Chapter 116 Pursuit
Noah had just left the restaurant when a police car arrived. Several police officers entered the establishment.
It seemed that someone had called the police.
"Noah's coming out!"
Daniel asked, "Did he crawl out or was he carried out?"
"He walked out," Luna said with disdain in her eyes. "I mean, seriously, is Noah really that pathetic in your eyes?"
"Hmph, he has always been pathetic," Daniel snorted. "The kid got lucky and managed to walk out today, but if those people hadn't heard the sirens, he would definitely be in the hospital."
At this moment, Lisa got out of the car and hurried over to Noah, her face filled with worry.
"Honey, are you okay?"
"What could possibly be wrong with me?" Noah waved his hand, acting like nothing happened.
Lisa sighed in relief and the two got back in the car.
"Thank goodness the police came, otherwise it would have really been trouble. There were so many of them, I was afraid you couldn't handle it." Lisa still had a lingering fear.
"They’re no match for me," Noah chuckled, starting the car and preparing to go home.
"Hmph, boastful words," Daniel sneered. "There were seven or eight big men, there was no way you could handle them. Why is there blood on your pants if they weren't a match for you?"
Daniel had keen eyesight. As Noah opened the car door, he noticed a large patch of blood on his pants.
"Ah!" Lisa's face changed. She hadn't noticed the blood before.
"Could your leg be broken? Noah, I'm telling you, if you have to go to the hospital, I won't pay for your medical expenses," Daniel sneered.
"There's a lot of blood!" Lisa face turned pale as she looked at Noah's pants.
"It's not mine." Noah smiled helplessly. The blood had gotten on his pants when Ethan had hugged his legs.
"Really?" Lisa reached out and lifted the pants, finding no wounds on Noah's legs. Finally, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"It’s good that you're not injured!"
Daniel snorted coldly. "Hmph, you're lucky to have survived. Since the police came, you managed to keep your life."
Noah couldn't be bothered with Daniel and drove home.
...
The next morning, Noah woke up and ate the breakfast Lisa had already prepared.
He thought that now that his father-in-law and Luna were living at home, he needed to find a housekeeper or he would be overwhelmed.
He walked to the villa courtyard, where Daniel was watering the flowers.
"It's already ten o'clock but you're just waking up. Your lifestyle is really decadent." Daniel glanced at Noah with a watering can in his hand.
"Luna will probably sleep until noon. I'm going out to buy some furniture and will be back for lunch. Make the food early, got it?"
"I got it," Noah nodded.
Honk honk honk!
At that moment, he heard the sound of a horn.
Noah looked over and saw an electric bike coming towards them, ridden by a young man with a buzz cut. It was Ethan.
His left hand was wrapped in bandages.
"Noah!"
When Ethan saw Noah, he hesitated for a moment, then forced out a smile and called out with an apologetic look on his face.
"That kid looks familiar, do you know him?" Daniel looked at Ethan, then glanced at Noah.
"He's a friend of mine," Noah said casually.
Daniel looked Ethan up and down and finally remembered.
"Wasn't he the one who greeted us at the door when we moved house? Wait a minute, that day he was wearing an Armani shirt and a Longines watch, he looked rich. Why does he look like this today?"
"Look at his clothes, they probably cost not more than two hundred bucks, all from a street stall, and his watch is gone too." Disdain appeared in Daniel's eyes.
"Did he rent the clothes and watch he wore that day? How pretentious! Just as I thought, Noah, he's just like you, always caring about appearances."
Noah couldn't be bothered listening to Daniel's rambling. He walked out of the courtyard and approached Ethan.
"What's wrong?"
"I wanted to report to you, Noah," Ethan said.
"Last night, I went to the hospital to have my wound treated. Then, I sold that A4 because I had just bought it and selling it would only lose me the cost of the sales tax.
"I also sold my watch and clothes. I put all the money, along with the money from the gray area character, into the compensation bank card to make up for it.
"The electric scooter is also secondhand, I just bought it for a few hundred bucks. Don't worry, Noah, it's my own money!
"I came to you to assure you again that the mistakes I made before will never happen again."
After speaking, Ethan scratched his head and smiled innocently.
"Got it." Noah nodded.
"Oh, Noah, I came to see you for one more thing, which is to take you to the slum area and see the compensation settlement work. It's not going as smoothly as I imagined." Ethan added.
"Let's go then."
Noah nodded and got on the back seat of the electric scooter.
"Noah, should someone of your status be riding an electric scooter? It's too cheap!" Ethan's expression changed and he said, "Why don't you drive there?"
"To me, a vehicle is just a means of transportation, whether it's an electric scooter, bicycle, or car," Noah said calmly. "As long as it takes me to the destination, it's fine."
Ethan admired Noah's attitude. Perhaps only someone of Noah's level could say that.
An ordinary person’s perspective on bicycles, electric scooters, and cars would naturally be different.
They took the car and went downhill.
"Hey, Noah, you useless guy, I told you to stay home and make lunch, why did you leave?" Daniel's angry voice came from behind.
...
After about an hour, Noah and Ethan arrived at the slum area.
Compared to before, the slum area had now changed.
Many workers and excavators were operating there. Large trucks were transporting cement and sand in and out, and dust floated in the air, entering Noah's nostrils, making him uncomfortable. The sound of the mixer gave him a feeling of enthusiasm and vitality.
"In the past, this slum area was dirty and chaotic, with sewers and dilapidated houses everywhere. Even clean water supply could not be guaranteed. If a fire or earthquake occurred, not many people would be able to escape the disaster. The renovation project of this slum area is a great project that benefits the people!"
Noah looked at the workers around him and sighed, "I suddenly understand what my father said to me before. The amount of wealth you have is equal to the amount of responsibility you bear.
"A true rich person should not just be concerned with living a good life, buying villas, driving luxury cars, and pursuing beautiful women. You should pursue something else."
Ethan couldn't quite figure out the meaning behind Noah's words, but asked, "Don’t most people want to make money? What else could there be?"
"You could make everyone’s lives a little better."
Noah looked at the workers coming and going in front of him, folded his hands behind his back, and said lightly, "Maybe this is my father's pursuit. I still want to live an ordinary life with my wife. But he planted the seed of this pursuit in my heart."
"Noah, I'm not very well-educated. Could you please stop talking about those big principles?"
Ethan felt frustrated because he couldn't understand the meaning behind Noah's words.
"Huh? I'm sorry, I was just expressing my thoughts."
Noah apologized and touched his nose with a serious look in his eyes.
"Tell me about the trouble you encountered in the resettlement and compensation work."
