Chapter 69 Better to Separate

Liam was giving Josephine some reminders when he noticed her gaze shift behind him.

He turned around and immediately frowned. He asked, "What are you doing here?"

Stuart's voice was laced with sarcasm. He retorted, "How could I miss seeing you two so reluctant to part?"

Liam got angry at his sarcastic tone. He said, "You..."

Josephine tugged at him.

Liam took a deep breath and said to Josephine, "Stay in touch."

Saying that, he left.

After Liam walked away, Josephine asked, "Mr. Haustia, do you have any instructions?"

Stuart said, "I was worried about what you might do at the military base, but it turns out you started flirting before even getting there."

Josephine looked at his face, feeling an urge to hit him.

She held back and turned to leave.

However, Stuart grabbed her wrist.

She angrily said, "What do you want?!"

Stuart didn't know what he wanted.

He was supposed to go to Doris's place but ended up at the hospital.

His mind was a mess.

One moment he was worried about Josephine's period and whether she'd be uncomfortable at the military base.

The next moment he was worried about the men at the military base staring at her.

But now, seeing Josephine's angry eyes, Stuart couldn't say anything caring.

Just seeing Liam and Josephine together made him want to kill someone.

Naturally, he said the harshest things he could think of.

He began saying, "Have you even considered my words? You're Mrs. Haustia. Even if you don't care about your reputation, the Haustia family does!"

"Is that why you came?" Josephine mocked. "Stuart, it seems I'm not fit to be Mrs. Haustia. Why don't we just get a divorce?"

Stuart said, "Josephine, you think I won't?"

Josephine said, "Then do it."

"You're trying to provoke me." Stuart laughed angrily. He sneered, "I won't fall for it so easily. You want a divorce? I won't let you have your way! This decision is mine to make!"

"Why don't you divorce me then?" Josephine said, "Is it really just for business cooperation?"

Stuart, embarrassed and angry, said, "I said this is my decision! If you say divorce, should  we divorce? I won't let you and Liam be together. Dream on!"

Josephine calmed down. She remarked, "You know there's nothing between Liam and me. Even if there was, we would've been together long ago. I wouldn't have married you."

Stuart said, "So you finally admit it;  do you regret marrying me? Why didn't you marry him?"

Josephine found Stuart utterly unreasonable.

She glanced at the car; it was almost time. She said, "Stuart, stop it. I'm leaving. Think about our divorce."

Saying that, Josephine shook off his hand, ran to the car, and got in.

Stuart felt his anger burning away his reason.

Divorce?

Josephine mentioned it again.

So, who gave her the courage to talk about divorce under the premise of a family alliance, given her inferior family background, abilities, and conditions?

Josephine received a call from William in the car.

Since her ankle had healed and the cast was removed, and she refused William's dinner invitation, they hadn't been in touch.

Josephine answered the call.

William spoke first, "Josephine?"

Josephine responded, "It's me."

"Long time no talk," William said with a smile in his voice, "It's almost the Starlight Festival year-end, and I've been very busy with things at my company. How have you been?"

Josephine said, "I've been good."

"That's good. By the way, yesterday was Harmony Day, and I didn't get to wish you a Happy Harmony Day New Year."

"Thank you, Happy Harmony Day New Year to you too." Josephine remembered he was also alone and softened her tone. She inquired, "Are you still in Auroravale City?"

"Yes, yesterday was Harmony Day, and I didn't want to bother you. I was wondering if I could have the honor of inviting you to dinner today?"

"Sorry, I don't think I'll have any time soon," Josephine said, "The hospital has an event,; I need to go on a business trip for a while. I'll contact you when I get back."

William was curious. He asked, "Do doctors go on business trips? Where to?"

Although she would have to hand over her phone and couldn't take pictures or disclose any information once she entered the military base, Clement Hospital's cooperation with the military base was reported by local media every year.

It wasn't a secret.

Josephine didn't want to say, but then she thought it wasn't necessary to hide it. She replied, "Our hospital has a collaboration with the military base. I'll be working there for twenty days."

"Military base?" William was surprised. He remarked, "You have to work so long? By the time you get back, it will be the Starlight Festival."

Josephine said, "Yes, so I'll contact you when I return."

"Alright," William didn't ask more, He replied, "I'll wait for you to come back."

After hanging up, Josephine leaned back and closed her eyes to rest.

The military base was not far from the city center, less than an hour's drive.

Someone beside her gently shook her arm and called, "Dr. Kalmien, we're here."

Josephine opened her eyes and saw the lead doctor had already gotten out and was talking to the sentry at the gate.

Soon, the lead doctor returned with a soldier whose sharp eyes scanned everyone to confirm their identities before letting them through.

They were taken directly to the multifunctional hall for an induction meeting to inform them of what they could and couldn't do at the military base.

Then, Josephine saw Jair.

Jair was in casual clothes, looking very heroic.

Men seem to look especially handsome in uniform, and Jair was no exception.

He was tall with deep features, looking exceptionally handsome.

The young nurse next to Josephine couldn't help but exclaim, "So handsome."

Jair walked towards Josephine with firm steps, his back straight, exuding a military demeanor.

"Josephine." Since they were at the military base, Jair addressed her formally, "You're here too."

Josephine stood up and called him, "Mr. Cook? I remember you weren't at this camp."

Jair said, "I've been here for half a year, temporarily reassigned. There will be adjustments after the new year."

Someone passed by and saluted Jair, "Good day, Major."

After the person left, Josephine said, "You're a major here?"

Jair said, "Temporarily. How's Stuart? You two haven't fought, have you?"

Josephine smiled and said, "I don't know how to tell you. If you have time, ask him yourself. Mr. Cook, can I ask you a favor?"

Jair said, "Go ahead, as long as it's something I can do."

Josephine said, "I want to divorce Stuart."

Jair frowned. He seriously remarked, "Josephine, what are you talking about? Although Stuart has his faults, it hasn't reached the point of divorce, has it?"

Josephine said, "His heart belongs to someone else, and we have no feelings for each other. It's better to separate than to suffer."
