Chapter 276 Making a Fool of Oneself

Even though Alfonso was single, he'd had his fair share of relationships over the years—at least five or six girlfriends, to be exact.

But honestly, it was always the girls making the first move.

Alfonso came from a wealthy family and was pretty good-looking, so naturally, a lot of girls were into him.

This was the first time he ever took the initiative to show interest in a girl.

Alfonso believed Josephine was his true love, the one fate had in store for him.

So, after coming back from The Clarence family, he decided he was going to win Josephine over.

Confident in his own qualities, he assumed Josephine, being divorced, would be flattered by a high-quality guy like him pursuing her.

Josephine was definitely caught off guard.

She'd always had guys interested in her, especially when she was abroad, where foreigners were super enthusiastic and would confess their feelings right away.

But after coming back home, Josephine's life had calmed down a lot.

Besides, love at first sight was just about being attracted to someone's looks.

Josephine never expected Alfonso to confess his love publicly.

Especially on the street.

Otis glanced at her.

Josephine shook her head at Otis and then said, "Sorry, I'm not looking for a relationship right now."

After saying that, she got into the car.

Otis quickly got into the driver's seat, started the car, and drove off.

Alfonso felt like he'd been slapped in public, feeling a bit embarrassed.

He was always the one being pursued and had never been ignored like this.

Plus, guys had this weird sense of pride.

Listening to the whispers of the people around him, Alfonso felt his face burning, said nothing, and turned to leave, gritting his teeth.

In the car, Otis asked Josephine, "Who was that guy?"

Josephine replied, "The guy Emily is engaged to is related to The Campbell family. He's the eldest son, Alfonso. I met him once at the engagement party."

Otis said, "He sure has guts."

Hearing Otis's comment, Josephine said helplessly, "What a mess!"

Otis laughed. "It's a good thing; it shows you're very attractive."

Josephine replied, "I'd rather not have this kind of attention."

Josephine felt her mind was already a mess, and Alfonso was just adding to the chaos.

The news of Alfonso confessing his love to Josephine on the street spread quickly.

When Stuart found out, he was so mad he wanted to find Alfonso and beat him up.

He had suspected something was off with Alfonso at the engagement party.

Turned out he was after Josephine!

Alfonso's actions didn't escape the attention of The Campbell family, prompting a call instructing him to return home.

Upon his arrival, Alfonso noticed that everyone was present, and his parents appeared displeased, as if they had been waiting for him.

Alfonso took off his coat and walked over. "Mom, Dad, why did you call me back?"

Before they could say anything, Shirley couldn't hold back. "Alfonso! Did you really go after Josephine?"

Alfonso sat down on the sofa and nodded.

"Ridiculous!" Enrique slapped the armrest of the sofa. "Josephine is divorced, and I heard she even had a child with a foreigner. Her personal life is a mess. Is she really the right choice for you?"

Betty chimed in, "Exactly, Alfonso, you're not a kid anymore. How could you make such a decision?"

Shirley was even more furious. "Our family is planning to form an alliance with the Haustia family, but now you're going after Stuart's ex-wife? Alfonso, what are you thinking?"

Alfonso replied, "You marry Stuart, and I'll marry Josephine. There's no conflict."

Hearing Alfonso say this, Enrique was livid. "What nonsense are you spouting? They were once married. Josephine would be Shirley's sister-in-law, and Stuart would be your brother-in-law. Do you want everyone to laugh at our Campbell family?"

The Campbell family valued rules and reputation above all. It was clear they would never accept a divorced Josephine.

Plus, they were planning to marry Shirley to Stuart.

If Josephine also married into their family, what would that make them?

A joke?

All the wealthy families would laugh at them!

Enrique was so angry he clutched his chest, and Betty chimed in, "Stuart is different. He has a high status, and being divorced doesn't matter. But someone like Josephine? I'll never allow her into our Campbell family!"

Alfonso argued, "They're both divorced. Why is Josephine considered inferior to Stuart? I think she's great. Her past doesn't define her. We can have our own children after we marry. Our family can handle an extra child."

Hearing this, they were all furious.

Betty snapped, "No way! If you do something like that again, you can get out of the Campbell family! I can't bear the shame!"

Alfonso sighed. "Mom, Dad, why the strong reaction? If it's about saving face, then let's call off Shirley and Stuart's marriage."

"Alfonso!" Shirley was frantic. "How can Josephine be the same as Stuart? She divorced Stuart and had a child with someone else. How can you want a woman like that?"

"Shirley, go to your room," Alfonso said, "I have something to discuss with Mom and Dad."

Shirley wanted to argue, but Enrique spoke up, "Shirley, be good. Go to your room first."

Shirley stormed off.

Alfonso then took his parents to the study and shared his suspicions.

After he finished speaking, their mouths were agape, unable to close.

Betty was the first to speak, "Is that even possible? You can't just assume she's that girl based on a photo."

Enrique also said, "That's right. There are many people in the world who look alike."

Alfonso said, "I've thought about that too. That's why I wanted to get close to her first. When I get the chance, I'll take her hair and do a DNA test. If she really is The Clarence family's daughter, Mom, Dad, do you think I'd be at a loss?"

Of course not!

Even if Josephine was divorced and had a child, if she was indeed the Clarence family's daughter, it would be a great match for them!

The powerful Clarence family could shake Celestia Springs with a single stomp!

Over the years, the Clarence family had made strides in both politics and business, with a renowned family head.

"But what if she's not?" Betty asked, "What then?"

Alfonso reassured, "It's simple. We'll just claim we're incompatible and end it. I'm a man, after all. How could I lose?"

Betty nodded. "That sounds reasonable!"

Enrique also said, "Then find a chance to get close to her and do the DNA test as soon as possible. But wait, doesn't Josephine have biological parents?"

Alfonso replied, "This is what I can't figure out. This time, when Mom and I went to The Clarence family, I happened to see a photo of Mrs. Clarence when she was young. Josephine looks a lot like her. I'll investigate this further."

Betty suggested, "In that case, let's not rush into Shirley and Stuart's situation."

Alfonso said, "Stuart doesn't seem interested either. We can't let Shirley marry him and suffer."

Enrique nodded. "That's right."

They decided on this and then told Shirley about it, but she didn't agree.
