Chapter 501 Living Up to Expectations
Gerald said directly, "Mom, don't worry about this anymore. I have no intention of solving my personal issues."
Nicole sighed helplessly, "Alright, I won't bother you anymore."
She said that, but it was just talk.
How could Nicole really not care about him?
It seemed that as people got older, they became more nagging unconsciously.
Nicole was the same; she said she wouldn't care today, but brought it up again tomorrow.
Gerald had a good temper. No matter what Nicole said, he listened with a smile and never argued.
However, he didn't spend much time at home, at most having breakfast before leaving, and usually only coming back for dinner.
So even if Nicole wanted to nag him, she had to see him first.
But with the New Year approaching, no matter how busy he was, his workplace would have a holiday.
Josephine originally planned to find a way for Gerald and Kathy to meet during the New Year holiday.
But unexpectedly, Gerald only had three days off and had to be on duty the rest of the time.
He didn't have to be on duty, but he cared about some young colleagues at work and wanted them to have more rest days, especially those from out of town, so they could have more time to go home.
So every year, after finishing family matters, he would go to work.
Besides, with Josephine accompanying Nicole this year, he felt at ease.
The day before the New Year, the two families had a reunion dinner together.
Stuart's parents also came back. Their project was at a critical stage, so they stayed in Celestia Springs for two days before returning.
They were overjoyed to learn that Josephine was pregnant.
But their project couldn't do without them, so they left early on the second day of the New Year.
There were still quite a few people wanting to visit in Celestia Springs, but with Josephine pregnant and Andrew needing rest, Stuart declined their visits.
But there were still many relatives and friends from the Clarence Family.
After a busy day, Ulysses, as the first grandson, was exhausted.
There was nothing planned for the second day of the New Year, so he arranged to go out with his classmates.
He was about to tell Gerald, so he went into his father's bedroom.
Gerald was taking a shower, and Ulysses lay on his bed playing with his phone.
While playing, he heard Gerald's phone ring.
He didn't want to bother, but the phone kept ringing.
Worried it might be urgent, he picked it up to check.
Gerald's phone had his fingerprint saved, so it unlocked immediately.
Then, Ulysses saw a message from Kathy.
Gerald hadn't saved Kathy's name, but her contact was "Lollipop," which made Ulysses' eyes widen!
That name clearly belonged to a girl!
Although the chat content wasn't explosive, his dad chatting with a girl was unusual!
Respecting his privacy, Ulysses didn't open the chat.
He only saw the last message she sent.
The water stopped, and Ulysses hurriedly put the phone back.
Though he did nothing wrong, he felt guilty.
It was like discovering a huge secret!
When Gerald came out, Ulysses quickly told him about going out with his classmates.
Gerald reminded him to stay safe, and Ulysses left quickly.
Back in his room, he messaged Josephine.
Ulysses: [Aunt Josephine! I discovered a big secret! My dad is chatting with a girl!]
Josephine, still awake, was surprised by the message.
Josephine: [How do you know it's a girl?]
Ulysses replied: [Her name is Lollipop. Could it be a boy?]
'Lollipop? Isn't that Kathy's name?' Josephine thought.
Suddenly, it was like a light shone in, and Josephine quickly typed: [What were they talking about?]
Ulysses replied: [I don't know, I didn't dare to look.]
Josephine wanted to verify something, so she chatted with Ulysses while messaging Kathy.
Josephine: [Kathy, what did you give Gerald for his birthday a few days ago?]
Kathy replied: [A scarf I knitted myself.]
That scarf was from Kathy!
Gerald said they were just friends!
What kind of friend knitted a scarf?
And Gerald was clearly acting strange!
He wouldn't even let Ulysses wear it!
Without confirming with Gerald, Josephine didn't want to say much to Kathy, fearing she'd get her hopes up.
After chatting with Kathy for a while, Josephine messaged Gerald.
Gerald was busy in the study. When he saw his phone, Josephine had sent over ten messages.
He smiled indulgently and replied: [What's up?]
Josephine immediately replied: [Gerald! Lying makes your nose grow!]
Gerald: [When did I lie to you?]
Josephine: [I'm asking you now, answer honestly! Or your nose will grow!]
Gerald: [What do you want to ask?]
Josephine: [Who gave you the scarf?]
Gerald looked at his phone, pinched his brow.
He suddenly wanted to scold Ulysses.
If he hadn't taken the scarf, none of this would have happened.
Now the whole family knew he cherished that scarf.
But actually, he didn't cherish it that much.
He felt he was just respecting Kathy.
After all, it was a gift from her.
But now, how to explain?
Josephine specifically said not to lie.
While Gerald hesitated, Josephine sent another message.
Josephine: [It was from Kathy, right?]
Since she said that, she probably knew something.
Gerald had to reply: [Yes.]
Josephine was thrilled and typed: [Gerald, do you have feelings for Kathy?]
Gerald replied: [No.]
Josephine: [I don't believe you! If you don't like her, why accept her gift?]
Gerald: [She left it at the reception. I had no choice but to take it.]
Josephine: [Strange, many people left gifts at the reception before, why didn't you take those?].
Gerald: [Go to bed early, good night.]
Josephine: [Gerald, I think you're guilty. You must like Kathy a bit, right?]
Gerald didn't reply.
He lay in bed, pinched his nose, and closed his eyes.
Honestly, he hadn't seen Kathy in a long time.
Since her father's matter was resolved, he hadn't seen her.
But somehow, it felt like she was always around.
Maybe because Kathy messaged him every day.
Could it be, he really had different feelings for Kathy?
Kathy was very pretty, seemed to have a good personality, and a great figure.
After a while, Gerald got up silently, went to the bathroom, and took a cold shower.
And, as expected, he caught a cold.
