Chapter 372 When Did She Ever Save Your Life?
Josephine picked up the phone.
Stuart asked, "Hey, have you been feeling wiped out lately? Make sure you're taking care of yourself."
Josephine replied, "I'm alright. How's Grandpa doing?"
"Everyone's good," Stuart said. "By the way, did The Clarence Family mention anything about you heading back to Celestia Springs?"
Josephine answered honestly, "Yeah, they did."
"I see."
After a brief pause, Stuart spoke again, "Josephine."
"Yeah?" she responded.
"I miss you," Stuart said.
His words struck Josephine's heart like a stone, causing ripples within. She had to admit, Stuart had a way with words. Sometimes, just one sentence from him could really get to her.
Not expecting a reply, Stuart continued, "Take care of yourself. Let me know when you're done with work, okay?"
Josephine said, "You must be busy too. You don't have to bring me food every day."
Stuart replied, "If Nicole brings it, I won't. But if she doesn't, I will. You're swamped right now, you need to keep up your nutrition."
After hanging up, Josephine felt a bit emotional. She wasn't sure what she was thinking about, but it took her a while to fall asleep.
Stuart, on the other hand, didn't plan on sleeping at all. He couldn't sleep well anyway, so he decided to keep working.
Meanwhile, The Lopez Family had already gotten involved in the project Stuart was preparing to enter.
Despite financial struggles, the potential future profits were immense. This project had the potential to elevate The Lopez Family above many affluent households, establishing them as a formidable rising force with enviable financial strength.
But at this moment, Gerald was also keeping an eye on this project. Listening to his subordinates' reports, he asked, "Are you saying that Stuart got The Lopez Family into this project?"
The Lopez Family didn't have the qualifications; it was Stuart who helped them get the opportunity.
His subordinates confirmed this.
Gerald had thoroughly investigated Stuart's past but hesitated to inform Nicole. He feared her sympathy for Josephine might lead to distress.
He didn't expect that even now, when Stuart said he wanted to change and win Josephine back, he was still helping The Lopez Family.
First love, huh? Helping Angela make big money, huh?
Gerald wasn't going to let him get away with it!
When The Lopez Family received the government notice, everyone was shocked. They were informed of their lack of qualifications and failure to meet conditions, with reports highlighting numerous issues. How could this be?
The Lopez Family might be the first confirmed partner to be kicked out! They couldn't afford to lose face like this!
Moreover, it wasn't just about face; the money involved was a huge amount. If there were any problems, their financial chain would break. By then, The Lopez Family would be finished!
Angela's father immediately called her, demanding, "What's going on? Contact Stuart right away!"
Angela was also stunned, "How is this possible? Stuart promised me!"
"How is it not possible? The government notice has already been issued!"
Angela immediately called Stuart, "What's going on with that project? Why are they saying my family isn't qualified?"
Stuart had already gotten wind of the news before The Lopez Family did. He quickly figured out it was Gerald's doing.
Before Angela called, he had just wrapped up a call with Gerald.
He didn't dare to confront him, just asked curiously, "Gerald, is there an issue with The Lopez Family's qualifications?"
To which Gerald responded, "You're not aware of the qualifications problem with The Lopez Family?"
Realizing Gerald's misunderstanding, Stuart clarified, "I can explain. There were a lot of misunderstandings between Josephine and me, and Angela was one of them."
"I don't want to hear that. All I know is that while you claim you're pursuing Josephine, you're giving Angela all sorts of perks. Stuart, I despise you! No daughter of The Clarence Family would accept a man like you!"
"Josephine knows about this."
"Oh, Josephine knows? So you feel emboldened? Taking advantage of Josephine's kindness to do whatever you want? Because Josephine is kind and doesn't hold these things against you, you act without any restraint or bottom line?"
Before Stuart could say anything, Gerald continued, "Josephine may not care, but I do! I won't let Josephine suffer any grievances from now on!"
Stuart explained, "It's not like that. I won't let Josephine suffer either. I owed Angela a favor before and wanted to repay her."
"I don't want to hear that!" Gerald snapped, "As a businessman, it's all about profit. You're honest, repaying Angela's favor. Stuart, be straight with me, is this how you conduct business? If so, your Haustia Family would have gone bankrupt long ago!"
"Angela is different."
"You finally admit she's different?" Gerald sneered, "If she's different, why don't you marry her?"
With that, Gerald hung up the phone.
Not long after, Angela called. Stuart rubbed his temples and answered.
Angela asked directly, "Stuart, what's going on with my family's project? My dad is freaking out!"
Stuart said, "I'm sorry."
"Sorry?" Angela was anxious, "I don't want to hear 'sorry.' I want to know how to fix this!"
"This project can't be salvaged."
"Why?" Angela was almost hysterical, "You promised me. Now this happened, what am I supposed to do?"
"I'll sort this out for you." With that, Stuart hung up.
He texted Josephine, laying it all out, and then dialed Steven.
Steven answered, "Hey, it's rare for you to call me."
Stuart said, "Do you have any suitable projects for The Lopez Family?"
Steven asked, "Which Lopez Family? Don't tell me it's Angela's?"
"It is."
Steven glanced at Laura, got up, and tried to move aside to take the call.
Laura hooked her foot around him, "Sit down!"
She had heard the name Angela and wouldn't let Steven leave.
Steven obediently sat down and put the call on speaker, "What's going on? Why are you still helping her?"
Stuart said, "I owed her a favor before and promised to repay it with that project. Josephine knows. But now, Gerald misunderstood and won't let The Lopez Family participate in that project. I have no choice but to compensate The Lopez Family with something else."
Steven couldn't help but ask, "What kind of favor do you owe her? Did you sleep with her or something?"
Stuart was silent for a few seconds before saying, "She saved my life."
Steven was stunned, "What?"
Laura, next to him, was also stunned. She grabbed the phone, "What's going on? Explain clearly! When did she save your life?"
