Chapter 293 Humble

Thinking back, Stuart's schedule was always jam-packed.

He barely spent any time with her.

And as for the time he spent with other women, Josephine didn't even want to go there.

Her expression shifted.

She told Stuart, "Maybe I used to really want you to spend time with me. But now, Stuart, I don't need that anymore."

Time changed a lot of things.

Once hopeful, she now only harbored disappointment as her expectations continued to be shattered.

Josephine didn't want to feel that way again.

Sure, Stuart was interested in her now, but who knew how long that would last?

She doubted Stuart's love, unsure if she could truly capture his heart for eternity.

Moreover, in reality, how many individuals genuinely prioritize love above all else?

On her way back, Josephine noticed the streets were already decked out with streamers.

The Starlight Festival was just a few days away, and the festive vibe was already in the air.

When she stopped at the intersection, she didn't roll down the window, but she could faintly hear the music playing at the entrance of a big mall nearby.

The relentless pace at the research institute didn't slow down for holidays.

Josephine took a day off, and the next day she was even busier.

Claudia couldn't come back for the Starlight Festival; she had a competition abroad.

She called, and after chatting with Josephine for a bit, Josephine asked her, "Have you seen Jair?"

Claudia was puzzled, "Jair? How could I see him when I'm abroad?"

Josephine chuckled, "I must be confused. When can you come back then?"

They chatted for a while longer before hanging up.

Josephine found it strange; didn't Jair say he was going abroad to find Claudia?

Why didn't he go?

Did he change his mind?

Stuart's words last time definitely made Josephine feel better about Jair.

She liked Jair, and if Claudia could really be with him, Josephine would be thrilled.

However, she hesitated to reach out to Stuart now, fearing that doing so might lead to misunderstandings.

As for their relationship, Josephine didn't know how to move forward.

Maybe, when she thought about clarifying things with Roy, her heart had already softened.

But she still had a lot of concerns.

Now, she wasn't the girl who would compromise herself just for love.

She had mastered the art of resilience, releasing expectations, and regardless of her future with Stuart, she was determined to concentrate on her own aspirations.

In matters of love, even when a couple was already united, they must continuously cultivate their individual allure.

She now comprehended that the most fulfilling love involved two individuals evolving and advancing together..

If it was just mutual depletion, no matter how beautiful the relationship, it would eventually be exhausted.

So, she decided to let things with Stuart take their natural course.

She would make herself excellent enough, so that one day, no matter who she chose, she would trust her own judgment.

With Claudia's matter on her mind, she couldn't help but send a message to Jair.

But Jair didn't reply.

Just as Josephine was debating whether to ask Stuart, her phone rang.

She looked down and saw it was a message from Stuart.

Stuart: [Starlight Festival approaching! Jeffery's first celebration here. Mind if I take him shopping?]

Thinking about Jeffery, Josephine couldn't help but recall his complicated background.

One lie always led to another.

She felt a bit of a headache but knew it wasn't the right time to come clean.

She texted Stuart back: [I need to ask Jeffery first.]

Stuart felt a bit anxious when he got her response.

He had met Jeffery a few times, and despite working together on the Robin situation, it wasn't exactly a pleasant experience.

Still, they had gone through some tough times together, right?

But he knew Jeffery didn't like him much.

There was always a hint of hostility in Jeffery's eyes when he looked at him.

Stuart quickly replied: [Want Jeffery to enjoy the Starlight Festival? Let's stage a chance encounter. Worried he'll turn me down.]

Josephine read the message and paused for a moment.

She could sense Stuart's humility and caution between the lines.

He used to be so proud, like nothing in the world could make him bend.

But now, she saw a completely different Stuart.

She was silent for a few seconds, then replied: [Jeffery is not stupid; he's very smart.]

She implied that pretending to run into each other wouldn't fool him.

Stuart replied, sounding a bit down: [If Jeffery says no, does that mean no shopping with you?]

Josephine didn't reply; she went to Jeffery's room and knocked on the door.

"Come in."

She pushed the door open and saw Jeffery reading a children's book in a foreign language.

Jeffery had always been smart, and Josephine had hired different teachers based on his interests.

The teachers had praised Jeffery more than once, even calling him a "genius."

But Josephine didn't feel smug about it; she just wanted to nurture Jeffery's potential.

In her view, kids should live a kid's life.

Childhood should be carefree.

Despite lacking her parents' love during her early years, the care and affection from her grandparents brought her immense joy.

To this day, Josephine was especially grateful to them.

If it weren't for their meticulous care, without her parents' upbringing, she might have turned out to be a different person.

So, no matter how busy Josephine was, she always made time for Jeffery.

She tried to give him as much love as possible.

As for what Jeffery wanted to learn, she let him decide.

"Mommy!"

Seeing Josephine, Jeffery gave a big smile.

Josephine walked over and patted his head, "Jeffery, do you want to go out and buy some things?"

Jeffery asked, "Are you available?"

He knew Josephine was very busy, and if she had time, he hoped she could rest well.

He didn't want Josephine to be too tired.

"Yes." Josephine smiled, "This is your first time celebrating the Starlight Festival here. There are lots of people shopping; I want to take you to see."

"Okay!"

Looking at Jeffery's delicate and beautiful smile, Josephine couldn't help but kiss him.

At home, he didn't wear contact lenses, revealing his bright, sparkling brown eyes that were strikingly beautiful.

Jeffery said, "Then wait for me!"

He ran off to wash his hands and put on his contact lenses.

Josephine felt a bit warm inside, but also a bit heartbroken.

Maybe one day, she could proudly introduce the brown-eyed Jeffery to everyone.

She hoped that day wouldn't be too far away.
