Chapter 241 How Rare
Josephine put her phone away and said, "If you're still unsure, Jeffery will be back in a few days. You can meet him then."
Stuart asked, "Is his name Jeffery?"
"Yeah, pretty common name," Josephine replied. "Thanks for today. I hope you find someone to spend your life with."
With that, Josephine turned and walked away.
Watching her leave, Stuart felt like his heart was being ripped apart.
He clutched his chest, the pain making it hard to breathe.
But who could he blame?
The real culprit was himself.
Even if Robin had interfered, it was his lack of trust in Josephine that gave Robin the chance to badmouth her.
Thinking back, he realized he had shown Josephine no respect at all.
No wonder she always said he needed to learn to respect her first.
After realizing his feelings, Stuart had thought about using forceful means, just like he did five years ago.
But he knew if he did that, Josephine would hate him even more, and they'd never be able to communicate normally again.
He didn't want a puppet.
But today, Josephine said she had a boyfriend and a son named Jeffery.
How was he supposed to deal with that?
Josephine got home, still a bit shaken.
Running into a lunatic just by going out—she decided it would be better to have Otis accompany her in the future.
Before bed, Laura sent her some info about a few kindergartens.
It was clear she had put a lot of effort into comparing them.
Josephine was really touched and called her.
Laura said, "So, what do you think? Which one do you like?"
Josephine replied, "They all look pretty good. Thanks for doing all this research!"
Laura added, "I did it for my godson. But honestly, I can't take all the credit. Steven had someone look into it; he has connections, which saved me a lot of trouble."
Josephine said, "Still, thank you. If it weren't for you, would Steven have helped me with this?"
"Alright, no need for thanks between us," Laura said. "By the way, I have something to tell you. Don't get upset."
Josephine was curious. "What is it?"
Laura responded, "It's about Angela."
Josephine smiled. "Why would I get upset about her?"
"Good," Laura said. "I asked Steven to look into the Campbell Family to see who in their family might be interested in Emily. Turns out, Angela has a pretty good relationship with the Campbell Family."
"It has nothing to do with me," Josephine said. "I've let go of the past. I don't even look at Stuart anymore, so why would I care about her?"
"I'm telling you, women's minds can be strange sometimes," Laura said. "Do you think there's a chance Angela and Emily might team up against you in the future?"
"Stop overthinking." Josephine laughed. "That's impossible."
"Why not?" Laura said. "Angela is no good. From what I can see, she's a cunning bad woman. If she finds out you and Emily don't get along, they might team up."
Josephine said, "With you by my side, what do I have to fear? We'll figure it out when the time comes."
Laura replied, "Right! Show some determination!"
Josephine chuckled. "Alright, I'm heading to bed now."
"Okay, goodnight."
After hanging up with Josephine, Laura gave Steven a playful kick.
Steven quickly grabbed her ankle and pulled her into his arms. "Trying to kick me to death?"
"I was on the phone, but your hands were all over the place!"
"You're just too beautiful," Steven said, kissing her. "I couldn't help myself."
"Get lost!"
As they were flirting, Laura's phone rang again.
She reached for it, but Steven tossed it aside. "Ignore it. We have more important things to do right now."
"You old pervert, all you think about is sex. At your age, you still have no self-control. I think you'll end up exhausting yourself to death in bed."
Laura's mouth was silenced by Steven's kiss.
It wasn't until the next day that she saw the message on her phone.
It was from Stuart.
How rare!
Laura could hardly believe her eyes.
That scoundrel Stuart was humbly inviting her to dinner?
Laura, who loved a good spectacle, couldn't resist.
Stuart coming to her willingly might give her a chance to scold him thoroughly. How could she refuse?
At noon, she arrived at the agreed place and saw the haggard, no longer confident Stuart. Laura smiled with satisfaction. "Mr. Haustia, didn't sleep well last night?"
Stuart pulled out a chair for her, and after she sat down, he poured her some coffee.
After doing all this, he said, "Yes. Not just last night. Ever since Josephine and I separated, I haven't slept well."
"You deserve it," Laura said, feeling pleased. "After all, God sees everything you do. Those who have bullied Josephine will not have a good ending."
"You're right," Stuart said. "God is punishing me."
Laura took a sip of coffee and raised an eyebrow at him. "Did you forget to take your meds before coming out today?"
Stuart knew Laura was commenting on his unusual behavior.
After all, they used to bicker every time they met.
Laura couldn't stand him, and he didn't have a good opinion of her either.
The few times they met, they always ended up arguing. If she weren't a woman, Stuart would have hit her long ago.
But today, he said, "I apologize for what I did in the past. I'm sorry if my words hurt you."
"Oh my God!" Laura exaggeratedly rubbed her ears. "Did I hear that right? What did you say?"
"I said, I apologize." Stuart stood up, bowed to her. "I'm sorry."
"Stuart, are you okay? Are you really Stuart?" Laura questioned.
Stuart pleaded, "I know you have a lot of issues with me. In the future, if there's anything you don't like about me, I'll change."
Laura was shocked. "You don't have a crush on me, do you?"
Stuart didn't find the joke funny.
He looked down at her, his eyes sincere. "I asked you out today to apologize. And also, I want to know more about Josephine."
"I knew it! You have an ulterior motive!" Laura snorted. "Your scheme is exposed!"
Stuart added, "I know I made mistakes and hurt Josephine. But now, I want to make amends. I hope you can help me."
"Help you? Why should I help you?" Laura sneered. "If it weren't for Josephine stopping me, I would have had someone beat you up! Let me tell you straight, give up! Josephine will never forgive you in this lifetime!"
