Chapter 101 Giving Gifts

"Noah is shameless!" Lance exclaimed. "He's showing off shamelessly, does he think we're all fools?"

"Yeah, he claims he bought a mansion? Why doesn't he take a look at himself first? Can he really afford a mansion?"

The group discussed Noah, criticizing him. The disdainful gazes on their faces spoke volumes.

"I brought the birth certificates, Noah. We'll go to the civil affairs bureau later to get a divorce," Daniel said coldly. "I don't want you as a useless son-in-law anymore. You embarrass me! I still have some dignity left. Keeping you around will only harm my reputation!"

"Hahaha!"

"He deserves it, what a useless person!"

The crowd burst into laughter.

"Noah, someone’s here to see you," Ethan said, walking in. "He said his name is James."

"James? Let him in," Noah said calmly.

"James? The director of the health bureau, James?"

Everyone in the room was stunned when they heard the name.

"What does James want?"

"It's probably just a coincidence! Why would James bother with someone like Noah?"

Soon, laughter filled the air.

"Haha, congratulations on your move, Lin family. I’ve brought some small gifts!"

Following the laughter, a middle-aged man walked in.

The man was in his forties and held a small box in his hand. His hair was thinning, but his entire presence exuded an aura of authority, the kind that only upper-class individuals possessed.

"It really is James!"

Daniel's face turned pale, and he quickly stood up.

Everyone else stood up too, except for Noah who remained seated.

"James!" Mike called out with a flattering smile on his face, hoping to please James and perhaps gain some advantage in his position in the health system.

"Noah, James is here. Why don't you stand up to greet him?!"

Daniel coldly admonished Noah when he saw him still sitting there. "If you anger James like last time, it won't be good!"

"Oh, everyone, please be seated!"

James waved his hand, gesturing for everyone to sit down. He then respectfully placed the small box on Noah's table and smiled.

"I have a small gift for your housewarming."

Lisa opened the box, revealing a milky-white jade pendant with a delicately carved Buddha statue on it.

The whole piece of jade was translucent, giving off an aura of understated luxury.

"This is jade from Veloria. It was just shipped over by a friend of mine," James said.

"As the saying goes, jade nourishes people and people nourish jade. If you wear this jade pendant, it will definitely bring you good luck."

Noah nodded.

"Thank you, James. Let's sit down and eat!" Noah offered.

"No need to thank me! It's what I should do!" James quickly smiled and took a seat without hesitation.

Suddenly, everyone present realized something.

James had given that loser Noah a gift?

Who was James, anyway? He was often seen on television. He was a prominent figure in Oceanbridge City!

But why would someone like James give a gift to that loser Noah?

"Impossible!"

Mike's pupils shrank, and he felt a surge of shock. "Noah is just a loser. Could James be trying to please him?"

Daniel, Zoe, and others also had shocked expressions on their faces. They couldn't understand why James would give a gift to Noah.

"And it's jade, too!"

Larry glanced at the small box. "That Buddha statue is finely crafted and made with expensive materials. It's worth more than the jade pipe I gave to Dad, and looks like it’s worth hundreds of thousands! How is that loser Noah good enough to receive a gift from James?"

"No, that gift is for Lisa, not for that loser Noah!" Daniel spoke up.

"As the saying goes, men wear watches, and women wear jade. That jade is naturally for Lisa!"

"Yeah, James is giving Lisa a gift!"

"She’s the head of the impoverished area and is helping with its transformation. It's normal for James to send her a gift!"

Everyone agreed one after another.

At this moment, Ethan went inside again and said,

"Noah, someone else is here to give you a gift. His name is Max!"

"Max!"

Larry's face turned pale when he heard the name. He almost fell to the ground.

"Why would Max come to give a gift? He's the real estate tycoon who took over Garrett's position!"

"Why do you look so worried, Larry?" Sarah asked worriedly when she saw Larry's expression change.

"I just didn't expect Max to come back..." Larry wiped the sweat from his forehead.

"Who is Max?" Jake asked curiously.

"Have you heard of the real estate tycoon Garrett, Jake?" Larry asked.

"Of course, I've heard of him. I used to work under him!"

Jake nodded. "Garrett is a leader in the real estate industry, his company Splendid Real Estate Company dominates the real estate industry in Oceanbridge City! He has a high position!"

"Right," Larry nodded. "But a while ago, Garrett suddenly disappeared."

His face was solemn because he had wanted to see Garrett and conspire to take down Lisa the next day, but Garrett had mysteriously disappeared.

Larry still didn't know where Garrett was.

"Disappeared?"

Everyone present had a change in their expressions.

"Yes," Larry said. "After Garrett disappeared, Max took over one-third of the project in the slum area that Garrett had been in charge of. Max's company is expanding rapidly, and he has recruited most of Garrett's workers in the past couple of days!"

"What do you mean? Does that mean that Max will take Garrett's place soon? Will he be another Garrett?" Jake's face changed, surprised by Max's influence.

"Yes, but it won't take long, maybe a month or two, for Max to take Garrett's place," Larry said with a solemn voice.

"Could Max be the person coming here?" Daniel's face also looked unpleasant. He could hardly believe that someone as influential as Max would give gifts to Noah.

"It’s probably just a coincidence," Larry shook his head and said seriously, "Max is the king of real estate. Would he give gifts to someone insignificant? Absolutely not!"

As soon as he finished speaking, a middle-aged man walked in.

The man was wearing a suit, with a big beer belly and a face full of flesh.

It was Max!

"Max!"

Evelyn's eyes were filled with fear when she saw Max.

Max had wanted to ruin her that night, but the owner of the Rolls-Royce had saved her.

'Max let me go that day because of the owner of the Rolls-Royce. Since he did that, he probably won’t do anything to me today, ' Evelyn thought to herself, relieved.

"It's really... really Max!"

Larry's voice trembled in shock. Why would Max come here to give a gift?

Zoe also stared at Max, unable to look away. She was shocked as well. Why would Max come here?
