Chapter 238 Judicial Auction
"Damn it, this bastard is really cunning! He actually tried to escape through the sewer. That place is disgusting and reeks, but he still went down there. If the manhole cover hadn't made a noise and tipped us off, he might've gotten away!"
Jack gave Lucas a kick and laughed, he was thrilled.
First, Lucas held a high position in the gang, way above Jack's own status. Jack never dreamed he'd get the chance to kick someone like him.
But he just did, and it felt great.
Second, capturing Lucas was a huge accomplishment. When the gangs in Oceanbridge City unite, Jack's contribution would surely be recognized, and his future would be bright.
"Nice work," Noah said, glancing at Lucas.
"Thanks, Mr. Anderson, it's my job!" Jack's eyes lit up as he spoke.
"Do you know who I am? How dare you capture me!" Lucas glared at Noah with fury.
Noah ignored him and turned to Ethan. "Can you handle the rest?"
"Of course!" Ethan nodded, taking over Lucas's territory was a small task. If he couldn't manage that, he had no place in the gang.
"Oh, and about Amelia. Offer her a position with a good salary if you can," Noah added. Amelia's father was seriously ill and needed money. She was a college graduate, so she should be able to handle a high-level job in Ethan's business, which would help her out financially.
"Got it," Ethan replied after a brief pause.
"Then I'll be going." Noah walked out of the room.
Watching Noah leave, Ethan and Jack were both stunned. Lucas was subdued, and soon the entire Oceanbridge City gang would be unified. Yet the mastermind behind it all, Noah, was so nonchalant about it.
"Mr. Anderson's calm demeanor is truly admirable," Jack said with genuine respect. "In a world where everyone is chasing fame and fortune, Mr. Anderson accomplishes such a big task and doesn't even care. I really admire that."
Ethan thought to himself that perhaps the small-time gang scene in Oceanbridge City wasn't even worth Noah's attention. The profits were probably too low for him.
Even though Noah didn't care, Ethan felt the weight of responsibility. Taking over Lucas's remaining forces would be challenging, but he couldn't let Noah down. Ethan owed his current position to Noah and was always grateful.
Now, with Jack as a potential rival, Ethan knew he had to prove his value.
Leaving Starry Nights KTV, Noah checked the time. It was almost midnight. He drove home and went to bed.
The next day, Noah slept until noon. When he finally woke up, he saw over a dozen unread voice messages from Isaiah on his phone. He played them.
"Noah, you bastard, you liar!" Isaiah's angry voice came through. "You promised to invest fifty million dollars! Where's your money? You're a shameless fraud. I should never have trusted you! Our family's ruined! The court officials came today to auction off our assets! Evergreen Market is finished. Noah, I hate you!"
By the last message, Isaiah's voice was breaking with tears.
"Judicial auction?" Noah's eyes lit up. He opened the Oceanbridge City judicial auction website and saw the listing for Evergreen Market: [Auctioning Evergreen Market in Oceanbridge City: 115 storefronts, including inventory and facilities. Starting bid: $100 million. Each bid must increase by at least $10 million. Online registration requires a $1 million deposit.]
Noah immediately registered and paid the deposit.
At 3 PM, the auction began. Bids started popping up on the screen.
Kevin bid $110 million.
David bid $120 million.
Elizabeth bid $130 million.
Many wealthy individuals were interested in Evergreen Market, and the price quickly rose to $180 million.
Noah bid $200 million, the auction soon went silent.
In a villa in Oceanbridge City, a man with a gold chain around his neck widened his eyes. "Two hundred million dollars? No way, I'm out!"
In a Maserati in Riverton, a girl with delicate features shook her head. "Two hundred million dollars for a bankrupt supermarket? No thanks. I'd rather invest that money elsewhere."
In Eldoria, a man lounging on a beach with a woman feeding him fruit chuckled. "Two hundred million dollars for a bankrupt supermarket? That's foolish. It would take years to recoup that investment, not to mention the risks."
Similar scenes played out across Eldoria, no one else bid anymore.
"$200 million, going once!"
"$200 million, going twice!"
"$200 million, going three times!"
"Sold! Congratulations, Mr. Anderson!"
Noah's phone buzzed with a message: [Congratulations, Mr. Anderson, on winning the auction for Evergreen Market at $200 million. Please complete the payment within three days at the court, or your deposit will be forfeited.]
Noah smiled and headed to the court.
Meanwhile, at Evergreen Market's headquarters in Oceanbridge City, Isaiah stared at the auction site in disbelief. "Two hundred million dollars? That's so low!"
His father, Timothy, shook his head. "The supermarket's bankrupt. It will take at least another $100 million to get it running again. Even then, it will take two to three years to break even. This guy has some guts to buy it for $200 million. Let's go to the court and finalize the transfer. With that money, we can pay off our debts."
