Chapter 387 Who Gave You the Courage?
The receipt from the card machine confirmed the transaction: $25 million dollars.
"Sir, those two villas are all yours!" The saleswoman handed the card back to Noah, her excitement barely contained. She was thrilled, knowing she'd earn over a million dollars in commission from this sale.
"Twenty-five million dollars? Babe, where'd you get all this cash?" Lisa was stunned. In her mind, Noah had already spent a fortune buying the Summit Retreat Oasis and two Mercedes cars, totaling over $100 million dollars. She couldn't fathom how he still had $25 million dollars to spare.
"That's my little secret," Noah replied with a cheeky grin.
"Did you do something in Silverlight City to get this rich?" Lisa asked, her face full of concern. She worried that Noah might have done something illegal to earn such a large sum so quickly.
"A secret? Noah, can you be serious?" Evelyn scoffed from the side. "Lisa's asking where the money came from, and you just say it's a secret? Are you really going to lie to your wife and pretend to be rich?"
"Evelyn, what do you mean by that?" Lisa was taken aback.
"Let me tell you, Lisa," Evelyn continued, "your husband is working for a billionaire named Bodhi. He's just doing odd jobs for him! Bodhi is the kind of guy who can casually throw around nine billion dollars. Noah's just getting some scraps from him, enough to live comfortably for a lifetime."
"So that twenty-five million dollars is just Bodhi's money," Evelyn concluded.
"Bodhi," Lisa repeated the name, recalling her sister Sarah mentioning it at the Hilton. It was clear now that Bodhi was indeed a wealthy man.
"Honey, is that twenty-five million really from this Bodhi?" Lisa asked, worried. "Is he going to make you do things you don't want to do?"
"No, babe, that money is mine, not Bodhi's," Noah assured her with a smile.
"Noah, even after I exposed you, you're still lying!" Evelyn's expression turned cold. "I can't believe you're so shameless, claiming Bodhi's money as your own!"
"Do you really think that just because you're associated with a billionaire, you're suddenly rich and can act all high and mighty? At the end of the day, you're still a nobody."
"And then what?" Noah shot a sidelong glance at Evelyn.
"And then?" Evelyn sneered. "You're just a lowlife, Noah. Don't think that just because you're hanging around a billionaire, you're suddenly part of the elite and can live in villas."
"Do you know what being part of the elite means? Mr. Harris here is the real deal!" She hooked her arm around Rhett's, her face full of pride.
"He's from the prestigious Harris family in Silverlight City. One day, he'll be in charge of the family, sitting at the top. That's what a real elite looks like, Noah."
"So I hope you stop pretending to be rich and elite in front of your wife, Lisa. She's very naive, and you shouldn't deceive her."
"More importantly, don't you feel ashamed pretending in front of Mr. Harris? Wouldn't it be better to just admit that the twenty-five million dollars is Bodhi's money?"
"Pretending?" Noah shot Evelyn a mocking smile. "And who are you to accuse me of pretending?"
"Even if I'm just hanging around Bodhi, I'm still better off than you, right? Can you come up with twenty-five million dollars?"
Evelyn's face fell. She couldn't come up with that kind of money. Her total savings amounted to about two million dollars.
"If you can't, then what gives you the right to criticize me?" Noah looked at Evelyn like she was clueless. "And as for Rhett being all high and mighty, Rhett, let me ask you, are you a bigger shot than I am?"
Rhett's eyes flickered, and he took a couple of steps back, surprised that the conversation had turned to him.
Although he looked down on Noah, he didn't dare say it to his face. The memory of their last encounter still haunted him. More importantly, the Harris family didn't care about his feud with Noah because Bodhi was backing Noah.
He feared that if he spoke out of turn, Noah would beat him up again, leaving him bloodied. With Evelyn watching, Rhett didn't want to be humiliated.
And he felt Noah was eyeing him with a playful look, as if ready to pounce if he said the wrong thing.
"Noah, you're the big shot here, bigger than I am," Rhett admitted through gritted teeth. It was embarrassing to say, but better than getting beaten up.
Evelyn was dumbfounded. Rhett actually said his status wasn't higher than this nobody's. He was from the Harris family, so why did he think his status was lower than Noah's? Evelyn was shocked and couldn't believe it.
"You do have some self-awareness," Noah remarked, glancing at Rhett.
Rhett opened his mouth but didn't know what to say.
"Now tell me, Evelyn, who gave you the courage to mock me?" Noah sneered at Evelyn.
"I..." Evelyn's face changed, and she was at a loss for words.
When it came to money, Noah could easily produce $25 million dollars, something she couldn't do. And her pride, Rhett, had just admitted that Noah was the big shot. In that moment, Evelyn felt her face burning with embarrassment.
"Honey, let's go check out the houses," Noah said, taking Lisa's soft hand and heading outside. The saleswoman quickly followed.
"Mr. Harris, that Noah is just Bodhi's lackey. Why did you—" Evelyn fumed once Noah was out of earshot. "Mr. Harris, you're from the Harris family, and Noah is just a lowlife! I can't understand why you said that."
Rhett gritted his teeth, feeling humiliated. "Evelyn, you need to understand that a man must know when to bend and when to stand tall! Noah may be a lowlife, but he's strong, with a violent streak. If I said the wrong thing, he'd definitely attack me, and it wouldn't be worth it!"
"But I'll remember this grudge, and I'll get my revenge, without involving the Harris family!"
