"According to those two men, Elara intended to fake a robbery but actually humiliate you. She wanted to break us up."

"How could she do such a thing?" Kathy said. "Just because she likes you? But isn't she engaged?"

"Maybe she doesn't want anyone else to have what she can't get. Anyway, don't worry, I'll take care of it. But after this, we'll definitely have a falling out with the West family. Who knows what they might do then? So, you need to stay with me."

Kathy even had the illusion that Gerald was saying all this just to get her to live with him.

But actually, he didn't need to say it; she was willing anyway.

After finishing the IV, Kathy didn't need to stay in the hospital. She could go home and be observed.

If she felt unwell the next day, she could come back for a check-up.

Gerald took her directly to one of his residences.

Of course, he had more than one property.

This place was close to his workplace. Sometimes, if he worked late or had something early the next morning, he would stay here.

So, everything here was well-equipped, and Gerald had also had someone buy the things Kathy needed.

After they got back, Kathy insisted on taking a shower.

But she had a wound on her palm that couldn't get wet. Gerald smiled and said, "Shall I help you shower?"

Kathy ran to the kitchen, easily found some plastic wrap, and wrapped her entire hand, then held it up and said, "I can do it myself."

Although it was a bit inconvenient, she could still take a quick shower.

Gerald looked a bit disappointed. "Alright, I'll be outside. Call me if you need anything."

Kathy took a quick shower. Although those two men hadn't touched her, just thinking about it made her feel disgusted.

Not to mention, there was blood on her clothes at the time. She felt uncomfortable without a shower.

The pajamas Gerald had someone buy were already washed and dried, and they had a faint scent of laundry detergent.

Seeing Kathy come out, Gerald asked her, "Did any water get in?"

Kathy showed him her dry palm. "No, am I impressive?"

"Very impressive." Gerald said, "Sometimes you don't have to be so impressive. After all, I can help you."

"Thank you," Kathy smiled. "There will be opportunities in the future."

Gerald asked her, "Check if anything is missing. I'll have someone send it over."

"Nothing's missing." Kathy said, "But I still need to go back tomorrow. Even if I'm staying with you, I need to bring my things over."

Gerald said, "Then tomorrow I'll have someone clean your place first. Once it's done, I'll go with you to get your things."

Kathy didn't want to go back alone either, so she asked him, "Do you have time?"

"You are in this state, and if I don't have time, can I still call myself a man?"

Kathy lowered her eyes. "Thank you."

"Don't be so polite with me."

"But I still need to thank you."

Gerald smiled. "Is there a thank-you gift?"
